Over the past year and a half I have undergone many drastic changes. Some have been voluntary, some out of necessity (those ones hurt a bit). I'm at ease with the way things are and no longer fighting unessessary wars. I have noticed if I "listen" to the world and my"self," I can generally make good choices & life runs smoothely. My question is: are these intuitions real or programs set to give false encouragement/confidence?

Decisions arising from "intuition" and "programs" have one thing in common -- they sidestep objective reasoning in favour of what "feels right". So how to tell which is which? I'd say by the "fruits" of those decisions -- i.e. have they led to an end result that is truly "best" for all concerned, or just what is "easiest", or "most comfortable" or "emotionally satisfying" for some or all concerned?

As the Cassiopaea Glossary entry for Intuition points out, after what we perceive to be "intuition" departs, it is then "left to the faculties of reason and the senses of observation to determine the truth of it." But if someone has not developed the ability to objectively observe himself and recognize his programs, emotional issues, wishful thinking, subjectivity, etc, it is all to easy to delude himself that he arrived at a decision "intuitively" rather than as a result of mechanical program-related behaviour. And that is where networking with a group like this can make all the difference; often others also involved with the Work can see a situation more objectively than we ourselves can. When doing the Work in isolation, the potential for self-delusion is significant, as we can often convince ourselves that we are seeing ourselves and those around us "objectively", when in fact we may doing so through the subjectivity of our own emotional issues and wishful thinking.

Beyond those general comments, I think you would have to provide the group with an example of a decision you have made and the consequences of that decision, if you wanted more specific feedback.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for the feedback. For example, my intuition was to take a job opportunity in Arizona even though I knew moving my family there from Pennsylvania would be difficult (we drove). It seemed right then and now because everything has worked out. Also, it seems my body tells me when it needs certain nutrients when I start to feel ill. Little and big things like that. It may be common sense to some but to me its a bit amazing. I excercise caution though. Could beginning recapitulation have made me more "aware?"

Hey Bar Kochba,

Were the issues you were going through before you moved resolved before the idea of moving came about?

The idea to move was always there. But, I resolved to clear up those issues before we moved. So I ended up delaying the move by 5 months because of that. I didn't want to start new in a new place with the same old problems. This is why I think things have worked out in a positive manner. I must constantly takd inventory of myself if this is to continue.

Okay, I'll ask a blunt question: How were they "resolved"? Does your "family" still include a drug-addicted wife and mother?

I would not normally "pry" in this manner. However, in view of your previous posts about this issue and difficulty making healthy and objective decisions about your wife's addiction and behaviour, it seems that you are being rather evasive about this detail now. And I can't help but wonder why that is.

:)

In my experience, whenever there is a generous amount of time available in which to think about, plan and carry out a particular action, things tend to work out better, because one often has the flexibility to 'move' within the natural flow of 'things'.

How does it "tell you"? [no need to answer-just think about]. With me, it is simply a desire or a craving for something in a particular food group or a particular food, like liver for iron, stuff like that. But this may not be an optimum state of affairs, since it seems to be more desirable to maintain optimum levels of nutrients and of health, in general, by identifying one's needs and meeting them before the body is forced to 'send a message'.

You mean permanently more "aware?" Could we be so lucky? :)
My experience with recapping is such that this is a variable state of affairs. So many memories, emotions, and beliefs are activated, that any sense of a broadened awareness for me is temporary at best. I still identify on a somewhat regular basis, and this process, by nature, narrows awareness to some extent.

On the other hand, because of the subject matter that you are apparently referring to, it is quite possible that you have freed up some trapped awareness/attention and that this may give other thought/intuitive processes more freedom to make their impressions on you.
Who can say for sure? Not me. :)

My question is: are these intuitions real...

You probably need some kind of objective feedback loop to determine this.I don't know how to decide that.

or programs set to give false encouragement/confidence?

See above.

Are ideas like fish randomly swimming around in the energetic ocean we inhabit? If we incorporate them into our ideation by investing them with our personal attention and emotional energy , either for or against, does that investment in them give them a perennial and recurring presence in our ideation? Should we upgrade our emotional and physical situationist needs, again either for or against, into preferences, as soon as they hie into view, thus hopefully lessening their grip on us? What might be the outcome for us on a personal basis of this strategy?

It's possible. :)

Look up Karma, it's a shorter explanation to that question.

Check out the cass glossary on recapitulation for an idea on that one.

A headache, eventually. :D Welcome to the forum!

Hello Far Away, welcome to the forum.

I'm afraid I'm having difficulty understanding what it is you're trying to communicate in your post. Perhaps you could rephrase it in clearer terms, and explain how it relates to this thread?

Also, seeing as this is your first post on the forum, we would appreciate it if you would post a brief intro about yourself in the Newbies section, telling us how you found this forum, how long you've been reading it and/or the SOTT page, whether or not you've read any of Laura's books yet, etc.

:)

Thank you Gimpy. The first point, I nearly said pint, as these discussions seem to resemble those on subjects gone over in 'setting the world to rights' situations that occur in locals, only on a more informed level, is that of ideas in a random free state, being captured by those elements in a being that attract a particular type of idea to them because of their innate sensibilities, enstructured either through life experience, genealogy, or karma, which can be a tendentious and as yet possibly unproven concept, or a combination of these factors in whole or in part. There is also the concept of projection of ideation by whatever means by those with an agenda, who hope to have the agenda gain wider acceptance. I need hardly remind you of the experimentation allegedly having been undertaken in this area by government agencies.

The second point, on karma, which is a rather all encompassing concept, brings into view the question of whether , taking it as an influencing factor in a given, i.e., 'born with' mentality, incuding genetic predisposition, this would cause a being to tread once again the same ideational course supposedly undertaken in a hypothetical existence, accruing the same cloud of emotionally charged ideas around them to result again in the same life results experienced in a necessarily hypothetical previous existence.

The third point, I think can be tentatively responded to positively. In the contingencies of life, this technique has been useful. It is from a series of aphorisms in 'The Handbook to Higher Consciousness'.

The fourth point...I very rarely get headaches.

Sorry, got timed out on the last reply. Basically, Bar seemed to be trying to decide on a future course of action based on either intuition or a more calculated approach. This brings up a lot of imponderables. Once you start into them, it's like a thicket. I'll go to the newbie section.

You need to re-read his post, as you don't seem to have understood its basic subject. You have instead used it as a jumping-off point for your own little subjective word-salad monologue, the point of which I am still having trouble grasping.

Actually Bar Kochba's post was quite straightforward, and involves issues quite "ponderable" in terms of the ideas and methodology of this forum.

Good idea. See you there.

Actually, judging by the tense shifts in Bar's post, the 'actions' he refers to are all past tense. When he shifts to present tense, he seems to say he's ok with things as they are. His concern(s) seem to be related to finding out the 'source' of his 'intuitions'.

...Or, maybe I'm 'off' a bit tonight. :)

Intuitions. Hmmm... I've found these very useful in interactions with people in everyday transactions. If you have your wits about you, you can pretty much know who you are talking to within a few minutes of meeting them. After that, it's either a pleasure to get along with them, or you can tolerate them, or you make tracks as soon as possible. Have you found this?
