I agree that there's a practical angle to truth being presented in things like movies, I don't think they have to, I think that they don't care if something akin to the true nature of reality is revealed to a large audience it will have any impact on any of their plans, and if it does, they will simply ignore it, demonize it or ridicule it. It has happened a lot of times in history.
So I think sometimes it may simply be accidental or irrelevant enough where it will simply remain fiction and it will only inspire those who might recognize the utility of some stories, but those are then neutralized in many other ways.
In terms of truth, if they ever show it to us, I think it always has a purpose, a self serving purpose. And sometimes the purpose isn't to inform us of the truth, sometimes the purpose is to generate anger or disapproval in people of a certain faction or group or someone who they're trying to corral back into the cage.
Best example was a little while ago when they started to "show us the truth" about Saudi Arabia and 9-11, it wasn't to inform the public for the sake of truth, nope, it had some geopolitical and economical reasons to push Saudi Arabia away form Russia and China.
