The Syrian people now have hope, and can slowly retake their country and rebuild from the nightmare of only just 6 months ago. Great victory indeed.

Putin congratulates Assad on retaking Palmyra from ISIS

Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Syrian President Bashar Assad on retaking the ancient city of Palmyra from Islamic State terrorists. Putin stressed the importance of preserving the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

"In a telephone conversation with the Syrian president, Vladimir Putin congratulated his counterpart on retaking the city of Palmyra from terrorists and noted the importance of preserving this unique historic site for world culture," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Sunday.

"Putin once again stressed that despite the withdrawal of the bulk of Russia's military contingent from Syria, Russia’s forces will continue to help the Syrian authorities in their anti-terrorist efforts," he added.

“Assad highly valued the help Russian air forces have provided and underlined that such successes as regaining Palmyra would have been impossible without Russia's support," Peskov said.

On Sunday, the Syrian Army retook the historic city of Palmyra from Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), which had occupied it since last May. Russian warplanes were providing heavy support from the air.

The Russian Air Force has made 40 flights over the area of the Syrian city of Palmyra in the last 24 hours, hitting 117 targets and killing over 80 militants, the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria said Sunday.

Putin also held a phone call with UNESCO head Irina Bokova on Sunday. Peskov said Putin told Bokova that “representatives of the Russian contingent will participate in the demining of the ancient city.”

The two agreed that UNESCO, Russia and Syria will soon take the necessary steps to evaluate the damage to the historic site and map out a “plan of restoring what can still be restored,” Peskov added.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, Bokova thanked Putin for Russia’s contribution and confirmed UNESCO’s readiness to cooperate.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Syrian President Bashar Assad in a telephone talk with President Vladimir Putin praised Russia's efforts in contributing to Syria's peace process, the Kremlin press service said in a statement Sunday.

"The Syrian president praised Russia's political and diplomatic efforts in launching the negotiation process on Syria's domestic settlement. Both sides expressed hope for progress in intra-Syrian talks and in promoting constitutional reforms in the country," the statement said.

Russian military to take part in demining in Palmyra — Putin

The Russian leader congratulated the UNESCO director general Irina Bokova on the liberation of the ancient city of Palmyra, a UNESCO world heritage site, from terrorists

MOSCOW, March 27. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised that the Russian contingent in Syria will take part in demining works in Palmyra, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday after Putin’s telephone conversation with UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova.

The Russian leader congratulated the UNESCO director general on the liberation of the ancient city of Palmyra, a UNESCO world heritage site, from terrorists. "Putin informed Bokova that officers of the Russian contingent jointly with the Syrian military will take part in demining works in this ancient city," Peskov said.

"The Russian president and the UNESCO director general agreed that UNESCO, Russia and Syria will take necessary measures as soon as possible to evaluate damage done to Palmyra by terrorists and to work out a plan of actions to restore what can be restored," the Kemlin spokesman said.

Bokova thanked Putin for assistance and reiterated UNESCO’s commitment to joint work, Peskov added.

The Syrian army on Sunday said that it liberated the ancient city of Palmyra, a UNESCO world heritage site, with support from the Russian air group.

Palmyra, an ancient city in Syria’s Homs province, was seized by gunmen of the Islamic State (a terrorist organization outlawed in Russia) in early summer 2015. The Syrian authorities said back then that Palmyra with its monumental ruins of a great city that was one of the most important cultural centres of the ancient world standing at the crossroads of several civilizations, could share the miserable fate of Iraq’s ancient cities of Assur, Nimrud and Hatra that were destroyed by Islamic State militants.

DMSP-19 weather satellite dead after Air Force ends recovery effort

WASHINGTON — The Air Force has stopped trying to recover a two-year-old weather satellite after operators lost the ability to command the spacecraft last month, an Air Force spokesman said March 24.

Operators at the 50th Space Wing at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado have “ceased all recovery efforts” of the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Flight 19 satellite, Andy Roake, a spokesman for Air Force Space Command, said in a March 24 email to SpaceNews.

