This is mostly a look back to the year 2017 on the subject of Syria, a panel discussion on tactics of propaganda. Noting exactly new here, however there is a particular example in the first 25 min. of what happens to Miller.
In the talk, Mark takes one back in time to Germany and Poland - narratives in the opposing press, and further back to the British and American's in WWI (same press issues as propaganda became key). Syria is in discussion, and the question of "Barrel Bombs" comes up, that if recalled, spread like wildfire upon the lips and headlines of the MSN media (of course the politicians echoed), catchwords that sparked fear and anger against the al Assad 'regime,' as the press washed and repeated.
So, suddenly, a professor of philosophy barks, as opposed to chiming in from the audience, interrupting Miller's talk. This professor is highly emotional, angry and won't stop. Mark uses the interruption very well indeed, and points out how effective this propaganda really is - look, stop and think about how it is you are thinking these thoughts, where do they come from and what is the source evidence they are based upon, more or less (here there is a smart living example of the educated type that fell for for it). It becomes clear after this interruption that this other professor did what most do when having to face their cognitive dissonance; there is no listening, it is too painful - thus he left in a huff.
That part is worth viewing, if nothing else.
Philip Giraldi makes some good points in discussion, as does Jason Hirthler (additional comments were made as can be read below). There is a Q&A at the end.
Understanding US regime change in Syria - 2017 Panel
The Panel included Mark Crisper Miller (he opens up the discussion)What are the goals of US "regime change" in Syria? How does the U.S media narrative affect the crisis, and relate to U.S interventionism in the Middle East? What can we learn from the Western coverage of the recent chemical attacks on Syrian civilians, the role of the White Helmets, and other questionable aspects of the narrative? What are U.S/NATO/Israeli/Turkey/Saudi/Qatari motivations in Syria? This panel will discuss such questions, to shed some light on one of the world's worst humanitarian disasters since World War Two. Panel features former CIA analyst & Counter Terrorism Specialist Philip Giraldi, Jason Hirthler, investigative journalist & author of The Sins of Empire: Unmasking American Imperialism, and NYU Media Studies professor Mark Crispin Miller. Additional remarks by INN World Report radio host, Tom Kiely. Moderated by journalist & documentary filmmaker, Priya Reddy.
