Ron Mueck

While randomly searching the net looking for pics of interesting pieces of art, I came across the work of Ron Mueck. I thought his "sculptures" were amazing and I thought I'd share:

link to a video of his work

Amazing!

I had the chance to see his sculptures live and it is quite impressive.
Incredible way of rendering the skin, hair and faces.

I saw one of the little realistic sculpture of his dad (called dead dad), on a flat bed and it was really emotional.

When you are in front of a giant face, you remember how it was when as a kid you were faced with the huge angry face of your parents or any adult, very humbling.

His works were exhibited at the Saatchi in London and I have never been moved like that by sculptures (if one can called them so). The huge body-less face called 'Mask' was (un)welcoming visitors in the room with its angry stare. Very impressive.

'Dead dad' was probably the most moving sculpture, as it actually represented Mueck's dead dad, but in a tiny version (three feet long). It was lying there in the middle of the room. It was like you just found this little dead creature in the middle of the room. It just makes you realize how tiny we really are in this giant universe, and how mortal as well.

Duane Hanson also uses fiberglass human-like sculptures but Mueck brings it to another level because in some weird way he manages to make you think that his sculptures have a soul.