NOAA satellite operators unexpectedly lost the ability to command the Air Force’s DMSP Flight 19 satellite on Feb. 11. The satellite, built by Lockheed Martin, is used to help weather forecasters predict fog, thunderstorms and hurricanes that could impact military operations. Launched in April 2014, the spacecraft is the Air Force’s newest weather satellite on orbit and had a five-year design life.

In the last week, Gen. John Hyten, the head of Air Force Space Command, ordered the creation of a safety investigation board to look into the incident, Roake said. Further investigations are still possible.

Hyten warned a House subcommittee March 15 that he did not expect the satellite to return to operations.

The DMSP constellation requires at least two primary satellites and two backup satellites to gather cloud imagery. As a result of the problem, the Air Force has reassigned an older satellite, DMSP Flight 17, which launched in 2006 and had been serving as a backup, into a primary role.

So the Pentagon just completely lost a relatively new satellite that was used "to help weather forecasters predict fog, thunderstorms and hurricanes that could impact military operations".

Wonder if that is just a coincidence or if russia/china and/or iran is somehow involved? Maybe a fireball disabled it? I dunno...

C's have said the higher authorities (ET's) have brought down a few recently.

I think so much of what we see in our world (including the Middle East) is the by-product of what's behind the scene from out of this world. If not for Laura's access to higher dimensional insights ... we all would still be clueless.

I have a list of verbal recitations that I do each day, on my early morning walks at sunrise. (Like personalized mantras.) And the very first one is:

"By the pricking of my thumbs,
something wicked this way comes.
Open locks ... whoever knocks."

It reminds me not to ever forget the over-riding framework of our existence. And problems.

I could be wrong.

FWIW.

As an aside, some of you may wish to try this. (I've found it hugely beneficial.)

I see many personal "signatures" associated with forum members. I'm sure these words were chosen with the greatest of care. As expressions (summations) of deep beliefs. Some signatures are rather short -- others lengthy.

Try memorizing your own. And during a moment of peace & quiet, recite it to yourself. Infuse it with feeling & emotion ... coming from your inner being.

Bring it to life -- through their sound. When you can do this with clear intent, that inner resonance can be quite amazing and inspiring.

My current list runs 11. (Some quite lengthy and personal.) On this list, the second recitation is from someone I admire. And it is this:

"He who learns must suffer.
And even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget
Falls drop by drop upon the heart.
And in our own despair, against our will,
Comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God."

I find this practice gives me strength, inner peace, and courage to go forward. At the same time, a reminder of life's fragility as well. (Tears are often, with these recitations.)

NATO/US just can not stop their psychopathic nonsense, can they? They can be very lucky that the russian government is still so level headed and prudent, even though NATO/US is constantly provoking another world war:

Russian Defense Minister Plane Shadowed by NATO Jets on Way to Kaliningrad

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu’s plane, escorted by Su-27 fighter jets over neutral waters in the Baltic Sea en route to Kaliningrad, was shadowed by NATO fighters on Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The NATO Eurofighters kept a distance of two kilometers (just over one mile) from the defense minister’s aircraft, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported from the minister’s plane. The Russian defense minister’s plane has already arrived at its destination.
Shoigu arrived in Russia’s western exclave of Kaliningrad to inspect the reconstruction of the Chkalovsk Military Airfield outside the city of Kaliningrad.

Russia's relations with the NATO deteriorated in 2014 over the Ukrainian crisis, with the alliance cutting off all practical civilian and military cooperation under the NATO-Russia Council. The United States, European Union and their allies accused Russia of meddling in Ukrainian internal affairs.

Moscow has repeatedly refuted the allegations, noting that NATO amassing troops and military equipment on Russia’s borders constitute provocative acts contrary to previous agreements and can destabilize the region.

Syria's Palmyra Retaken, Russian Airstrikes Avoided Monuments - Russian MoD

http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20160328/1037098834/russia-palmyra-monuments.html

Syrian government forces and patriotic militias have retaken from terrorists most of the ancient city of Palmyra with support of Russian airstrikes which avoided targeting historical monuments, the commander of the Russian center for Syrian reconciliation said Monday.

