That time when you have to play a recital at De Doelen in Rotterdam and something is not right with the piano. Who says classical musicians don't have a sense of humor. :) A fantastic way of coping with something that can happen (but mostly doesn't) during a live performance !

That's was very interesting, to see her "sang froid" in a situation so dramatic! Admirable.Surely Chopin would be very proud of her. Thanks to share this Palinurus.

Wonderful performance considering the circumstances. Now that's what you call thinking on your feet. Thank you for sharing.

Ark and I got a real kick out of this! Very talented lady and her musical selections to deal with the problem were inspired!

This is really wonderful and funny! What a great lady! Thank you for sharing. :flowers:

This could have been such a disaster but she was so comfortable with herself and her audience, and adapted calmly to the situation, with amazing piano skills to boot. Just brilliant!

This is one of those priceless moments! She has a terrific sense of humor. A concert within a concert. Thanks for sharing, Palinurus

Thanks for sharing Palinurus. What a talented lady in more ways than one! Great lesson in keeping a sense of humor when we hit a bump in the road! :flowers:

Thanks to all for your spontaneous reactions. I've followed her career ever since I first saw her on TV in 1983 when she became fifth in the Queen Elisabeth piano competition in Brussels with a magnificent Fourth Beethoven concerto (among other things).

Her short bio from her website:

Eliane Rodrigues was born in Rio de Janeiro. The fact that she was a child prodigy was noticeable at a very early age: she started composing at three, played her first recital at five, and performed with an orchestra at the ages of six and seven. From that moment on, she won prizes at numerous regional and national competitions, going on to win the special prize at the Van Cliburn Competition in the USA when she was just 18. She came in fifth place at the 1983 Queen Elisabeth Competition.

Since then, she has performed in major cities, including: Antwerp, Brussels, The Hague, Moscow, New York, Rio de Janeiro, St. Petersburg, Volgograd and Zurich. For over 20 years, she has been invited to De Doelen in Rotterdam to perform a Chopin recital on Boxing Day.

1998 was a critical year for Rodrigues: she was the key figure in the Swiss Música Romântica festival, at which she not only performed solo, but conducted at and composed for as well.

In addition to this, she has been a lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp for over 20 years.

Plus, she's produced over 25 CDs of both live concerts and studio albums. In 2002, she recorded five Sergey Prokofiev concertos on CD, among other accomplishments.

She most recently recorded all eight of Beethoven's piano concertos in St. Petersburg.

That was a great video  and superb improvisation by the pianist! "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade"
