Prometheus (Ridley Scott's Alien Prequel)

What's interesting is that the old trillionaire that backed the whole operation went intro great lenghts trying to find answers to age old questions (why are we here, who made us, what is our purpose...) externally, it seems that knowledge and wisdom didn't come with age, and of course not with money.

My understanding was that he was there to find the creators - specifically so they could reverse his ageing, if I remember correctly.

That's exactly what a trillionaire would do, osit, "I don't care about why I am here, or any other crap like that, just fix this thing and let me get on wallowing in physicality." Physical immortality is also a good hook to lure in & carrot to keep control of psychopaths.

This was the topic of a comic book I read a long time ago, a very rich guy in the future was pursuing a legend that led to immortality, he found it, but it wasn't what he was expecting to to say the least.

Thanks to the rampant pathology ravaging society, the quality of a lot if not anything that mainstream society produces is pablum. Who needs fiction when you have the realities?

Note: Spoilers in the article linked below.

Here are some comments on the scientific goofs in this movie, which I agree. :)

I know there is a lot of mistakes made in the movie, but I like they way they put the "engineers", as I understand it, they are the nephilim right? because of the oversized structure and the face (nose), reminds me about the eastern island faces and about what the C´s say about them:

November 2, 1994 Frank, Laura and V___

Q: (L) Who carved the stone heads on Easter Island?
A: Lemurian descendants.
Q: (L) The natives say the stones walked into position. Is this true?
A: No.
Q: (L) Well, how?
A: Tonal vibration.
Q: (L) And what did these stones represent?
A: Nephalim.
Q: (L) Is this what the Nephilim looked like?
A: Close.
Q: (L) Does that mean that the Nephilim were present in Lemuria?
A: Close.
Q: (L) Where was Lemuria located?
A: Pacific off South America.

Wait, do you mean the original Terminator movie with Schwarzenegger? It's been a while since I've seen that, but is there some esoteric stuff in it?

Yeah, it was the first one in 1984 with Schwarzenegger but I liked all three. What impressed me was the way the movie was put together. It was like each scene was significant within the greater context of the other scenes. All scenes IMO were significantly inter-connected, maybe similar to a Greek drama or something like that. No wasted scenes and you could see the transformation of the the central character Sarah Conner as the movie progresses as she's 'guided' by the future (or guided by a character from the future) thus allowing for multiple possibilities on the timeline. Also it's about time travel but that still has to do with 'time.' More then that there seems to me to be an intrinsic 'timeless' inter-connection that takes place 'outside of time' between the scenes that make them all relevant to each other as the story grows and evolves. I forget a lot though since I haven't watched it in a long time.

Totally agree. The first Terminator was for that time very impressive. Great acting (even from robotical Schwarzi), exellent storyline, fantastic music...Sci-fi award winner also. I personally find the movie very emotional (especially good combined music with scene. Cameron is really good in that. (Abbys, Avatar,Terminator 2, even in Titanic you can find powerful emotional scenes ).

Just watched this film, for the first time, on DVD the other day, and the first overall impression was that it was rushed somewhat, plus a lot of things doesn't seem to make sense. However, it's good for entertainment. Personally, I would rather have seen this film under James Cameron's direction.

Goddawful! Even the self administered squid Ceasarian lacked credibility!
So by all means go see it. You know...Suture self!! :P

Naahh! It's an Ancient Imperial Rome Military God, standard marble-bright Statue ;)

I've liked the message that whenever you find any "God" playing with the human race, it must be 'Evil' and not with the best intentions for his children.

I've liked also the scene when Teron runs and gets stuck under the falling ship. Meaning: whenever a creature with an inferior intellect looks at any previously unknown 'alien' machine, it freezes, loosing sense of direction. Then the usual 'Alien' coming out thanks to highly strategic experiments done by a race of wishfully-thinking 'creators', you know, it's always a useful reminder for GMO stuff :cool2:

There's really no mistakes made in the movie! As a mummified trillionaire would usually carry after him a lot of idiots, because he's sure to better control them as slaves ...and in fact there it comes a slap in the face in the end, when the Black Captain save the day for the whole Earth.

It wasn't that bad after all, being the worst movie of the Alien Saga

Watched this last night, an excellent example of complete codswallop. It felt like multiple god-awful films were stitched together to make one REALLY god-awful film.

***** spoiler****

I saw the movie today and I was watching my watch waiting for the end, and yawning also. Too bad, Mr. Scott is a strange director, sometimes he does good movies, like the first Alien, Thelma and Louise and Bladerunner, other times he makes really boring movies, like this one. For me it was really boring, a little more and I fall on the ground, asleep. I have difficulty with movies made with a lot of digital. To tell us what? It is always the same story: a team in another planet and one by one they are dying. Like the story of Agatha Christie: Ten Little Indians. Alien also was the same story but well done. But when you have seen Alien you have seen all the rest of movies with the same thematic. The message is almost not important, lost in the middle of the sound, the technology and the monsters... And the end! This little alien, now we know where he comes from

In this movie I found no suspense, something I think it is extremely important in a story. No fear of the strange, no terror of the "prometheus". So in that sense I think this movie is a fiasco.

I saw the movie a while back. I was hoping for a little more. It was interesting, more interesting than a regular 'waste-of-time' movie but as Loreta pointed out, a lot of things plot-wise got lost because of all the CGI, etc.

Also had a lot of cliches and the mistakes they point out are also true. Except for taking off the mask, since it was the hybrid-robot that took his mask off first not AFTER it was made pretty clear that the air is most probably breathable for humans also.

I liked the movie because of messages it showed. I think most people missed the bigger picture because of not getting typical thrill and fill movie like it was in other alien and predator movies but it was going more in thinking direction. The name of the movie is symbolical, Prometheus - the bringer of light, it can be bringing light about roots of other alien movies or it is bringing some truth to the whole humanity but people are to blind to see it. Firstly it says the humans were created by other technologically more advanced specie. Secondly it tears down human egocentric view of some special purpose which is showed in scene where that droid answers those one scientist when he asks what is the purpose that maybe there is no special purpose because he was created to serve humans. Thirdly it shows that that advanced specie is not friendly but acts to humans like they own them and can do whatever they like to them. That is it shows that humans are an experiment. But it seems that most of humanity likes to pay attention to smaller unimportant details and movie mistakes. I like also those alien and predator movies because they show humans are not on the top of chain and that universe is very dark place which I found realistic with it s dark atmosphere. It shows also that one psychopathic corporation runs all politics and that is interested only in power and profit on a universal sphere, good representation of some alternative future. There is also one scene in aliens vs. predatiors where is shown how predators that have reptilian features gave technology to ancient civilizations of South America and in that way created them.
