I recently watched this 3-part series - Here's a description from Amazon:

After the fall of the Third Reich, the small town of Tannbach is cruelly divided down the middle in the battle between East and West regimes and the town’s inhabitants suffer the consequences. A gripping historical drama exploring the devastating and sobering effects that decades of conflict had on the close-knit German communities after the second world war.

What's interesting is to watch how quickly the communist side devolves, and only manages to survive by getting products via a black market trade with the West - until a firm barrier is established due to the fact that so many people were escaping to the West. Also shocking (or not) to see how easily former Nazi's establish themselves as communist party apparatchiks and how much effort it takes for those who firmly believed in the communist 'better world' narrative to keep their dreams alive in the face of the harsh realities of communist life. Here is the link on Amazon Prime. Apparently there is a 2nd season that isn't on Amazon yet.
