_Plane en route to Tokyo turns around and goes back to LA

Official story is that someone got on the wrong plane, so plane turned around mid-flight to take them back to LA. I'm skeptical. There's a rumor that passengers had to sign a NDA about the event. Must have been a very special passenger to get this kind of nice service. Maybe someone fleeing USA. Were it me, I'd have expected to land in Japan, then wait for a lift to correct destination (as is done with luggage on the wrong plane). Your thoughts?

Is this happened 2 years ago?

"A flight bound for Tokyo's Narita Airport Tuesday made a U-turn back to Los Angeles International Airport after an "unauthorized person" was discovered aboard in an apparent mix-up.

According to LAX Airport Police, officers had a unit and supervisors on scene when the plane, flight ANA 175, arrived back in Los Angeles.

Police said the return of the Tokyo-bound flight was due to a "mix up and was straightened up."

The airline, All Nippon Airways, issued an apology early Wednesday for the inconvenience. They said they were investigating how the passenger boarded the wrong flight.

The statement read: During the flight, the cabin crew became aware that one of the passengers boarded the incorrect flight and notified the pilot. As part of the airline's security procedure, the pilot in command decided to return to the originating airport, where the passenger was disembarked. ANA is researching the situation currently to determine how the passenger boarded the flight. ANA would like to express its apologies to the passengers for the inconvenience. We take great pride providing exemplary customer service, and on this flight we failed to do so.

It's seems weird that for one passenger they turned back.

My bad. I read the date as 7/17. Profound apology. Still a very strange event.
