I have not seen this movies, well I thinj just spirited away and the howl moving castle, those are like pixar's movies from japan.

But what I found in particular from anime movies, is that some of them have a complex story, in no way for child audience. Like Ghost in the Shell that have complex (at least at first sight) dialogs about conscience, artificial conscience, perception, time, information. I was expecting an action movie like transformers or die hard but when I was reading the subtitles and the kind of, psychedelic scenes, I was like :O ...

After seeing a few more studio Ghibli films, most recently 'Tales from Earthsea' - which is the work of Hayao Miyazaki's son Goro - I am sure that the real genius comes from Hayao. Yes, the animation is always fantastic and the story better than average but something - that feeling that you get which comes from the music and the animation and the characters development - is missing from the films which Hayao didn't work on.
