I hope I am not hijacking this thread... but the thread title seems apt.

It seems that there is no possible way to hide the email address was
was done in the previous forum version. I find that I can gather everyone's
actual email address as it appears in the status bar, as well as placing the
mouse over the email icon itself. Is there any plans to make this information
more anonymous?

Thanks!
Dan

Yeah, Namaste, i regularly scan PC. It's somewhat odd, that these three threads are invisible in the end. May be i should check with my provider, or just wait until these threads resume to load properly. Time will tell, i believe to have patience.

Hello
Yesterday I posted about a problem on the Sarah Palin thread. It was concerning one certain page - the Dominionism one-page thread.
However, I am also having the same problem AS OTHER POSTERS with the pages on some threads stopping before the end, specifically page 5 of the Sarah Palin thread was one of them. I tried 'soft' refresh, but will try 'hard' tomorrow. I'm fried......
BUT:
It is REALLY freaking me that now for 3 DAYS going to the DOMINIONIST page FREEZES my computer (1 1/2 year old Macbook). It sounds like the "fan" is running real fast and hard, and there is no action on my internet-connect (no 'bars'). I close the browser, re-open, and everything goes back to normal.

I SWEAR this ONLY happens on the DOMINIONIST thread page. FOR 3 DAYS NOW. I have done many other tasks both online and offline, and zero problemo.

Ummm, could this be some kinda hyperdimensional hacking, or what? :scared:

To everyone having this problem; thanks for setting my paranoia at rest ;D .

I've 'Sysem Restored' to offload the MS updates, but still the same problem.

As for viruses, I've got Mcafee VirusScan, which seems to be pretty reliable, also Kerio Firewall; if I don't recognise the 'Incoming Alert' I don't allow it. But I don't trust either MS or Yahoo!, and they are the ones I have to allow, otherwise stuff stops working. Might be a good idea to do an 'On-demand Scan' and see what happens.

Sometimes, though, I get a glitch which I leave for one reason or another, and suddenly it works itself out. Maybe this is one of those kinds of glitches!

Again, this only happens on the occasional page, and while it's annoying because I'm missing what these cut-off posts say, there is usually still loads of information in the thread to keep me mulling.

Still the freezing with the DOMINIONIST page. Nothing else does this.

It freezes so even the "refresh" (soft nor hard) does not respond.

I am/have used Firefox for years.

Anyone have ANY idea why this would happen?

I am no expert but have you tried to erase all the temp files, the cookies and see what happen after that.

Whelp! I have had no problem until today. And it wa very minor and only for an instant. BUT it was with the Dominion page.

When I first tried to get the page every post was blank. I went back and keyed it in again and it was all there. But there definitely was a glitch. Seems like something goofy is going on.

That's the only problem I have had to date.

Just a quick update on this problem...

...it seems to be getting worse, with more pages refusing to download completely!

Having remembered this thread:

http://www.cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php?topic=9242.0;topicseen

about Text Size, I did a search and found it was posted by Rabelais (thanks, Rabelais) who had discovered that if one holds down the 'Control' button and runs the mouse wheel over the text it makes the text smaller.

Brilliant! I thought. If I can make the text smaller, maybe the page will fit.

Unfortunately, although it worked fine when I originally read that thread, I have since changed my mouse to one with a red flashy light thingy; i.e. no wheel!

Then I defragmented my disks - nothing changed.

How do I go about deleting unwanted cookies and 'temporary memory files', as Namaste suggested?

This really will be my last resort.

This really will be my last resort.

On the menu at the top of your screen, you have "Tools". Click on that.

After that, choose "Internet Option" and then on the next menu, you should have something that will allow you to suppress the cookies and the internet temporary files.

Hoping it is going to solve our problem.

One more thing you could do - download a free, small program CCleaner, and run it (it takes a few sec only)
every time you have troubles with your browser.

good luck :)

Hi Alice1,

Thanks for your CCleaner suggestion, which I carried out.

Unfortunately, it didn't clear the problem.

So I'm still stuck with certain pages not downloading completely.

I thought I could read the missing posts in the 'Reply' mode, but even there, if the main page hasn't downloaded completely, the 'Reply' mode page is also incomplete.

Most strange.

A common problem is that you may need to "flush the cache".

IE:
1) Tools->Internet Options->Delete Files...->[Chec: Delete all offline content]->OK
2) Tools->Internet Options-<Delete Cookies->OK

FF:
Tools->Clear Private Data...[Check: everything]->Clear Private Data now

hi Dant,

Thanks for your suggestions, but I've already done that and the problem is still there.

I've tried everything. So now I'm waiting for the new SOTT page to come up to see what happens.

(This is not covert criticism of you wonderful SOTT webmasters; I'm not implying that the SOTT web set-up is to blame :) )

Update on this problem.

I've just been given a hint about why this may be happening.

Apparently, Yahoo!, which is my homepage, has been updating. There are still some glitches to iron out, and incomplete page downloads is one of them.

But they are aware of this problem, and are working on it, my informant says.

So now it's a question of waiting to see if it clears up eventually!

I know this is an old thread but I have the same problem. New laptop, all 3 browsers. It happens with a slow dial-up connection. The slower the connection, the more it happens. Sometimes if I refresh the page 1, 2, 3, or more it will load the whole page, sometimes not. I'm going to try not showing avatars for faster loading.
