LIGHTNING: Syria shot down missiles and aircraft of the Israeli air force — source (+VIDEO)
News updated
30.11.2018-0: 35
Syrian air defense forces shot down missiles and, according to unconfirmed reports, an Israeli air force combat aircraft.
A source in the law enforcement agencies of the SAR told the agencies of SANA'a and RIA Novosti.
It should be noted that the Syrian state Agency SANA, citing its military source, reports about the downed enemy targets in the area of the village of al-Kiswa:
"Syrian air defense thwarted aggression, air defense shot down all hostile targets, they were unable to achieve any of the goals."
Apparently it is about missiles or" UAV-kamikaze", not about the plane.

Highly questionable approval of RIA-News reports that the Syrian air defense shot down the plane in the sky over the settlement of al-Kiswa. The fact that the Israeli air force makes no sense to fly into Syria to launch missiles.
Tel Aviv's aggression is almost always carried out from Lebanese airspace, and occasionally from the Mediterranean sea.
Except for unconfirmed reports of Israeli aircraft know exactly what was destroyed by four missiles.
According to reports, the targets were hit by missiles of zrpk "Pantsir".
The attack continues
The Syrian military reports that they are still resisting an enemy attack over Damascus and Quneitra at this time.
Missile defense is now faced with enemy targets in al-Kiswa (northeast of Damascus), al-Dimas (Northwest of Damascus) and in the province of Quneitra.

Militants Deliver 60 Canisters With Highly-Toxic Agent to Idlib - Russian MoD

Terrorists are planning to carry out chemical attacks on a town in Hama and the humanitarian corridor in Idlib, Russian military.

Terrorists from the Hayat Tahrir Ash-Sham group (former Nusra Front*) are planning a new provocation with the use of toxic agents in the Idlib de-escalation zone, the Russian Center for Syrian reconciliation reported on Thursday.

“According to information received by the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation from sources in the Idlib de-escalation zone, the terrorists of the Hayat Tahrir Ash-Sham group are planning to carry out another provocation using toxic agents,” the center said in a statement.

According to the statement, the terrorists have delivered 60 canisters filled with an unidentified highly-toxic chemicals. They are accompanied by Arab-speaking chemical specialists from one of the European countries.

"According to available information, the upcoming provocation with the use of toxic agents will target the Christian-majority town of Maharda in Hama province and the humanitarian corridor near the village of Abu al-Duhur in Idlib province," the statement said.

In September, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has addressed the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York City, warning that Syrian terrorists and their patrons may attempt new provocations using chemical weapons, adding that Russia would consider such efforts this "unacceptable."

"We warn terrorists and their sponsors that new provocations involving chemical weapons are unacceptable," Lavrov declared.

The demilitarized zone in Idlib was established on September 17, when Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed on the issue.

Syrian military says all enemy targets were shot down (photos)

Earlier tonight, the Syrian air defense units confronted a number of hostile missiles over the southwestern countryside of Damascus.

According to a source from the Syrian military, their air defense units managed to shoot down all enemy missiles before they could reach their intended targets in rural Damascus.

In particular, the enemy missiles were targeting the Damascus Governorate town of Al-Kisweh, which has several warehouses and research centers.

A number of missiles were also shot down over the Al-Quneitra Governorate, the source added.

Below are some of the photos of the downed projectiles that targeted the Damascus countryside:

Did Syria Use Its S-300 To Defeat Israel’s Missile Attack? Maybe – Here’s How

On late Thursday night, Israel – without warning or provocation – launched missiles into Syria. According to Syrian military sources, the attack was entirely defeated by Buk-M systems and not Syria’s much newer (and greatly publicized) S-300 systems. However, there are now signs emerging that certain parts of the advanced S-300 system may have been used to repel the attack.

Specifically, hints dropped by sources speaking to Muraselon have said that whilst no S-300 missiles were fired to intercept the Israeli projectiles, S-300 early warning and primary fire control radar units may have been used in detecting, tracking and guiding interception fire.

The Israeli missiles, which were ground-launched instead of air-launched, were in fact detected several minutes earlier than has been the case historically due to presence of advanced Syrian early warning radars atop Tal al-Hara (near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights) which allows for detection and tracking of very small air objects as far away as eastern Israel.

To clarify, the interception missiles fired by Syrian air defense were from the Buk-M system; the use of expensive S-300 missiles to down an artillery launched projectile is wasteful in terms of cost and is also simply unnecessary.

The Syrian military was able to reinstall advanced early warning radars (their type undisclosed) atop Tal al-Hara only in recent months after a major offensive against rebel forces and ISIS which lead to the complete liberation of southwest Syria.

There are suspicions that Russia may have assisted in the re-installation of such radar units atop the strategic mountain. The previous early warning radar system (prior to its decommissioning in 2014) was known as “Center-S”.

Putin: Terrorists' Chemical Attack in Aleppo Must Not Remain Unpunished

The chemical attack launched by terrorists in western Aleppo should not go unpunished, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"In Syria, where militants continue armed attacks on government forces, a November 24 attack on residents of the western part of Aleppo using chemical poisonous substances, presumably chlorine, was a blatant violation of the ceasefire," Putin said, speaking at a BRICS meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit.

According to Putin, dozens of Syrians were injured, including children.

"Such terrorists' crimes should not left unpunished, otherwise they will replicate such antics," said Putin.

Putin's statement was made hours after Russian Center for Syrian reconciliation reported that terrorists from the Hayat Tahrir Ash-Sham group (former Nusra Front*) were planning a new provocation with the use of toxic agents in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

The attack which Putin mentioned occurred on November 24, when terrorist groups located in the Idlib de-escalation zone fired 120-millimeter shells at the north-western districts of Aleppo from the south-eastern part of the demilitarized zone, according to the Russian Defence Ministry's Centre for Syrian Reconciliation.

The shells were filled with poisonous substances, and exploded in the vicinity of Nile Street in the Al-Khalidia neighbourhood.

According to medics, aid had been provided to 73 civilians injured in the attack.

Turkish Chemical Weapons Experts Cooperating with Terrorists to Eliminate Evidence of Aleppo Attack

The sources said that Turkey is trying hard to clean up the area's soil and buildings from any poisonous gas residuals before the arrival of a delegation from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in the region.

Last week, the Al-Nusra terrorists launched a gas attack on Northwestern neighborhoods of Aleppo city, poisoning 107 civilians.

In the meantime, sources close to the militant groups said the recent gas attack on Aleppo by Tahrir Al-Sham Hayat indicates that Turkey cannot at all control the terrorist group.

The Arabic-language Al-Watan newspaper quoted sources close to Nouralddeen al-Zinki terrorist group as saying that Tahrir al-Sham terrorists were responsible for the chlorine gas attack on residential areas in Aleppo.

"The attacks on Aleppo's residential areas were done by rockets and shells that had been chemically armed by White Helmets," the sources said.

The sources noted that Tahrir al-Sham's chemical attacks were launched from the demilitarized zone specified under the Sochi agreement.

The attacks from the demilitarized zone display that Ankara had no control over the terrorist groups operating in zone, and failed to hold up its end of the bargain.

In a relevant development on Sunday, Syrian Foreign Ministry said that the Aleppo chlorine shelling was made possible because Western countries had been supplying weapons to militants so that they staged chemical attacks.

Damascus went on to call on the United Nations to take measures regarding the militants who attacked Aleppo and the states that were supporting them, Sputnik reported.

Syria's comments came after on Saturday, militants based North of Aleppo fired chlorine-loaded shells at the city's al-Khalidiye neighborhood. Militants also shelled the neighborhoods of al-Khalidiye and Al Zahraa as well as the Nile Street, causing at least 65 people to be delivered to hospitals over difficulties with breathing.

