In the past, there was talk of predictions about an accident involving the Statue of Liberty, which we could interpret as an attack on the United States, on freedom, and even on peace. On December 15, a replica of the Statue of Liberty fell in Brazil.

It is interesting to note that Latin American geopolitical analysts point out that if Venezuela falls, a domino effect will follow: Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico.

It does seem that the US wants to focus on the Monroe doctrine again instead of trying to keep worldwide dominance. In a sense, this may be better than going to war with China and large countries do have natural spheres of influence close to them - which is not great or 'fair' to their smaller neighbours. But it is very similar to Ukraine being in the natural sphere of influence of Russia.

Though whether South America really qualifies as the natural sphere of influence of the US may be questionable, especially since Brazil is a founding member of the BRICS. Bolsonaro was more open towards cooperation with the US, just like Milei is now (instead of BRICS). So a lot seems to depend on the choices of the largest Latin American countries.

The worst case I see for South America is a large proxy war between the US and the BRICS by pitting Brazil (BRICS) and Argentina (currently pro-US) against each other. Maybe that is why Milei has been spending so much on the military despite a large financial crisis.