HMEYMIM (Sputnik) — The Syrian army confirmed Sunday that it had liberated the historic city of Palmyra from Daesh terrorist group with support of national aviation and Russian Aerospace Forces.

"The Syrian government forces supported by people's militia and Russian airstrikes have liberated the ancient city of Palmyra," Lt. Gen. Sergei Kuralenko told reporters, adding that some clashes with remaining terrorists were taking place in the southern outskirts of the city.

"Russian airstrikes have not targeted the areas of Palmyra where ancient monuments are located. Special forces personnel carried out target-designation to avoid the destruction of Palmyra monuments and civilian-populated areas," Kuralenko stressed.

Palmyra, located 210 kilometers away from Damascus, is considered key for advancing to the Daesh stronghold of Raqqa in eastern Syria. The town of Palmyra and its historic ruins have been under Daesh control since May 2015.

The terrorist group has since destroyed part of the historic sites, which are a designated UNESCO World Heritage site.

A unit of Russian sappers is on the way to Syria to take part in the demining of Palmyra, which was recently retaken from the Islamic State by Russia-backed Syrian forces, head of the Russian reconciliation center in Syria Sergei Kuralenko said Monday.

"A group of leading Russian experts will arrive at the Hmeymim airbase and begin work shortly," Kuralenko told reporters.

"Russian experts will arrive in the Syrian Arab Republic with all necessary equipment, including demining robots. Moreover, mine detection dogs from the International Mine Action Center will take part in the demining of Palmyra," he added.

According to Kuralenko, a significant part of Palmyra's historical monuments has been destroyed, while the rest has been mined.

The Russian center for Syrian reconciliation at the Hmeymim airbase registered nine violations of the ceasefire regime in three Syrian provinces in the last 24 hours, the commander of the center said Monday.

"A total of nine violations of the ceasefire regime have been registered in the past 24 hours, including four each in the Aleppo and Idlib provinces, and one — in the Latakia province," Lt. Gen. Sergei Kuralenko told reporters.

Beauty of Palmyra: Look at Ancient City’s Heritage Sites (PHOTOS)

http://sputniknews.com/art_living/20160328/1037098406/palmyra-heritage-sites-photos.html

After the long-awaited liberation of Palmyra by the Syrian Army on Sunday, to the world’s greatest joy it was revealed that some of the ancient city’s key heritage sites remained untouched. Sputnik takes a closer look at the ancient Syrian city and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Syria's top archeologist and the director of antiquities, Maamoun Abdelkarim, told Sputnik that some of the ruined cultural sites in the city could be restored.

"Today is our happiest day because the city has been liberated from terrorists and its historical monuments will be restored," he said, adding that hundreds of precious items from Palmyra's museum had earlier been moved to safety.

Fortunately, Daesh militants left a theater, the city's main street, walls and four ancient gates untouched. But that's really is a drop in the ocean of sorrow, as since the jihadists took control of Palmyra last May they destroyed a lot of the city's ancient heritage sites.

Many of Palmyra ancient ruins damaged by IS can be restored — Hermitage museum chief

http://tass.ru/en/society/865638

"The destruction is huge, but not absolute. The main symbol of Palmyra, its ancient columns in the desert, can be restored," Mikhail Piotrovsky, director of the Russian Hermitage Museum says

ST PETERSBURG, March 28. /TASS/. The ancient ruins of the Syrian city of Palmyra destroyed by the Islamic State (IS) terrorists can be restored, Mikhail Piotrovsky, director of the Russian Hermitage Museum, said on Monday.

"Palmyra has been destroyed many times, and the last destruction was the most barbaric one," Piotrovsky said. "The destruction is huge, but not absolute. The main symbol of Palmyra, its ancient columns in the desert, can be restored."

"We hope the stolen museum showpieces will be returned, as they are easy to find because of the existing descriptions," Piotrovsky said. "The major part was moved to Damascus and other cities."

Palmyra, located in the Syrian Desert between Damascus and the Euphrates, was one of the richest cities of antiquity. Tradition suggests that biblical King Solomon founded the city.

UNESCO declared the remains of its once majestic temples and buildings world cultural heritage sites in 1980.