Russian diplomat vows terrorist schemes to derail Idlib agreement bound to fail

Plans of terrorists in Syria to undermine cooperation in the Astana format and derail agreements on Idlib are futile, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Friday.

"Despite the efforts made by Turkey as part of the implementation of the Russian-Turkish memorandum of September 17, the situation there [in Idlib] is explosive. Terrorists are doing their best to derail the implementation of measures to delimitate the so-called moderate forces and create a demilitarized zone. The scale of provocations carried out by them is unfortunately growing," she said.

Zakharova reiterated that on November 24 militants of the terrorist group Jabhat al-Nusra (outlawed in Russia) carried out a mortar attack on Aleppo’s residential quarters with shells and chlorine, injuring more than 100 people.

"This work was conducted before to provoke the US-led coalition to carry out massive strikes on the government forces, but now, as we can see, the goal is different: to derail the implementation of the specified Russian-Turkish memorandum and destabilize cooperation in the Astana format, in particular between Russia and Turkey," the diplomat stressed. "Another meeting on Syria in Astana showed that such plans of terrorists are futile."

The international meeting on Syria in Astana ended on Thursday with the adoption of the joint statement of the guarantor states (Russia, Iran and Turkey). In particular, the document confirms the readiness to fully implement the Memorandum on stabilization in Idlib and apply further efforts to launch the Syrian constitutional committee.

Syria Accuses Israel of Supporting Terrorists Following Alleged Air Attack

Earlier, Syrian media reported that the country's air defence forces had downed several "hostile targets" during a suspected Israeli air raid south of Damascus.

The Syrian foreign ministry has sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the president of the UN Security Council containing a blistering criticism of the United States and Israel over their regular aggression inside Syrian territory.

Focusing its attention on Friday's US-led coalition attack on the village of al-Safa, which led to the deaths of over 30 civilians, as well as the Israeli air forces' alleged Thursday strikes, the letter argued that the strikes "clearly reflect the US's disregard for humanitarian values and its confempt for international law."

"The creation of the US coalition is completely contrary to the principles and foundations of international law," the letter, cited by the Ikhbariya TV channel, said. "These repeated attacks continue the episodic aggression against the sovereignty, unity and security of Syrian territory, and their goals are similar to regular Israeli attacks, the last of which was carried out over the al-Kiswah area south of Damascus. This is just another piece of evidence that Israel supports terrorist groups and is trying to prolong the conflict in Syria."

"Syria condemns these crimes and repeated acts of aggression and calls on the UN Security Council to take immediate measures to end and condemn them," the letter stressed.

Earlier, a high ranking Syrian security source told Sputnik that Syrian air defences had downed several aerial targets attacking Syrian territory about 40 km southwest of Damascus on Thursday night. Initial reports suggested that an Israeli warplane had been shot down during the strikes. These were later refuted. The Israeli military denied that one of its planes had been hit, and denied allegations of staging an attack. Eyewitnesses have since published video footage of Syrian anti-aircraft missiles appearing to intercept approaching missiles in the skies outside Damascus.

Military Source Rejects Operating S300 Air Defense System by Syrian Army to Counter Recent Raids

The Arabic-language website of Sputnik quoted the high-ranking sources as reporting that the air defense units intercepted most of the enemy's intruding missiles without using S300 air defense missile system last night.

It went on to say that advanced SAM missiles and other types of high precise air defense weapons were used to intercept the intruding missiles.

The army's air defense units counter a fresh heavy wave of air attacks over Quneitra, Southwestern Damascus and Western Dara'a, intercepting most of the missiles.

On September 17, the Russian Il-20 aircraft with 15 servicemen on board vanished from radar screens near Humeimim Airbase in Syria. According to the Russian ministry of defense, the disappearance coincided with an attack by four Israeli F-16 military jets on Syrian targets in the province of Lattakia.

The defense ministry stressed that the Israeli Air Force used the Russian reconnaissance plane as a cover, thus subjecting it to an attack by the Syrian air defenses, with a Syrian S-200 surface-to-air missile hitting the Russian Il-20 while trying to repel Israeli strikes. Israel, for its part, insisted that Syria was responsible for the downing and that by the time the plane was destroyed, the four F-16 were already on their way home.

US Coalition Strike Kills Over 30 Civilians in Deir ez-Zor - Syrian State Media

Damascus has repeatedly accused the US-led coalition of causing civilian casualties while conducting aerial operations in Syria.

Syrian state television has reported that over 30 civilians had been killed as a result of a US-led coalition airstrike on a village in the Deir ez-Zor province.

CENTCOM has yet to comment on the accusations, while the reported strike comes just two days after Syrian media accused the US-led coalition of killing at least 6 civilians in the town of Hajin in the Deir ez-Zor province.

Over the past several months, the Syrian state media have been accusing the coalition of causing civilian casualties, while conducting aerial operations in the region of Deir ez-Zor.

While neither confirming nor denying information about casualties in its latest airstrikes, the coalition has earlier admitted conducting operations in the area.

The US-led coalition has been conducting its operations in Syria since 2014, without either Damascus' approval or a UN mandate.

Large US military convoy enters Syria amid increased tensions with Turkey over SDF support (video)

A large U.S. military convoy entered Syria this week to deliver weapons and armored vehicles to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

According to reports, the U.S. military was delivering these weapons to the Syrian Democratic Forces’ units that are currently combating the so-called “Islamic State” (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) in the Deir Ezzor province.

The delivery of these weapons to the SDF has been the source of turmoil between Washington and Ankara, as Turkey views the U.S. Coalition’s equipping of the Kurdish forces in Syria as form of support to terrorists.

The Syrian Democratic Forces have been involved in a fierce battle with the Daesh terrorists for several months in the Hajin region of southeast Deir Ezzor.

Daesh has refused to concede their last positions east of the Euphrates; this has forced the SDF to try and eliminate the terrorist group’s pocket, despite the fact they are deeply entrenched near the key town of Hajin.

Turkey sends large military convoy to Hama as Syrian Army builds up forces

Turkey has sent a large military convoy to the northern countryside of the Hama Governorate, opposition activists in nearby Idlib reported via social media on Friday.

According to the reports, the Turkish military convoy consisted of several trucks and heavily armored vehicles.

The Turkish military convoy reportedly made their way to the observation posts in the northern Hama towns of Morek and Sheir Magher.

This move by the Turkish military comes just days after the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) sent a large convoy of reinforcements to the front-lines in the Idlib, Latakia, and Hama provinces.

In particular, the Syrian Arab Army sent the entire 5th Legion to the Idlib-Hama axis, while also deploying several units from the 4th Armored Division, including their elite 42nd Brigade (Ghiath Forces), to northeastern countryside of Latakia.

The Syrian Arab Army is preparing for a new operation near the strategic Abu Dhuhour Airport; this will be their first offensive in southeast Idlib since 2017.

Syrian Army’s 5th Legion heads to battle in Idlib (video)

The entire 5th Legion made their way from southern Syria to the Idlib-Hama axis this week, a military source told Al-Masdar News on Thursday.

According to the military source, the entire 5th Legion received orders on Tuesday from the Syrian Arab Army’s High Command about their redeployment to the Idlib and Hama provinces.

Some of the 5th Legion troops will be carrying out a new operation in the northern countryside of Hama, while their other units will assist the Tiger Forces in their upcoming operation in southeast Idlib.

The 5th Legion was formed shortly after the arrival of the Russian military in 2015; they have been mainly deployed near the Islamic State’s (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) lines.

