Interesting to know that such creature exist.

Looks like a close relative of the horseshoe crab that was once common in the Gulf of Mexico when I was a kid. We captured many of them.

Funny but somehow it doesn't look like 5 feet long specimen as they claim in the text, actually it looks minuscule if you compare it to the water blobs and specks of dirt around it.
Laura is spot on, if this is not a fake this creature might be related to a horse shoe crab

The story doesn make sense though, if this creature lived in constant dark ( they claim it comes from underground river ) it would look differently - i. e it wouldnt have any pigment like for example Human Fish (literal translation from Yugoslav) or Proteus anginus, cave amphibian endemic to Balkan caves

Well, it is a salt-water critter, not fresh, so that might make a difference.

Triops can get up to 5 inches : http://mytriops.com/articles/triops_species2.stm#tnumidicus

well this definitely looks like triops, apart from the tail ending but it might be two forks joined together in the dry environment.

I think the picture is genuine and the creature on the picture is definitely not longer then 5-6 inches , while the story is bogus and sensationalist claiming the creature attacked them and it was 5 ft long