IS militants who seized Palmyra last May destroyed several most ancient monuments, including the 2,000-year old statue of the Lion of al-Lat, the temple of Baal Shamin built during the Roman rule in the 1st century AD, and the temple of Bel, the largest edifice on the compound that was erected during the reign of Emperor Tiberius in 32 AD.

The terrorists also beheaded the 80-year-old Dr. Haled al-Asaad, one of the most famous Syrian archeologists who devoted his whole life to the studies of Palmyra heritage.

On March 27, the Syrian army took back the control over Palmyra.

Russia’s Hermitage museum to take part in restoration of Syria’s Palmyra — museum director

The Syrian army on Sunday said that it had liberated the ancient city of Palmyra, a UNESCO world heritage site, with support from the Russian miltiary group in Syria

MOSCOW, March 27. /TASS/. Specialists from Russia’s State Hermitage, a museum of fine arts and culture in Russia’s second largest city of St. Petersburg, will take an active part in restoration of monuments of culture in Syria’s Palmyra, Mikhail Piotrovsky, the Hermitage director, said on Sunday.

"Naturally, we will take an active part, we will share our experiences. The experiences of restoration of Leningrad-St. Petersburg, our monuments and the city’s environs," he said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel.

Restoration of Palmyra is an accomplishable task, Piotrovsky said but warned against hasty steps. "It is quite accomplishable but we should not seek to restore what was never been there… It is necessary to examine everything what used to be standing there but what is now in ruins. And it is possible to gradually restore it," he said.

UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova said earlier on Sunday UNESCO is beginning to consider options for the preservation and restoration of remaining historic monuments in the ancient city and hopes for close cooperation with Russia’s State Hermitage.

The Syrian army on Sunday said that it had liberated the ancient city of Palmyra, a UNESCO world heritage site, with support from the Russian air group.

Russia to offer US-led coalition to jointly clear mines in Syria’s Palmyra — source

http://tass.ru/en/world/865787

According to the source, the Russian Defense Ministry hopes that "at least some members, if not the entire coalition, will support the Russian initiative"

MOSCOW, March 29. /TASS/. The Russian Defense Ministry will propose to the defense ministries from the countries of the US-led anti-terror coalition in Syria to jointly clear mines in Palmyra recently liberated from Islamic State terrorists, a military and diplomatic source told TASS on Tuesday.

"The Defense Ministry of Russia will soon propose to the US-led coalition to take part in the mine-clearing operation in Palmyra," the source said.

According to the source, such a proposal can be transferred by the Russian Center for the Syrian Ceasefire to its US counterpart in Amman or through Russian representatives in the operational center for the ceasefire of the International Syria Support Group in Geneva.

As the source explained, the Russian Defense Ministry hopes that "at least some members, if not the entire coalition, will support the Russian initiative."

Chief of Russia’s General Staff Valery Gerasimov said on Monday that Russia was bringing combat engineers with robots and mine-sniffing dogs to Syria. He invited other countries to join Russia’s mine-clearing effort.

The Syrian army command reported about the liberation of the ancient town of Palmyra on Sunday. The operation to liberate the town on the UNESCO World Heritage list was conducted with the support of Russian warplanes and special forces. Military advisers from Russia also took part in it. Militants of the Islamic State terrorist organization (outlawed in Russia) seized Palmyra in May 2015.

Putin instructs defense minister to report on plans to clear Palmyra of mines

http://tass.ru/en/politics/865899

The Russian leader said that during a phone conversation with UNESCO head and Syrian president, an agreement was reached that Russia will render support in the effort to clear Palmyra of mines

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, March 29. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu to report on plans to clear Palmyra of mines.

"I am asking the defense minister to report after our meeting today what is planned soon, how you think to build that work to clear Palmyra of mines," Putin said. "We have already spoken with you, Sergey Kozhugetovich, I know that you have started preparations."

The Russian leader said that during a telephone conversation with UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and Syrian President Bashar Assad, an agreement was reached that Russia will render support in the effort to clear Palmyra, its approaches and historical values of mines.