In the past, they have participated in the offensives in the Palmyra, Al-Sukhneh, Deir Ezzor, Dara’a, and Al-Safa offensives.

Below is a video showing the 5th Legion heading to the battlefront in Idlib:

Syrian military on high alert as Israeli warplanes return to Damascus border

The Syrian military is once again on high alert after Israeli warplanes returned to the Lebanese-Damascus border this evening, a source told Al-Masdar News.

According to the military source, the Israeli warplanes were conducting several flights along Lebanon’s southern and central regions throughout the day before they moved towards the Syrian border.

In particular, the Israeli warplanes were seen flying from the Nabatieh Governorate to the Beqa’a Valley in Lebanon’s eastern region.

The Israeli warplanes typically take this flight path when they launch attacks on Syrian installations inside the Damascus and Homs provinces.

The Israeli warplanes also conducted flights over the large cities of Chouf, Jezzine, and ‘Aley.

Last night, the Syrian military activated their air defenses after a number of enemy projectiles were fired towards the town of Al-Kisweh in southwest Damascus.

The Syrian military said that they managed to shoot down all the enemy projectiles after an hour-long engagement.

Thu Nov 29, 2018 - US Plot to Occupy Strategic Iraq-Syria Corridor Revealed
Farsnews

Hundreds of US-backed militants were sent from al-Tanf region in Southeastern Syria to Western Iraq to take control of the strategic Qa'em-Albu Kamal corridor in Eastern Syria.

The Arabic-language Sham Times reported on Thursday that the US-led coalition has transferred nearly 850 of the 11,000 militia stationed in Southeastern Syria to its military bases in Western Iraq.

It added that members of Ahmed Aboud, Aswad al-Sharqiyeh, Jeish Maqawir al-Thawra and Jeish Syria al-Jadid terrorist groups are stationed in the bordering triangle of Syria, Iraq and Jordan (al-Tanf and the nearby areas), saying that the US has come to believe that since al-Tanf has been surrounded by the Syrian army and its allies, its current plan in the region might prove futile in future.

According to the report, the US wants to implement a new plot in Eastern Syria by transferring the first group of these terrorists to Ein al-Assad base and al-Habaniyeh base in Western Iraq which already host over 7,000 soldiers, including 5,800 Americans and 1,200 other nationalities.

It added that given the fact that the US has at present occupied the Iraqi side of al-Qaem-Albu Kamal corridor, it seems that it is attempting to take full control of the passageway.

According to numerous witness accounts, militants are receiving training at the US military base near the Syrian city of Al-Tanf, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing last Thursday.

Russia is also concerned about the United States’ activities in Syria, the foreign ministry spokeswoman went on to say.

"The so-called US-led coalition has been conducting intensive airstrikes on the outskirts of Hajin, occupied by ISIL, causing numerous civilian deaths," Zakharova stressed, noting that "according to the Syrian media, the coalition has once again used white phosphorus shells".

"By maintaining its illegal military presence in Syria and failing to specify its purpose and provide a timeframe, Washington makes it clear that it is not interested in an early resolution of the crisis in the country," the Russian diplomat stated.

"Three space vehicles launched in the interests of the Russian Defense Ministry by a unit of the Space Army of the Aerospace Force from Plesetsk Cosmodrome with the small-lift launch vehicle Rokot were injected into final orbit and accepted for control by ground facilities of the Titov Main Test and Space Systems Control Center of the Space Army of the Aerospace Force,"

Stable telemetry communication was established with the spacecraft, according to the report. The spaceborn systems of the space vehicles are operating on a routine basis.

"After control over the space vehicles had been assumed, they were numbered ‘Kosmos-2530,’ ‘Kosmos-2531’ and Kosmos-2532," the report says.

The missile was launched at 5:27 Moscow time on November 30. The nosecone (the space tug and the satellites) separated at 5:33 Moscow time. At 7:12 Moscow time three new space vehicles were put into final orbit.

UN General Assembly demands that Israel withdraw from entirety of occupied Syrian Golan

The majority of the UN General Assembly member states reiterated their demand that Israel withdraw from the entirety of the occupied Syrian Golan up to the June 4th 1967 line in compliance with relevant Security Council resolutions.

The Assembly on Friday cast a majority vote in favor of a resolution titled “Syrian Golan,” thereby reemphasizing the principle of the inadmissibility of acquiring lands belonging to others by force as per international law and the UN charter, in addition to reemphasizing that the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.

The Assembly denounced Israel’s non-compliance with Security Council resolution no. 497 issued on 1981, asserting that Israel’s decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction, and administration over the Syrian Golan which was issued on December 14th 1981 is null and void, demanding that Israel revoke this decision.

In a statement after the resolution was adopted, acting charge d’affaires of Syria’s permanent delegation at the UN Munzer Munzer expressed the deepest gratitude and heartfelt gratitude to all the states that voted in favor of the resolution and the other resolutions listed under the “Palestinian Cause” and “Situation in the Middle East” articles.

Munzer said that the fact that most UN member states continue to back these resolutions shows that they are committed to the goals and purposes of the UN Charter, and that they reject foreign occupation and support Syria’s right to reclaim the entirety of its lands that are occupied by Israel.

UN Says Humanitarian Mission Attacked in Syria's Province, Driver Injured

The United Nations in Syria said in a statement that a humanitarian third party mission had been attacked in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province, adding that a driver from a local NGO had been injured in the shooting.

"The United Nations (UN) in Syria strongly condemns yesterday’s attack on a joint humanitarian mission in northeast Syria in the eastern line of Deir-ez-Zor, namely the Shihiel-Busayrah sub-district. A Syrian driver from a local non-governmental organization (NGO) was injured in the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment," the statement read.

The mission’s activities in the area were aimed at assessing in advance distribution of humanitarian aid to internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in the province, the statement added.

"Attacks on humanitarian aid workers are a clear violation of International Humanitarian Law and severely impact the humanitarian community's ability to provide life-saving assistance and services to people in desperate need, including women, children and elderly people who are increasingly vulnerable as hostilities continue," the statement pointed out.

Since 2011, Syria has been suffering from a military conflict exacerbated by the activities of terror groups that brought the country to the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe.

Numerous ceasefire violations by militants reported in two Syrian governorates

Numerous ceasefire violations by militants operating in the Idlib de-escalation zone were reported in Syria’s Latakia and Hama governorates over the past day, chief of the Russian Center for reconciliation of conflicting sides Sergei Solomatin said on Friday.

"Ceasefire violations by illegal armed groups operating in the Idlib de-escalation zone continue. Thus, during the day shelling attacks were reported in the settlement of Beit Ziwan in the Latakia governorate and northwestern suburbs of the settlement of Suran in the Hama governorate," he said.

Apart from that, according to Solomatin, officers of the Russian reconciliation center conducted a humanitarian operation in the settlement of Tell Bisa in the Homs governorate. As many as 450 bags with food products were handed out to civilians.

The Russian reconciliation center continues to fulfill assigned tasks after the completion of the military campaign in Syria. The center’s officers regularly travel around the country's liberated areas to assess the humanitarian situation. The main efforts of the Russian military are now focused on assistance to the refugees returning to their homes.

On December 1, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) uncovered weapons caches during security operations in the recently-liberated areas in southern Syria, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The weapons caches contained four US-made TOW anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), several rounds of the Czechoslovakian-made RPG-75 anti-tank weapon, dozens of Bulgarian-made RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenades, machine guns and more than 100,000 bullets of different calibers.

Most of these weapons were supplied by the US to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in southern Syria between 2014 and 2017 under a “train and equip” program authorized by former U.S. President Barack Obama.

