The most comprehensive investigation into sexual abuse of children by the Catholic Church is out. The study _http://www.npr.org/2011/05/18/136436728/catholic-bishops-release-sex-abuse-report, conducted over the course of five years by Karen Terry and others at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York, reached several conclusions about the cause and nature of the sexual abuse by priests.
Most Abusive Priests Weren’t Pedophiles
According to the report, only a tiny percentage of priests who sexually abused children exhibited recognized psychological traits and behaviors consistent with a clinical diagnosis of pedophilia.
Since over 95 percent of the abused children were 11 or older, the report concludes: “It is inaccurate to refer to abusers as 'pedophile priests.'” Had the researchers used a different age criterion for “prepubescent” (the American Psychiatric Association suggests 13), the number of pedophiles would have been higher. Still, the majority of victims were between the ages of 11 and 14, and half of the victims were 13 or older.
1960s Sexual Culture Created Abusers
The researchers were unable to pinpoint a specific genesis of the abuse, and said that the epidemic of child molesting priests was unforeseeable. The report blamed the sexual revolution and the sexually permissive culture of the 1960s and 1970s for the child molestation.
This argument has been made before. In a Dec. 20, 2010, speech, Pope Benedict said that though the church accepted some responsibility for the abuse, the Catholic priests were merely products of a culture steeped in perversion and that their actions must be seen in light of “the context of these times. ... There is a market in child pornography that seems in some way to be considered more and more normal by society.”
Without citing a source for his information, Benedict claimed that as recently as the 1970s, “pedophilia was theorized as something fully in conformity with man and even with children,” and therefore was not necessarily seen as wrong or inappropriate by many priests.
Here is the admission from the mouth of the (self-proclaimed) holiest man on the planet, that the problem has been going on for decades in full conformity with the church's description of the nature of man. I grew up in the 60s and 70s and I never thought the rape of pre-pubescent children a normal human trait.
And for this, John Paul should be beautified?
Again, our justice (sic) system finds ways to place blame directly on the victims rather than calling a spade what it really is.

...Karen Terry, the principal investigator of the study, wants to debunk myths about the reasons behind the crisis. First, she says, "homosexuality is not a cause of this sexual abuse crisis."
...Terence McKiernan calls that the Woodstock defense.
"A lot of us went through the '60s, and very few of us reacted to the pressures of that interesting decade by sexually abusing children," McKiernan says.
McKiernan heads the watchdog group _BishopAccountability.org. He believes the report, which was partly paid for and overseen by the church, is flawed top to bottom. But what gets McKiernan really mad is what principal investigator Terry calls the report's central finding: that this is not a problem of pedophilia.
...The researchers define pedophilia as abuse of anyone 10 or under, and by that definition, only 22 percent of the cases fall in that category. But McKiernan notes that the American Psychiatric Association puts the line at anyone under 14.
"And in fact," McKiernan says, "when you draw the line in the correct place, it turns out that 60 percent of the victims were aged 13 or younger. In other words, 60 percent of the victims were victims of pedophile abuse."
No, homosexuality is not a symptom of psychopathy. However, alot of psychopathic priests enjoy the power they hold over people's beliefs and the power of forgiving sins.
