Patriotic Retirement Plan

Forwarded exactly as I received:

This is from an article in the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday.

The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the

Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. - Pay them
$1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:
1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!

Oh yeah, count me in.!.!.!

I think, ultimately, the consumer is what "stimulates" any economy...
No Purchases = No Economy
Sadly, anything that is close to common sense just ain't gonna happen...

Might as well go float a boat in the pond... :boat:

Yeah Al!

Count me in too! Then I can move out of...
grow my own tobacco/food... donate to Sott....

Oh never mind, wishfully thinking.

Or was that from Money Fairy, sister of Tooth? :cool2:

Although the patriotic retirement plan won't be realized, it's an interesting way to see the problem our nation faces. Consumer power is down, unemployment is high - it's obvious that you have to give incentives to the consumers to purchase. Furthermore, some realistic retirement plans would help to create some jobs for the younger. It's not easy to set up plans to make this come true, especially since the governement itself has to fight a lot of debt, but we have to act now before it's too late.

Hello, Kenneth6, welcome to the forum.

Seeing as you are new to the forum, we'd appreciate it if you would post a brief intro about yourself in the Newbies section, as is customary for new members. No need to share personal information, just give us a general sense of what led you to this forum, how long you've been reading it and/or the SOTT page, whether or not you've read any of Laura's books yet, etc.

Thanks!

:)

OK so things have moved on since 2009.
Who would have believed the FED would have thrown billions at the banks? Nowadays the above idea seems almost minimalist by comparison with the "aid" being swallowed whole by the financial institutions around the world.
IMHO I have a better idea of good things to do with a million bucks that the banks have with billions.