The vast majority of FSA fighters in southern Syria joined the reconciliation process earlier this year and handed over their weapons to the SAA. However, the radical militants who withdrew to the opposition-held part of northern Syria hide loads of weapons in order to use them to carry out terrorist attacks in the future.

Syrian Military Deploys 5th Assault Corps And Republican Guard Troops East Of Idlib (Video)

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) deployed additional units of the 5th Assault Corps and the Republican Guard in several positions around the northern city of Aleppo during the last few days, several Syrian pro-government sources reported on December 1.

A video released by pro-government activists shows a convoy of the SAA consisting of several T-72 battle tanks and BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) heading towards advanced positions west of Aleppo.

A day earlier the elite 4th Division was deployed in several positions between the northwestern Hama countryside and the northern Lattakia countryside. A source in the SAA told SouthFront that the division is currently preparing for a possible operation inside the demilitarized zone around Idlib.

The zone, which was establish as a result of the Russian-Turkish agreement on September 17, witnessed numerous violations during the last two months, including a chemical attack on Aleppo. More than 100 civilians were reportedly injured in the attack.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin had said the chemical attack on Aleppo shouldn’t go unpunished. However, it is not clear yet if Moscow and Damascus are willing to take serious military action.

UN General Assembly Urges Israel to Completely Withdraw From Golan Heights

The vote followed US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley's announcement that Washington plans to reject a UN General Assembly resolution on the Golan Heights region given the document's "anti-Israel bias".

A resolution urging Israel to withdraw from the entirety of the Golan Heights has been adopted by the majority of the countries represented in the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

The Syrian Golan resolution was approved by a vote of 99 in favor, 10 against and 66 abstentions during the UNGA's Friday session.

The document declared that Israel's decision to extend its legislation on the Golan Heights is null and void and that the Jewish state should withdraw from the strategically-important territory.

Munzer, acting charge d'affaires of Syria's permanent delegation to the UN, accused Israel of continuing to occupy "a precious part of our land" as Syrian people there "continue to suffer because of this occupation."

"My country reiterates that Syria's sovereign right over the occupied Syrian Golan up to the June 4th 1967 line is not up for negotiation or relinquishment, nor can it ever be subject to prescription, and that our occupied lands and rights will be fully restored to us and Israel and its settlers must leave our lands "My country reiterates that Syria's sovereign right over the occupied Syrian Golan up to the June 4th 1967 line is not up for negotiation or relinquishment, nor can it ever be subject to prescription, and that our occupied lands and rights will be fully restored to us and Israel and its settlers must leave our lands.

In mid-November, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley signaled Washington's desire to vote against the UNGA resolution, referring to the document's "anti-Israel bias, as well as the militarization of the Syrian Golan border and a worsening humanitarian crisis."

Earlier, the Israeli newspaper Hayom quoted US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman as saying that he believes that Washington could recognize the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights as part of the Jewish state. He added that he expects the Golan Heights to remain under Israeli control "forever", and that he "cannot imagine a situation" in which the area is returned to Syria.

US National Security Advisor John Bolton, for his part, said that the Trump administration was not discussing any possible recognition of Israel's annexation of the Golan Heights.

Israel has intensified arrests in occupied Golan after its plans to hold municipal elections in the region failed.

Syria's state TV reported on Friday that Israeli officials have arrested a number of residents of the occupied Golan and refrained from releasing them.

Meantime, field sources in occupied Golan reported that the Israeli officials detained a number of residents of the region in the village of Majdal al-Shams.

They added that after two weeks of failure in judaizing the occupied Golan through holding municipal council elections, Israel has widened civilians arrests in the region.

Israel failed to hold elections in occupied Golan on September 30 after the residents of the villages of Majdal al-Shams, Boqatha, Mas'adah and Ein Qaniya in the region refrained from participation and held protest rallies.

Early last month, a number of Syrian protesters were arrested in the occupied Golan region, following a wide-scale demonstration against the Israeli municipal elections.

Several Syrians were arrested by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) inside the Golan town of Majdal Shams.

The arrests reportedly took place after protesters from the nearby towns of Baqa’atha and Ma’sdah joined the demonstration in Majdal Shams.

30 November، 2018 - Munzer: Syria’s sovereign right over occupied Syrian Golan not up for negotiation, relinquishment, or prescription

Munzer-Munzer.jpg

Acting charge d’affaires of Syria’s permanent delegation at the UN Munzer said that Syria’s sovereign right over the occupied Syrian Golan is not up for negotiation or relinquishment, nor can it ever be subject to prescription.

During a UN General Assembly session on the situation in the Middle East held on Friday, Munzer said that any measures taken by Israeli occupation to impose its laws and administration over Al Quds (Jerusalem) and the occupied Syrian Golan are completely illegal and are null and void.

Munzer said that Israel is still occupying the Syrian Golan and persecuting its Syrian people, and the occupation has always been trying to change the Golan’s legal and political status using methodical violations of human rights, from its attempts to force the Israeli nationality on the Syrians in Golan, up to its decision to hold the farcical “local councils” elections which the people of Golan have thwarted.

He stressed that Israel continues to seize lands and expand settlements in the occupied Golan, stealing its resources, altering its history, stealing its archeological artifacts, planting landmines in it.

He went on to note that Israel also preventing the people of the occupied Golan from contacting their relatives in the motherland, from studying Syrian curricula, from having Syrian identities, and from building hospitals in their occupied towns, and all of this is accompanied by policies of terrorism, oppression, racism, and arbitrary detainment against Syrians.

Munzer pointed out to the case of Sedqi al-Maqet, who after spending 27 years in Israeli jails was arrested again in 2015 and sentenced to 14 years in prison for documenting Israel’s cooperation with Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization.

My country reiterates Syria’s sovereign right over the occupied Syrian Golan up to the June 4th 1967 line is not up for negotiation or relinquishment, nor can it ever be subject to prescription, and that our occupied lands and rights will be fully restored to us and Israel and its settlers must leave our lands in the Golan sooner or later,” he said.

Munzer also addressed Israel’s recurring transgressions and attacks on Syria, the most recent of which took place on the evening on November 29th in al-Kisweh area south of Damascus.

He affirmed Syria’s permanent and principled position in support of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, establishing an independent state with Al Quds as its capital, and guaranteeing the right of return.

Munzer concluded by calling on all states to vote in favor of the resolution titled “Syrian Golan” and all resolutions pertaining to Palestine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday he should hold another summit to discuss the situation in Syria’s Idlib province where the two countries are trying to create a sustainable demilitarized zone.

Erdogan made the suggestion during a meeting with Putin on the sidelines of the G20 summit.

The Syrian government’s ally Russia, and Turkey agreed in September to create a demilitarized zone around the insurgent-held northwestern enclave of Idlib. But exchanges of shelling have been common since then and the first air strikes since the deal hit the area on Nov. 25.

The Turkish army sent a long military convoy, accompanied by 5 military vehicles of the terrorists of the National Liberation Front, to Syria.

The convoy included 12 military vehicles, including personnel carrier vehicles and also logistical equipment.

The convoy was dispatched to 2 Ankara-run observation posts in the town of Morek and in the village of Shirmaqar in Northern and Northwestern Hama.

The Turkish convoy's arrived in Hama as the Syrian army is readying to conduct a large-scale operation in the Northern and Northwestern parts of the country after Ankara failed to expel the terrorists from the demilitarized zone mentioned in Sochi Agreement.

The Syrian Army has dispatched a large number of forces and a large volume of military hardware to contact lines with the terrorists in Idlib, Hama and Lattakia provinces.