"I would like to return once again to the issue of liberation of the city of Palmyra in Syria by Syrian troops with our most active support and participation. First, I want to congratulate our servicemen, who made a serious contribution to the cause of the fight against terrorism," Putin said.

"Second, there’s an issue of purely humanitarian nature. It’s mine clearing," he said at a meeting of the military-technical cooperation commission.

Putin said he discussed that issue with the Syrian president and the UNESCO chief.

"In a phone conversation with the UNESCO director-general, and later with the president of the Syrian Republic, we agreed that we, Russia, will provide support in the effort to clear Palmyra, approaches to Palmyra and, which is particularly important, historical values, of mines," he said.

Syrian media reported early Sunday morning that the government troops had liberated the ancient town of Palmyra, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list, located 215 km (133.5 miles) from Damascus and started mine-clearing in the streets of the town.

Situation in Syria

The ceasefire regime took effect in Syria on February 27. An hour before, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution supporting a cessation of hostilities. The document drafted by Russia and the United States was backed by all 15 Security Council member states.

The ceasefire regime does not cover the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organizations as well as other groups ruled terrorist by the Security Council.

The United Nations has noted that the ceasefire regime, despite separate cases of violations, has been observed on the whole and has led to a considerable reduction of the level of violence in Syria.

Russia’s Aerospace Forces started delivering pinpoint strikes in Syria at facilities of the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organizations, which are banned in Russia, on September 30, 2015, on a request from Syrian President Bashar Assad.

On March 14, 2016, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to start, from March 15, withdrawing the main part of the Russian Aerospace Forces’ group from Syria. Putin said the tasks set before the military "have been fulfilled on the whole." Russian Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Pankov said strikes on terrorists will continue to be delivered.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said March 25 that at least 255,000 people have been killed in Syria during the war. Ban called for the soonest possible termination of the conflict and noted the role Russia and the United States play in efforts on peace settlement.

He said 4 million Syrians have become refugees and another 12 million people inside of the country need humanitarian assistance. Ban added that most part of Syria lies in ruins - over 50% of infrastructure has been destroyed.

On March 24, the first round of indirect intra-Syrian talks ended in Geneva. Their participants - a delegation of the Syrian government and a delegation of the opposition - did not meet each other but communicated through special envoy of the UN secretary general on Syria Staffan de Mistura.

Discussions are due to resume in the first half of April.

Residents Return to Liberated Palmyra, Thank Russia for Helping Hand

http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20160329/1037145271/syria-russia-palmyra-residents.html

Dozens of citizens of Palmyra were overwhelmed with emotions as they expressed their thoughts on the liberation of their city, according to Sputnik's Arabic edition.

In an interview with Sputnik's Arabic edition, citizens of Palmyra pointed the finger at Daesh terrorists for killing civilians and thanked Russia for adding to the liberation of their ancient city.

A man named Mohammed said that Palmyra had gone through one of the most critical moments of its history after the invasion of the Daesh terrorist group.

"It was a terrible crime by Daesh, who killed hundreds of civilians. I thank our army and Russia, which jointly contributed to the liberation of our native city. Now we all are waiting for the end of demining operations so we can return to our homes," Mohammed said.

His family had managed to flee Palmyra after the capture of the city by the terrorists. Mohammed and his loved ones safely reached Homs, where they were able to find a temporary new shelter.

"We left Palmyra just a few hours before Daesh seized full control of the city. The terrorists delivered dozens of mine-laden cars to the city, and some of my loved ones are still missing," he added.

Another resident of Palmyra, a shepherd named Jassim, left Palmyra for Deir ez-Zor following the seizure of the city by the terrorists.

"Entering Palmyra, the terrorists immediately took away all my flock of sheep and goats. The house of one of our neighbors was set on fire after the terrorists learned that the owner of the house worked at a state-run post office," he said.

For his part, Syrian Army soldier Ayham said that he now cannot wait to see a complete cleansing of Palmyra from the mines.

"It was a matter of honor for me to fight for my native city which is why I was eager to take part in the liberation of Palmyra. And now I'm happy to say that people can return to their liberated city," Ayham said.

