The Boeing 737 MAX dropped 10,000 feet in seconds.

No word on whether this was the pilot's action or a result of the "impact". Seems unlikely that that pilot, or even the plane, could descend 10k feet in "seconds". So probably didn't happen "in seconds". Flight radar data seems to suggest it descended to 10,000ft over 8-10 minutes.

I’ve been camping in the desert 50 miles west of Moab since Monday the13th. We stay in an area between Moab and Green River. There have been meteor showers over the area this past week. Monday-Tuesday the 20th-21st were predicted to be when you could see meteor showers and two different comets. One to the east and one towards the south. One person in our group saw 6 shooting stars on Sunday. I’ve been looking but haven’t spotted anything.
It does seem like a one in a million hit but it would be interesting get confirmation.

ADDED: Cpt. S. also explains the Boeing 737 misadventure; apparently a close encounter with WindBorne's weather balloon, by the company's own admission.

Another image of the First Officer's window after hitting the WindBorne's weather balloon. The startle factor would have the pilots necessitate an emergency descend even though the 737 MAX did not depressurized. Joe timings mentioned in his post above, seems logical and consistent, bearing in mind that the Salt Lake City airport is at an elevation of about 4200ft.

Shocking video shows the moment two people were killed when their Piper PA-31T1 Cheyenne crashed on take-off from Paramillo Airport in San Cristóbal, the capital of the Táchira state of Venezuela.

In a statement the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) said, "Today Wednesday at 09:52 hrs an aircraft with registration YV1443, taking off from Paramillo Airport, located in the state of Táchira, during the takeoff phase, and fell to the ground. The corresponding protocols and the actions of the Aeronautical Firefighters of the aforementioned airport were immediately activated to attend to the accident. Unfortunately, the two crew members on board were killed. In this sense, the Civil Aviation Accident Investigation Board (JIAAC) was activated, in accordance with the requirements of the Venezuelan State, in order to find the causes of the accident."

A preliminary NTSB report details the tragic North Carolina plane crash that killed Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee Brett James and his family.

Superstar country songwriter Brett James’ single-engine plane went into a “tightening spiral” before it crashed to the ground in North Carolina, killing everyone on board, the NTSB said.

The private Cirrus SR22T plane piloted by James — who wrote such hits as Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take the Wheel” — was approaching Macon County Airport in Franklin on Sept. 18 with his wife and stepdaughter when he “requested a visual approach to runway 7 from air traffic control,” according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

“Shortly after, the pilot transmitted (while still tuned to the controller’s radio frequency) that he was at 6,800 feet and intended to perform a 360 degree turn to land on runway 7,” the report said.

“There were no further transmissions received from the pilot,” the NTSB said.

“Multiple witnesses near the accident site reported observing the airplane flying at a low altitude near the airport and over a nearby school playground. The airplane was described as rocking side-to-side, with its wingtips moving up and down before rolling inverted and descending behind the tree line.”

The plane was just over half a mile from the runway shortly before 3 p.m. when it started its turn and “before entering a tightening spiral and impacting the ground,” the agency said.

The aircraft hit the ground about a quarter-mile from the airfield.

My friend walks her dogs early in the morning and late at night and has randomly seen about 12 shooting stars in a week. The pilots, (three that are friends who are camping here) here are ok with the possibility that what shattered the windshield was a weather balloon. It could be, I suppose, but it was already used as a convenient answer to cover up drones over the US too. Still waiting to know.