Sat Dec 01, 2018 - Russia continues communication with US, European forces in Syria
https://www.almasdarnews.com/articl...mmunication-with-us-european-forces-in-syria/

Russia’s Defense Ministry continues interaction with European countries and the United States on the issues of mutual practical interest, including on Syria, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Colonel-General Alexander Fomin said on Friday.

“An active dialogue is underway on the Syrian issues, the prevention of incidents in the course of military activity, on the problems of regional and international security and on military memorial work. Planned measures are held within the framework of implementing international arms control agreements,” the Russian general said.

Also, “amid certain degradation of military ties in Europe, agreements on military cooperation have been signed over the past three years with 20 countries of the Middle East, Africa, the Asia-Pacific region and Latin America,” Fomin noted.

“As of today, we have legally binding documents with 75 countries of the world, which provides for a possibility of promoting Russia’s interests in the regions,” the deputy defense minister said.

“Interaction is underway on a broad range of issues, from holding joint combat training measures, personnel training and staff negotiations to exchanging delegations,” the Russian general said.

Work on Syrian constitutional committee continues — Putin

The work on forming the Syrian constitutional committee continues, despite it being difficult and requiring constant consultations, Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters during the press conference on the outcomes of the G20 summit.

"As for Turkey, we use every opportunity to meet and to talk, including to regulate the situation in Syria, that is, to form a constitutional committee. The work is very delicate and requires great patience. This is difficult, multidirectional work, but it is moving along. This requires constant consultations," said Putin.

He stressed that the position of Damascus must be included in this work.

Putin said he hopes that the Idlib demilitarized zone will be established in the nearest future. "We are concerned over the situation in Idlib, we see that our Turkish partners cannot achieve some things, but they are working, it is true. We see that they are working on the creation of a demilitarized zone, but we hope that our special services and the Ministry of Defense will resolve this issue in the nearest future," the Russian leader said.

On September 17, 2018, Russian and Turkish presidents agreed to create a demilitarized zone in Syria’s Idlib along the line of contact between the Syrian government forces and the armed opposition.

Russia, Turkey Agree to Continue Joint Work on Idlib Memorandum Implementation

The Russian and Turkish delegations to the G20 summit in Buenos Aires agreed to continue the joint work aimed at implementation of the memorandum on the situation in the rebel-held Syrian province of Idlib, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told reporters.

Earlier in the day, Cavusoglu met Russian President Vladimir Putin on sidelines of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires.

"We discussed many issues, energy issues, trade, some other issues as well cultural issues. And we also discussed the Idlib issue and, in general, Syria. We should continue Astana format meetings. Our teams will continue working together on the Idlib memorandum to implement the Idlib memorandum and joint patrols of Russian and Turkish troops will also start along the boundaries of Idlib. These are all the issues we discussed and we will continue working together and we should also continue implementing the Idlib deal, which is important for Syria," Cavusoglu said on Saturday.

He added that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had proposed to hold trilateral meetings between foreign ministers of Turkey, Russia and Iran on the Syrian issue, particularly, on creation of the Syrian constitutional committee.

"In principle, I said 'yes.' We need to actually call… the first meeting of this [Syrian] constitution committee as soon as possible, possibly by the end of this year as we agreed in Istanbul," Cavusoglu added.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin also said that Russia and Turkey are concerned about the situation in the Syrian province of Idlib, hoping that the joint efforts of the defence ministries and special services of the two nations will result in solving the situation and creating a demilitarized zone in the area as soon as possible.

"The situation in Idlib worries us too. We see that our Turkish partners have not yet managed to achieve everything [that is planned], but they are working. We also see that they are working on creating a demilitarized zone,” Putin said at a press conference, when asked about his contacts with Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the G20 sidelines.

“We hope that our special services and the defence ministries will resolve this issue via joint efforts as soon as possible,” he added.

The demilitarized zone in Idlib was established on September 17, when Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed on the issue.

Syrian military still training with S-300 air defense system – source

A source in Damascus told Al-Masdar News on Saturday that the Syrian military is still training with the S-300 air defense system.

“The S-300 will take time to learn, but they (Syrian military) are getting very close to completing their training,” the source said.

“Russians are working with the military to perfect their use of the S-300,” he added.

The S-300 was delivered to the Syrian Arab Republic by the Russian Federation on October 1st.

Since its arrival, the Syrian military has installed a launching site near the large city of Masyaf, which is located along the Hama-Tartous provincial border.

SYRIAN ARMY RETALIATES TO NEW VIOLATIONS IN NORTHERN HAMA

In a new violation of the Russian-Turkish demilitarized zone agreement, radical militants attempted to launch attacks on positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) around the towns of al-Zalaqiat and Mahardah in the northern Hama countryside on December 1.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reporter in Hama confirmed that the army foiled both attempts after killing and injuring several radical militants.

Hours after the failed attacks, militants shelled residential areas in the towns of Suran and Tell Bazzam, which are also located in the northern Hama countryside. In response to this violation, the SAA artillery shelled several positions of the militants killing and injuring many of them.

These repeated violations of the demilitarized zone agreement may force the SAA and its allies to launch a limited militantly operation in northwestern Syria soon. Recent reports indicate that the army is already massing its troops in northern Lattakia, northwestern Hama and around the city of Aleppo.

US actions in Syria's Dayr al-Zawr ‘illegitimate': Russia’s FM

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says actions taken by the United States in Syria’s eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr are “illegitimate.”

“What is happening on the eastern banks of the Euphrates River clearly violates the commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity as declared by all and confirmed in the UN Security Council’s resolution. In my view, this is already evident for all,” Lavrov said in an interview with Rossiya 1 TV channel on Sunday.

The Russian top diplomat added that Washington was trying to pretend that the presence of its military forces in the Arab country and the steps it took there were “temporary,” implying that the truth is otherwise.

Since September 2014, the United States has been leading a military coalition conducting airstrikes against purported targets of the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group inside Syria without any authorization from the Damascus government or a UN mandate.

The military alliance has repeatedly been accused of targeting and killing civilians. It has also been largely incapable of fulfilling its declared aim of destroying Daesh.

Lavrov said the Pentagon, which is deploying soldiers and advisers to Syria, is playing a very dangerous game related to the Kurds, ignoring the sensitivity of the issue not only to Syria, but also Iraq, Iran and Turkey.

“Unacceptable things are happening on the eastern banks of the Euphrates River. The US is trying to establish quasi-state structures. They earmark hundreds of millions of dollars into rebuilding these areas, so that people could return to a normal peaceful life, but they refuse to restore infrastructure on the territories, which are controlled by the Syrian government,” he added.

Daesh has already lost all of its urban strongholds in Syria thanks to the Syrian army’s counterterrorism offensives, backed by Russian air cover, which began in September 2015 upon an official request from the Syrian government.

Daesh started a campaign of terror against Syria and Iraq in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

Russia on multiple occasions has strongly urged the so-called US-led coalition to leave the Arab country as it is not welcome there, but all to no avail.

In October last year, Lavrov said the presence of the US-led coalition in the form of “a wide range of foreign countries” is “illegitimate” because “nobody has invited them” to the Arab country.

Elsewhere in his remarks on Sunday, the Russian top diplomat said over the years, the Western countries have not offered any reasonable alternatives to the ideas and initiatives set by the guarantor states -- namely Russia, Iran and Turkey -- within peace negotiations in Astana, Kazakhstan, in terms of combating terrorism, creating conditions for the return of the displaced Syrians, humanitarian assistance, and the political process in the country.

US Forces Attack Syrian Military With Barrage Of Missiles In Al-Badiyah

syria-1.jpg
Map shows the Syrian Army areas “in the circles ” that were attacked

The US forces stationed in the bordering Al-Tanaf military base, have bombed the Syrian Army positions in the heart of the Syrian Al-Badiyah desert.