On March 27, the Syrian Army, supported by militias and the Russian Aerospace Forces, recaptured the historic city, which had been under Daesh control for about a year.

The city of Palmyra and its historic ruins had been controlled by Daesh since May 2015.

The jihadist group, which is outlawed in many countries, including Russia and the United States, destroyed part of the ruins, which are a designated UNESCO World Heritage site.

Assad: Russia's Military Support Speeds Up Political Solution in Syria

http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20160329/1037158542/assad-sputnik-syria-success.html

Syrian Arab Army's success with Russia's support will speed political settlement in Syria, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told Sputnik in exclusive interview.

DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — Russian air support did not change the Syrian government's position in regard to political settlement and Damascus remains flexible at intra-Syrian talks, Syrian President Bashar Assad told Sputnik.

"We have not changed our position, not before the support from Russia nor after. We went to Geneva and continue to show flexibility. However, at the same time, these victories will affect the states and powers that are hindering the settlement, because these states in the first place — Saudi Arabia, Turkey, France and the United Kingdom — are counting on our defeat on the battlefield in order to impose their conditions at the negotiations. So these military actions and successes will lead to the acceleration of the political settlement, and not prevent it," Assad said.

According to the president, there are political players who accuse Syria and Russia of trying to derail the political process when trying to present Russia's actions in Syria as an intervention to support the president or the Syrian government, but this is not the case.

"Perhaps this could have been the case if we had not been flexible from the beginning, if we had really persisted. However, if [you] go back to the policy of the Syrian state five years ago, we responded to all the initiatives, without exception, coming from all sides, even if they were not friendly," he underscored.

"The goal is not to miss a single chance for settlement, without [first] trying it. That’s why I can briefly answer this question by saying that the Russian military support, the support provided by friends of Syria and the military achievements of the Syrian army — all this will lead to an acceleration of the political settlement, and not the opposite," Assad concluded.

The full text of Assad’s interview to Sputnik will be posted on the Sputnik website on March 30-31.

Europe’s Perfect Storm of Terrorism

http://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2016/03/29/europe-perfect-storm-of-terrorism.html

It seems paradoxical, just as Islamist terror brigades are being eradicated in Syria and Iraq, the threat of terrorist mayhem in Europe is gathering momentum.

Emergency meetings by European Union security chiefs last week following the Brussels attacks were given even more urgency by warnings from Europol that as many as 5,000 terrorist operatives were primed to bring war onto the streets of EU capitals.

There were also several arrests of terror suspects in France, Germany and Belgian, with one man shot by police in Brussels believed to be connected with the suicide attackers who struck the Belgian capital days earlier.

A report in the Washington Post noted: «As European governments scramble to control the expanding terrorist threat posed by the Islamic State, on the battlefields in Iraq and Syria the group is a rapidly diminishing force».

The Post attributes the defeats for the terrorist brigades to the military support afforded by Russia to the Syrian army and from the US to Iraqi forces. Advances against ISIS in the ancient city of Palmyra as well as in its eastern Syrian stronghold of Raqqa underscore the dramatic collapse of the terrorist self-proclaimed Caliph.

But, ironically, the gains made in Syria and Iraq against the jihadists are placing Europe at greater threat than at any time before.

The fact that the terrorists could strike last week in Brussels, the political heart of Europe – killing more than 30 people – underscores the danger. Furthermore, the Belgian capital is also the headquarters of the US-led NATO military alliance.

If terrorists can strike in this place – with one of the three explosions at a metro station shaking the foundations of the European Council’s building – it demonstrates that nowhere is beyond the terrorists’ reach.

In the aftermath of the Brussels bombings, security forces recovered more explosives at an apartment that had housed the suicide attackers. Six people have reportedly been arrested amid warnings that more terror assaults are likely.

Meanwhile, French interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve announced that an imminent terrorist attack had been foiled with the arrest of one man in the Paris suburb of Argenteuil.

There is indeed a foreboding sense of European authorities grappling with the scale of the problem.

The organizational links between the Brussels attackers and those who carried out the Paris atrocity in November, when 130 people were killed, shows that the EU has a serious cross-border security issue. The ease of movement by the terrorists is mismatched by the cumbersome liaison between state security services.

