Origins of STO and STS as describing terms?

Hi all, was wondering the other day where was the the phrase service to others/service to self was first used/written/seen etc. How/when/where/who/why was it conceptualised?? It crops up in various books and articles that I read and my inquiring mind asked the question.

If I remember correctly, in his book on UFOs and channeling, Don Elkins quotes some earlier "Confederation" sources that use the terms. I think they were used sparingly in the "contactee" literature prior to Ra, but Ra was the first source to really flesh them out.