Military source announced few moments ago that the US forces fired 14 missiles on the government troops sites located near Al-Sukhnah area east of Palmyra.

The source denied any human losses among the soldiers as casualties were in materials.

AlTanaf is known as the “55 km” area, where hundreds of Syrian fighters operating there who are supported by the United States of America, receiving training by military advisors.

“Al-Tanf” is located on the Damascus-Baghdad road on the border with Iraq and not far from the Jordanian border, as Washington justifies its presence in the Al-Tanf area by the necessity of fighting “Al-Da’ash” or “ISIS”.

It is noteworthy that the southern region of Syria had witnessed – during the past two days – an Israeli aggression, in which the Syrian air defenses intercepted all the upcoming missiles and destroyed them completely.

Syrian Army Kills Over 270 Daesh Militants During Al-Suwayda Province Offensive

Syrian Army has killed over 270 Daesh terrorists during an offensive in Syrian Al-Suwayda province, the command of the Russian forces in Syria reported.

Russian Defence Ministry reported that Syrian Army has killed over 270 Daesh terrorists and seized a huge stockpile of foreign weapons, including 12 TOW missiles, during offensive in Syrian's Al-Suwayda province.

"During the operation, more than 270 militants were killed, a large stockpile of weapons of foreign production, munitions, shells, mines, including 12 [US-made] TOW anti-tank guided missiles, were seized," Oleg Makarevich said.

He noted that the majority of militants came to the province from the area of At-Tanf, where a US military base is located.

In August, heavy clashes between the government forces and jihadists were reported in the southwestern province of Suwayda. The Syrian Army reportedly advanced to drive Daesh* terrorists out of a desert in the province.

Previous year, Syrian government forces managed to liberate 1,300 square kilometres (500 square miles) of the country's territory from terrorists in Al Suwayda province, according to local reports.

Syrian Serviceman Killed by Militants’ Attack in Syria’s Hama

One Syrian serviceman was killed and one more injured as a result of militants’ shelling attack in the province of Hama, head of the Russian Defense Ministry’s Center for Syrian reconciliation Lt. Gen. Sergei Solomatin said on Sunday.

“Despite the ceasefire, there are still cases of truce violations by illegal armed formations in the Idlib de-escalation zone. Over the past day, terrorists attacked the settlement of Zalaqiyat, Hama province, Jubb al-Mgara, Latakia province, and the Hay al-Ansari district of the city of Aleppo. One Syrian serviceman was killed and one injured as a result of the attack on Zalaqiyat,” Solomatin said.

According to the Russian official, Damascus continued to work on amnesty for those, who avoided military service, in line with the presidential decree dated November 9. Solomatin noted that 14,221 people had already been granted amnesty as for November 30.

Solomatin added that the Russian Center for Syrian reconciliation had carried out two humanitarian actions within last 24 hours in the provinces of Deir ez-Zor and Homs.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the government forces fighting against numerous opposition groups and militant and terrorist organizations. Russia, along with Turkey and Iran, is a guarantor of the ceasefire in Syria. Moscow has also been providing humanitarian aid to residents of the crisis-torn country.

US Forces Bombard Very Strategic Syrian Army Position In South Syria – Why Is It Important? What We Now Know

Late on Sunday night, Syrian Army units operating in southern Syria came under heavy bombardment from an artillery barrage launched by US forces. The attack targeted a very specific and important Syrian military position in the region.

As mentioned even in Syrian state media reports, the Syrian military units which came under attack were based atop the mountain of Jabal Al-Ghorab. This high mountain has such serious strategic value that it leaves nearby US forces positioned in the Al-Tanf area anxious with the reality that it is the Syrian Army, and not them, who possess it.

So effectively does Jabal Al-Ghorab tower over the Martian-like desert terrain of south Syria, that it allows Syrian Army sentry units stationed on top of it to oversee the entire Al-Tanf area, including the base where the US forces and Pentagon-backed rebel groups operate from.

Syrian Army outposts on top of Jabal Al-Ghorab have been attacked by US forces without provocation before; earlier this year, the US conducted a drone strike on a position atop the mountain which reportedly killed at least two Syrian troops.

Whilst the US may have the world’s most powerful air force, all generals know that, for ground forces, nothing beats holding the high-ground in a given area of operations.

The Syrian Army’s stationing on Jabal Al-Ghorab serves an operational thorn in the side of US and US-backed forces, for whilst they might have denied the skies over Al-Tanf, all their movements and positions can still be spied upon from the highest peak in area.

Israeli warplanes return to Syrian border as Damascus raises alert levels

The Israeli Air Force has resumed their flights along the Lebanese-Syrian border recently after stalking this region several times last week.

According to a source in Damascus, the Israeli Air Force flew along the Lebanese-Syrian border after entering southern Lebanon from Upper Galilee this morning.

While the Israeli Air Force did not enter Syria, the Syrian military still raised their alert levels in order to prepare their air defense for any potential conflict in the western part of the country.

The reason for concern is because the Israeli Air Force often takes this flight route when they launch attacks in Syria’s Damascus and Homs provinces.

Last week, the Syrian military said that a number of missiles were fired towards the Damascus Governorate town of Al-Kiswah after the Israeli Air Force conducted a similar flight in eastern Lebanon.

The Syrian military later said that all of the enemy missiles were shot down before they could reach their intended targets.

Al-Nusra terrorists obtain 100 drones through Turkish borders to use them in chemical attacks

Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization has obtained 100 drones through one of the Turkish merchants with the aim of carrying out terrorist attacks with chemical substances on civilians and positions of the Syrian Arab Army from Idleb.

In a report published on Monday, Russian Sputnik Agency quoted local sources as saying that drones had been transported from Harem town in vicinity of the Turkish borders to one of the positions of Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization in Ma’ar Masrin town, about 9 km to the north of Idleb City.

The drones were handed over to Moroccan and Libyan terrorists, the sources added.

“Terrorists are working under the supervision of a British expert to make modifications on the drones to become lighter and to able to carry small shells loaded with toxic chemical substances,” according to the sources.

On August 30th, Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization transported 200 drones from Sarmada area in Idleb Countryside to one of its positions in al-Muhandisin neighborhood in Idleb City as Turkish and Chechen experts made technical and electronic modifications on them, and the drones had entered the Syrian territories earlier from Turkey.

On Nov. 25th, local sources and media reports revealed that Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization transported about 50 missiles and they were modified by French experts at one of al-Nusra’s positions near Idleb Central Prison, and the heads of the missiles became loaded with chlorine gas and they were distributed among terrorist groups in the countryside of Idleb and Hama.

Terrorists Dispatch Unprecedented Military Convoys, Thousands of Riflemen to Demilitarized Zone in Northern Syria

The Arabic-language website of Sputnik quoted well-informed sources in Idlib province as reporting that Tahrir al-Sham has sent a huge convoy of military equipment al-Ghaab plain in Northwestern Hama and also Northeastern Lattakia.

It further said that Tahrir al-Sham, in cooperation with Turkistani Islamic Party terrorists, have transferred a large number of cannons, missile launchpads and machinegun-equipped vehicles to the frontlines in the demilitarized zone.

The news agency went on to say that Tahrir al-Sham has also forwarded its elite forces from Chechnya, Uzbekistan and Belgium to al-Ghaab plain along with over 5,000 ISIL terrorists to counter the Syrian army.

In the meantime, Tahrir al-Sham and Turkistani Party have started seizing people's properties and forcing civilians to leave their region, it said, adding that the two terrorist groups have deployed 8,000 Chechen, Uygur and French gunmen in captured areas in Jisr al-Shughour in Western Idlib.

