Hi, it has been a while since I have participated on SOTT. I stumbled on this Reuters article, and I am thinking so there she goes again:

Rice believes Chavez is "destroying" Venezuela
Wed Feb 7, 2007 12:16pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Wednesday she believed Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez was destroying his country economically and politically.

Venezuela's Congress on January 31 granted Chavez powers to rule by decree for 18 months as he tries to force through nationalizations key to his self-styled leftist revolution.

"I believe there is an assault on democracy in Venezuela and I believe that there are significant human rights issues in Venezuela," Rice told lawmakers at a congressional hearing. "I do believe that the president of Venezuela is really, really destroying his own country, economically, politically."

Venezuela is the fourth largest oil exporter to the United States and Washington, which has been at odds with Chavez for years, has criticized his plans to nationalize his country's oil and utility assets.

The Venezuelan leader is known for his fiery anti-U.S. rhetoric and is a close ally of Cuban President Fidel Castro.

Despite her comments Rice said she wanted to avoid getting into "a rhetorical contest" with Chavez. She said the United States has traditionally had good relations with Venezuela and would like to have them in the future.

Venezuela has vowed to strip some of the world's biggest oil companies of controlling stakes in oil projects of the country's Orinoco Belt by May 1.

The pledge, which affects firms such as Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Conoco Phillips, Statoil and BP Plc, forms a vital part of the nationalizations at the heart of his revolution in Venezuela.

The White House said that any U.S. firms affected by nationalizations must be compensated fairly.

ps: So as always it is about the oil, and about world dominium of it's resources... so Venezuela wants to manage it's oil, and suddenly they look at it as an enemy of democracy and human rights... sheesh...

Looks like a pure propaganda piece. Rice brings no information to the table, its all "I believe, I believe..." and how about that "I do believe that the president of Venezuela is really, really destroying his own country" ...but then she wants to avoid getting into "a rhetorical contest", yeah right. :/

Sorry, I should have posted the link...

Yes it is propaganda, but I think, this is how they begin to tell people that they are thinking about doing something. After all the allocation for "defense" and international military operations has been greatly increased in this year's budget.

Who knows, maybe it will go nowhere, or maybe they will pull a Noriega like they did in Panama in 1999. I am not peculiarly fond of Chavez, but many people in his country to love him for catering to the poor, allocating state funds for health care and education in empoverished slums and rural areas.

As any one in power I would not put it passed him to use this power for personal gain. The point here is the US government who is protecting the Haliburton's of the world and is run by some of them ie: Chaney, had tried already to bring down a democratically elected goverment (remember the US sponsored coup d'etat several years ago in Venezuela?), and since then the same Venezuelan people brought him (Chavez) back to power by overwhelming majority. Now the Secretary of State Condolizzie Rice is educating everyone in congress and via the press about the "threat" that Chavez is to the USA, via saying, he is bad for his own people. It is even laughable that she is questioning human rights abuse in Venezuela, considering everything Bush's war on terror has done in Guantanamo, Iraq, Afghanistan, and secret prisons in Europe and even in US soil.

That's it. They have been doing it for a while, but now it was her turn. In the end is all about who controls the resources, and exercise world power dominium whatever, no matter country's right to soverignty, self rule, or people's desires for change.

Ta ta everyone.

Alright. a while ago I posted something about Rice not liking Venezuela too much. Now this CNN article doesn't say it. But I have can't help it wonder: now that Venezuela seems to be such a threat to the Bush administration, isn't terribly interesting that now they are inbedding US troops with Colombian army. And they say it is not about the OIL... huh...
