Precession of the equinox - Sun in the opossite house

Hi everyone.

As i was reading "The Secret Teachings of All Ages" by M. P. Hall, i came across the following:

The important point to be remembered is that when the sun was said to be in a certain
sign of the zodiac, the ancients really meant that the sun occupied the opposite sign and
cast its long ray into the house in which they enthroned it. therefore, when it is said that
the sun is in Taurus, it means (astronomically) that the sun is in the sign opposite to Tau-
rus, which is scorpio. this resulted in two distinct schools of philosophy: one geocentric
and exoteric, the other heliocentric and esoteric. While the ignorant multitudes worshiped
the house of the sun’s refection, which in the case described would be the Bull, the wise
revered the house of the sun’s actual dwelling, which would be the scorpion, or the ser-
pent, the symbol of the concealed spiritual mystery. this sign has three different symbols.
the most common is that of a scorpion, who was called by the ancients the backbiter,
being the symbol of deceit and perversion; the second (and less common) form of the sign
is a Serpent, often used by the ancients to symbolize wisdom.

Has anyone come across from a different source about this particular detail, the fact that there was an esoteric school that named the "ages" with the zodiacal sign opposite to the one that was commonly used?

I also cannot quite understand why with an heliocentric view of the universe, the actual house of the sun would be the opposite one. If the Sun stands in the middle of the "circle" formed by the zodiac, and we see the sun rising in the house of Taurus, that would mean that the house of scorpio is actually the one closer to the earth because the earth would be between the sun and the constellation of scorpio.

It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but i'm probably missing something.

Re your 2nd para - standing on the Sun one would see the Earth "in"or in front of the opposite sign the Sun would be seen in front of on Earth. From what I have read somewhere (memory, memory!), the Sun can represent the Ego and so the Earth-bound self. That may be a link. Help us someone!

No to your question, but I know that the 3rd symbol is an eagle