The news agency pointed to Turkistani Party's attempt to set up settlements in Jisr al-Shughour, mainly in Hallouz, al-Qasaniyah and al-Marj, and said that the terrorist group has equipped the villages under its control with all the necessary medical, logistical and food-supply facilities for its gunmen.

The terrorists' refusal to implement the Sochi Agreement to establish a demilitarized zone is pushing the army to initiate its long-waited assault on militants in Idlib that had been put on hold due to the Sochi Agreement.

Kremlin warns ‘quasi-states’ may emerge in Syria

Moscow denounces all measures that could lead to an emergence of the so-called ‘quasi-state’ formations in Syria since they pose a threat of an total destabilization of the region, Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

"We are absolutely against all measures on the territory of Syria that could lead to an emergence of ‘quasi-state’ formations, which could subsequently damage the territorial integrity of Syria," Peskov said speaking at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).

"Such measures would lead to an absolute destabilization of the whole region," Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman said.

Peskov also said that the formation of the demilitarized zone in Syria’s Idlib "is now bit more complicated than it seemed before."

"The things are now more complicated than we thought of them before," Peskov said as he commented on the developments in the region and added about continued attacks of militants.

"This issue was discussed between the Russian president and President [of Turkey Recep Tayyip] Erdogan a day ago," Peskov said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced earlier that the leaders of Russia and Turkey agreed during their meeting in Buenos Aires over the weekend on the sidelines of the G20 summit on steps to implement accords on Syria’s Idlib demilitarized zone.

Demilitarized zone in Syria’s Idlib

The process of the establishment of a demilitarized zone in Syria’s Idlib has turned out to be "somewhat more difficult than it seemed," he said.

"The situation is somewhat more difficult than it seemed," he said describing the development in that governorate, with continuing shelling attacks by militants.

"This topic was addressed at the president’s [Vladimir Putin’s] meeting with [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan a day ago," he said, adding that Turkey is scrupulously fulfilling its liabilities in Idlib.

Russian military delivers warm clothes, toys to orphanage in Syria’s Aleppo

Military of Russia’s Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria has delivered warm clothes, toys, school backpacks and stationeries to an orphanage in Aleppo, a spokesman for the center said on Tuesday.

"The servicemen of the Russian Reconciliation Center have delivered to the orphanage warm clothes, toys, sweets, school backpacks and writing materials, a total of 80 sets," Major General Sergey Popov said.

This orphanage is home to 75 girls aged between 3 and 17, whose parents were killed in the combat actions. "There was the war here and shells and missiles were fired. But we had to feed children and that’s why we worked at a small market nearby to earn money for food for the girls. Now this is back in the past, but one problem remains - the narrow premises, and that’s why we are planning to build the second floor of the building," Head of the orphanage Djuma Maqi said.

The Russian Reconciliation Center plans to supply New Year presents to all orphanages in Aleppo. "New Year presents from Russia will be delivered to all orphanages in Aleppo," Popov said.

Saudi Arabia conducted second most strikes in Syria: Coalition

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia launched the second most airstrikes in Syria after the United States, the Global Coalition said in a new report on Monday.

“The Kingdom ranked second after the United States of America in the number of air strikes carried out within the Global Coalition in (Syria),” the report read.

No further details were released regarding the Saudi military’s participating in the ongoing efforts to eliminate the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) from the region.

Last month, Turkish publications claimed that the Saudi and Emirati ground forces had entered Syria and taken up positions east of the Euphrates.

While these claims were never corroborated by the Global Coalition, the two Gulf nations did send delegates to meet with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the Aleppo Governorate city of Kobane (var. ‘Ayn Al-‘Arab).

Tough Battle Reported Between two Main Terrorist Groups in Northwestern Syria

Tahrir al-Sham and Ahrar al-Sham, affiliated to the Free Army, exchanged heavy fire in Jadraya and Anab in Southern Idlib and other fronts in Jozef and Mahmabal regions in al-Ghaab Plain in Southwestern Idlib.

In the meantime, Tahrir al-Sham recaptured the villages of Jadraya and Anab in the clashes.

The clashes inflicted a number of casualties on both warring side, as at least 10 Tahrir al-Sham members were killed.

Several more gunmen from both sides were wounded or captured.

A field sources said that both Tahrir al-Sham and Ahrar al-Sham have put their fighters on alert, and said that Ahrar al-Sham has forwarded a long military convoy to al-Ghaab Plain in Northwestern Hama that is connected to al-Roj Plain in Southwestern Idlib.

The sources said that the infighting came after differences over the shares from the railway lines looted by the terrorist groups from the small town of Harbanoush in Northern Idlib.

HTS captures new town inside Idlib deescalation zone

Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham has expanded their presence in the Idlib deescalation zone, today, after clashing with the Turkish-backed rebels in northwestern Hama.

According to reports from the Idlib province, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham captured the town of Zayzoun in northwestern Hama after overrunning the defenses of the Turkish-backed National Liberation Front (NLF).

As a result of this advance, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham has now captured two towns from the National Liberation Front in northwestern Syria.

Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham is now attempting to capture more ground from the National Liberation Front, as they look to expand their presence in Hama and Idlib.

Syrian Army Fends off ISIL's Offensive in Homs Desert

The army men engaged in heavy fighting with ISIL in Humeimeh region in Eastern Homs and managed to repel their attack after inflicting major losses on the terrorists.

The remaining pockets of the terrorists retreated after their failed attack.

In the meantime, the army's air force bombed several times ISIL's movements in al-Sukhnah desert in Eastern Homs and near T2 Oil Pumping Station in Southwestern Deir Ezzur, killing and wounding a number of terrorists.

Syrian military seizes large cache of weapons in Daraa, US-made missiles found (video)

The Syrian military seized a large cache of weapons this week that were left behind by the jihadist rebels in Daraa city.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the military uncovered the weapons cache while combing through the abandoned bases of the jihadist rebels in the Daraa Al-Balad District.

Among the weapons seized by the Syrian Arab Army were anti-tank TOW missiles, snipers, a large number of automatic rifles, artillery shells, mortar shells, RPG launchers and medium machine guns.

The Syrian military said the anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM) were manufactured in the United States.

Below is the SANA video of the weapons cache:

The parents of an American journalist kidnapped in Syria six years ago appealed on Tuesday for the United States and Syria to work together to find their son and said they had applied for Syrian visas to lobby there for his release, Reuters reports.

Austin Tice was 31 years old when he was detained in August 2012 at a checkpoint while reporting in Damascus on the uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

He has not been heard from publicly since a video posted online weeks after he disappeared showed him in the custody of armed men, though both Washington and his parents say they believe he is alive.

“We urge both the United States government and the Syrian government to work together to resolve this humanitarian issue,” Marc Tice said at a conference in Beirut.

This is the eighth trip Debra and Marc Tice have made to Beirut in their quest to seek their son’s release and they say they have increased hope that the administration of President Donald Trump could make progress in the case.

“One of the continuous requests we make of the US government is that they make direct contact with their peers in Syria. And that never occurred during Obama administration,” Marc Tice said. “We are very encouraged during this new administration.”

Robert O’Brien, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy for hostage affairs, said in November the United States believes Tice is alive but did not elaborate on his condition.

O’Brien urged Russia, a close ally of Assad, to push for Tice’s release. The Syrian government says it is unaware of Tice’s whereabouts

Marc and Debra Tice did not comment on who might be holding their son, but said they believed he was in Syria and that the Syrian government was best placed to help find him.

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation has offered a reward of $1 million for information that leads to Austin’s safe return. Recently, a coalition of media and other organizations in the United States announced plans to match the FBI reward.

