I keep getting the following error when connecting to www.sott.net.

Secure Connection Failed

www.sott.net uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.

(Error code: sec_error_ca_cert_invalid)

* This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.

* If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later.

Or you can add an exception…

If a site uses an encrypted connection by means of https, then there are the following two options avaliable to the site operator: Pay a sum of cash to a "recognized" corporation dealing in certification, which means that for money they hand out shiny "documents" of sorts that are sent to and recognized by the browser upon visiting the site, meaning no warning. Alternatively, they can opt not to pay for the blessings of such a company and make their own certificate.

If the latter, then due to the peculiar convention in place of sites generally deemed "trustworthy" paying for such certificates, browsers such as Firefox opt to display a warning if someone visits a place that self-signed a certificate instead.

However, if you trust a site with unencrypted transfers, there is no reason not to trust it with encrypted ones, the difference being that the latter are far less viable to eavesdrop on. Therefore, in order to "fix" this "issue", just use the option provided in the browser of adding a exception and keeping it, and the "error" will not recur with the site. (or, to always use unencrypted traffic, you can make sure to explicitly access a site such as SOTT with http://sott.net and not https://sott.net)

I fixed that error by going into Firefox and added the exception for all of SOTT sites. I agree 100% the whole thing is a scam.