Brussels may have for now acquired the notoriety of «incubator of terrorism» in Europe. But there are indicators that terminating the Brussels cell will not bring a solution to Europe’s wider terror threat.

Europe is facing a «perfect storm» of terrorism due to several factors. One is that thousands of European citizens are known to have travelled to Syria and Iraq out of some misplaced notion of «fighting jihad» for the Islamic State’s self-professed Caliph. Over the past five years, these European jihadists have gained skills in bomb-making and weapons use. How many have returned to Europe is not known, but as Europol indicates it is probably in the order of several hundreds.

Proportional to population, Belgium has seen the biggest number of its citizens going to Syria and Iraq as mercenaries. But there also large numbers from France, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Netherlands, Britain and Germany.

Although EU countries have tightened border restrictions in recent months over the refugee crisis, the jihadists are mostly EU-born or naturalized citizens who are thus able to travel easily across the bloc owing to visa-free regulations.

Salah Abdeslam, the 26-year-old man who is believed to have orchestrated the Paris attacks but was arrested in Brussels on March 18, four days before the latest atrocity, is known to have previously travelled to Germany, Hungary and Austria along with others belonging to the Brussels cell. It can be assumed therefore that other jihadists have likewise coordinated between EU states.

Besides, apart from the hundreds of returning jihadists, there are plenty of terror recruits «at home» among Europe’s radicalized Muslim communities. While the vast majority of Arab-Muslim citizens living in Europe have nothing to do with radicalism, a tiny fraction out of several million people computes into several hundred potential jihadists.

The process of radicalization leading to terrorism is given full vent because many of Europe’s Muslim communities have been marginalized over many years through institutionalized racism and poverty. Deteriorating social conditions in the EU are by no means confined to Muslim communities. It is an EU-wide endemic problem for all citizens as economies systematically founder. But that malaise intersects sharply with other jihadist factors in Arab-Muslim communities.

Molenbeek, the suburb of Brussels, is a case in point. This is where the Paris and Brussels attacks were organized from. Molenbeek has a population of around 100,000 of which about half are Muslim of Arab descent with most of them from Morocco. Brussels has been described as the most Muslim city in Europe in proportion to the population. Many of its Arab citizens descend from workers who were brought to Belgium in the 1960s and 70s as cheap labor. But over the decades, future generations of these Arab people have become marginalized through chronic unemployment, which has in turn fueled alienation and resentment towards the authorities. Youth unemployment in Molenbeek is said to be as high as 40-50 per cent. In this stagnant milieu, recruitment to radical networks is made so much easier.

The same pattern can be seen in other European cities. The marginalization is worsened by recent years of unrelenting economic austerity which has driven up poverty and unemployment. This has produced a phenomenon of «states within states».

Another factor is that European governments have over many years welcomed financial donations from Saudi Arabia and Qatar for investment in sprawling ethnic Arab ghettoes. This has led to the building of mosques preaching a fundamentalist Salafist or Wahhabi version of Islam, which, in turn, feeds into terrorist recruitment. Belgian authorities welcomed donations from Saudi Arabia in a bid to lure cheap oil contracts from the Persian Gulf, while France courted billions of dollars from Qatar’s monarchial rulers, partly as a cost-cutting measure for French governments who felt that they could then withdraw public spending on its Arab-populated inner-city districts.

So we have large Arab-Muslim communities marginalized within the EU, influenced by fundamentalist ideology, and which have seen large numbers of their disaffected youth travel to places like Syria to become «blooded» in the craft of terrorism.

Of course, why these young jihadists have gone to Syria in the first place is because European governments targeted the country for regime change and poured weapons into militant groups to wage proxy war. Instead of resisting Washington’s policy of regime change in the Middle East, the Europeans went fully along with it.

As noted, Brussels may have taken the lead in the new front of jihadist terrorism in Europe. But there is every reason to believe that similar terror cells are incubating in several other EU states. As the jihadists witness the collapse of their hallowed self-declared caliphate in Syria and Iraq, it stands to reason that they would seek revenge within Europe.

