Ottawa students stop Ann Coulter speech.

For her speech in Calgary, Authorities beef up security.

She managed to receive a standing ovation from the 800 or so in attendance at the University of Calgary.

She easily found fertile ground, tapping into the western sense of alienation and dread of big government and liberalism.

There's a long history with Canada's prairie provinces not agreeing with the Federal Government, and Coulter had no problem getting their collective ire up with lines like how she's determined to "save the good Canadians" in Calgary and regions west from "crazy liberals,". Too bad she doesn't seem to know the west continues past the Rockies into the province of British Columbia where a different "West Coast" attitude is more tolerant. In fact, she might feel uncomfortable there standing out as a minority in some parts, surrounded by those of Asian or aboriginal heritage.

Earlier in the day, Coulter was interviewed on the political comment ray program Power & Politics.

"It's quite a country you have here," Coulter told Evan Solomon, host of the program on CBC News Network. "I'm more determined than ever to turn pretty much from Calgary through the west into the 51st state now. We got to save the good Canadians."

"Save us from what, Ann?" Solomon asked. "From the crazy liberals. From the crybabies," she answered. "How did Canada go from being the country that sends us all our best comedians to a bunch of whining, crying babies that can't take a joke?"

These words tell a lot. She certainly thinks everything West of Calgary is interested in joining the US. Her geographical knowledge, however, might need refreshing as Calgary sits at the base of the foothills that lead into the Rocky Mountains and British Columbia. So, she may have unintentionally alienated other Western cities like Edmonton, Alberta, which is a mere 3 hours drive east of Calgary. Ah, but I'm just nitpicking.

The statement regarding the bunch of whining, crying babies that can't take a joke reminds me of what bullies would say when they got in trouble for emotional attacks, as if the victim was somehow overly sensitive AND the attack was merely a joke. Blame the victim - it's so in fashion lately with these guys.

I once heard Ann Coulter described as a Christo-fascist, and after reading some her columns, and listening to her caustic venom, I'm inclined to agree.
She invokes "God" at the drop of a hat, assuming that such a being automatically agrees with her because she believes in "Jesus".
She's also a regular in the Fox News parade of "intellectuals" that are trotted out to inform and educate the American public about economics, politics, history, theology, and just about everything else.
Like smug diarrhea, she often erupts uncontrollably, specializing in argument by assertion especially when she knows she'll never be challenged on Fox News.
She tosses out scrapes of red meat that serve to raise the emotions of God-fearing Christian right wingers, the Sarah Palin and Tea Party voters in particular.
Now she wants to expand her influence to Canada.
Fox News is engaged in a race to the bottom because Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, along with Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter and many other well paid operatives are in competition with each other to broadcast the most primal scream in order to inflame their listeners and maintain their ratings.
Once they've killed all their enemies, they'll turn on each other.
That's about the only way I see this ending.
Until then, with the recent supreme court ruling that corporate interests can now fund campaigns with few restrictions, I expect the vitriol to get worse by the day.