“Through these long years we have periodically been told by reliable sources that Austin is alive and is being properly cared for,” Debra Tice said.

Russia believes that the call by US Special Envoy to Syria James Jeffrey to "pull the plug" on the Russia-led Sochi and Astana talks on Syria is unprofessional and unconstructive, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters on Wednesday.

"Such broad statements that if [progress on the Syrian constitutional committee is not achieved] by December, then that’s the end, are inappropriate here. For experts, this is a sign that those people who make these assessments are not professionals," Zakharova said. These statements play into the hands of those who oppose peaceful settlement and "these are additional arguments for the remaining extremists and militants."

"In general, we consider that these statements, mildly speaking, are unconstructive. The political settlement process [in Syria] is not easy, and our experts are dealing with this on an everyday basis with their colleagues," the diplomat said.

Washington has started explicitly demonstrating that Russia’s efforts on resolving the Syrian crisis are not advantageous for it, Zakharova noted.

"We have always emphasized that any timeframes imposed as a recipe are ineffective and destructive in this case. This is a delicate process and this concerns the future of the state system and the people, and this nation is multiconfessional and multiethnic."

Earlier, US Special Envoy to Syria James Jeffrey suggested "pulling the plug" on the Sochi and Astana talks on peaceful settlement in Syria unless they yielded a decision on setting up a constitutional committee for the Arab state by mid-December.

Zakharova: Washington’s suspicious behavior in Syria worries Moscow

The suspicious behaviors of the US-led international coalition in Syria is becoming increasingly worrying to Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.

Zakharova clarified in her weekly press conference that the presence of the US forces in Syria is illegitimate as they occupy an area of 55 km in al-Tanf.

She noted that Washington attempts through its illegitimate presence in Syria to “play the Kurdish card” regardless of the official statements through which it claims adherence to Syria’s territorial integrity.

Regarding the US statements on the necessity of forming a committee for discussing the Constitution within the current month, Zakharova said that these statements do not serve the interest of the political process in Syria, adding that the US tries to derail all the political initiatives, thus, Moscow considers such statements as non-constructive.

IS expanding footprint in Syria's east controlled by US, Russian General Staff Chief says

Terrorists in Syria are still present only on the territory controlled by the US in the Al-Tanf area and on the eastern Euphrates River bank, head of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov said on Wednesday at a briefing for foreign military attaches.

"Today the ISIS (a former name of the terrorist organization Islamic State, which is outlawed in Russia - TASS) militants are staying just east of the Euphrates, on the territory controlled by the US. The remaining part of the armed units of radical groups led by Jabhat al-Nusra (outlawed in Russia - TASS) is concentrated inside the Idlib de-escalation zone and in the Al-Tanf area, which is controlled by the US-led coalition," Gerasimov said.

Gerasimov reiterated that by the start of the operation of the Russian Aerospace Force in 2015 about 10% of Syria’s territory remained under the control of the government forces. Most part of the country’s territory was liberated with support from the Russian army during this time. In particular, the Syrian government restored control over the communities of Palmyra, Aleppo, Uqayribat, Deir ez-Zor and Abu Kamal. The active phase of the operation to eliminate criminal groups on Syrian territory was completed in December last year.

The head of the General Staff stressed that the illegal presence of American military bases on Syrian territory remains a major unresolved issue in Syria. "Let’s take Al-Tanf, for example. The United States established the so-called 55-km security zone around this community, and illegal armed groups continue their terrorist activity under its cover, making periodic sorties against the government forces," he reported.

The Americans explain the need for their military presence by the necessity to counter Iran, which is allegedly transporting arms and military equipment to Syria through the Syrian-Iraqi border. Russia suggested removing the security zone around Al-Tanf, Gerasimov said, and establishing joint Russian-American control over the border passage. "However, the American partners left our proposal unanswered," he said.

In addition, he said, the situation on the eastern Euphrates River is escalating, where the US, using the Syrian Kurds, is trying to create an independent quasi-state entity that would be independent from the central authorities. "They are also forming a government for the so-called Democratic Federation of Northern Syria. The Americans, that support the Kurds’ separatist sentiments by delivering arms and military equipment, allow them to oppress Arab tribes," Valery Gerasimov said.

Syrian troops destroyed 23,000 militants in 2018 — Russian General Staff

Syrian troops in 2018 destroyed 23,000 militants in Syria and liberated 387 settlements, Head of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov said on Wednesday at a briefing for foreign military attaches.

According to him, this year, Syrian government troops, who had gained considerable combat experience under the leadership of Russian military advisers, successfully carried out operations to take control of the Eastern Ghouta, Homs and southern de-escalation zones. "At the same time, more than 23,000 militants have been destroyed. 387 settlements have been freed from radical Islamists," Gerasimov said.

Gerasimov noted that during the liberation of settlements, the main condition was not to have civilian casualties, therefore, operations were carried out without the use of military force.

"The decisive role was played by the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties. During operations, over 230,000 people were taken out of de-escalation zones through specially created humanitarian corridors," he explained.

At the same time, according to Gerasimov, it was possible to avoid casualties among civilians and members of groups of moderate opposition. Militants voluntarily surrendered 650 weapons and military equipment. In addition, more than 40,000 members of the armed groups of the "moderate" opposition joined the government forces.

Daesh terrorists executing local residents in Syria's Dayr al-Zawr, top UN official warns

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, has warned against the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Syria’s troubled eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr, saying that Daesh Takfiri terrorists are putting local residents to death.

Speaking to a news conference in the Swiss city of Geneva on Wednesday, Bachelet voiced deep concern for 7,000 civilians, whom she said had been caught between Daesh militants preventing them from evacuating Dayr al-Zawr, located 450 kilometers northeast of the capital Damascus, and US-led coalition airstrikes.

“We also have reports of Daesh executing people perceived as cooperating with SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) or other parties to the conflict,” she said.

The high-ranking UN official went on to say that civilians in Dayr al-Zawr province are being used as “pawns and bargaining chips” in the conflict.

Syrian army forces foil militant infiltration attempt in Latakia

Meanwhile, Syrian government troops have thwarted an attempt by a group of foreign-sponsored Takfiri militants to sneak into Kinsabba town in the country’s western coastal province of Latakia.

Syria’s official news agency SANA reported that army soldiers engaged in a fierce exchange of gunfire with the Takfiris, leaving scores of them killed and injured.

A military source, requesting not to be named, said the slain militants hailed from Ain al-Haour area, situated only five kilometers north of Kinsabba, and were planning to attack a military position.

Syrian army uncovers militant weapons cache in Idlib

Separately, Syrian government forces have discovered considerable amounts of munitions and highly explosive materials from militant hideouts in Tell Silmo village of the northwestern province of Idlib.

Elsewhere in the southwestern province of Dara’a, Syrian troops found weapons belonging to Taqkfiri militants in Nasib village.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The Syrian government says the Israeli regime and its Western and regional allies are aiding Takfiri terrorist groups wreaking havoc in the country.

Jihadist infighting in Idlib ends after truce is reached

The jihadist infighting has ended in the Idlib province after an agreement was reached between both warring parties.

According to opposition activists via social media, an agreement was reached between Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham to end their infighting and release their prisoners held on both sides.

The infighting began on Tuesday, when members of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham stormed several towns controlled by the National Liberation Front (NLF).

Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham ended up capturing at least three towns from the National Liberation Front, including two towns inside the Al-Ghaab Plain.

No reason was given for the attacks by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham; however, these truces do not last for very long.

In the past, several truces have been made by these rebel factions, but they have all fallen apart at some time or another.