One significant indicator is that one of the suicide bombers in the Brussels airport attack was Najim Laachraoui. He is said to have been the bomb-maker for the terror cell. His DNA was also found on bomb remains from the Paris massacre, although he was not personally involved in carrying out that attack. The question is: why would the terror group sacrifice their bomb-making expert in last week’s operation in Brussels? His fatal involvement in carrying out that attack could be a sign that the Molenbeek cell was under strain and lacking in volunteers. That might suggest that his death forecloses the capability of the jihadists to mount future bombings.

However, a more disturbing inference is that the Brussels cell is only one of many autonomous terror cells that are active in other European cities. If that is so, then the loss of the Brussels bomb-maker presents no big deal, from the terrorist point of view. And therefore that could be why he was permitted to join the suicide mission. Because, the logic goes, there are many more such cadres in other European locations with the same bomb-making expertise.

Europe’s porous borders for its citizens, including jihadist citizens, plus the inertia of security services, as the Belgian case starkly reveals, means that the bloc has an onerous task on its hands.

The disclosure by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan that Ankara sent back one of the Brussels bombers last year, due to «terror suspicions», to the Netherlands and then to Belgium, without any arrest in either of these jurisdictions, shows how vulnerable Europe is.

The implication is that European states, as with the Turkish authorities, have for too long turned a blind eye to jihadists crossing their borders because of their bigger geopolitical game to destabilize Syria.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov put his finger on the issue following the Brussels attack, when he denounced the EU for «playing geopolitical games» over terrorism. Syrian president Bashar al-Assad was also spot-on when he said that atrocities like Brussels and Paris are «inevitable» consequences of Europe’s covert intrigues against his country.

Far from dealing with isolated terrorist events, Europe is heading into a perfect storm of more carnage – a storm that it has largely created.

And, ultimately, European civilians are paying a macabre price for their governments’ culpability.

Israeli PM to visit Russia on April 21 — Haaretz

Earlier Putin said that Russia and Israel have a large number of questions to discuss regarding the development of bilateral trade and economic relations and some aspects of the regional security

TEL AVIV, March 29. /TASS/. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will discuss current Syrian developments with Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 21, Haaretz newspaper said on Tuesday.

On March 16, receiving Israeli President Reuven Rivlin in the Kremlin, Putin said that Russia and Israel "have a large number of questions to discuss linked with the development of bilateral trade and economic relations and some pressing aspects of the regional security."

"I hope that we’ll be able to discuss them in the short run with the Israeli prime minister with whom we have made arrangements for a meeting," Putin said back then.

The Russian president also said the relations with Israel were special and based "on friendship, mutual understanding and the long common history."

"Russia and Israel support relations of special importance primarily owing to the fact that 1.5 million Israeli citizens come from the former Soviet Union, they speak the Russian language, are the bearers of Russian culture, Russian mentality. They maintain relations with their relatives and friends in Russia, and this make the interstate relations very special", Putin said.

He also noted the growing number of Russian pilgrims traveling to the holy sites in Israel. "The Israeli government meets us halfway, returning to Russia the shrines highly valuable for us, and we are very grateful to our Israeli friends for this," the Russian president said.

Press Secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov is warning of impending journalistic smear against Putin.

Kremlin Warns of Impending "Information Spin" Against Putin
http://www.fort-russ.com/2016/03/kremlin-warns-of-impending-information.html

"Information spin" in the form of sensationalism is being preparing against Vladimir Putin, said Dmitry Peskov. According to him, it is about the President personally, his family, and the businessmen Kovalchuk and Rotenberg.

Press Secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that in the coming days "information spin" is expected against the Russian leadership, primarily President Vladimir Putin. "Information is being prepared in the coming days that claims objectivity and sensationalism," — said Peskov to journalists, RBC reports.

Peskov became aware of upcoming publications because of the requests that the Kremlin received from media representatives. "We received very unctuously-kind requests, made in an interrogation manner in fact", — said Peskov.

According to him, journalists from ICIJ are interested in information about the President. "This is about Putin personally, trying to reach his family, talking about childhood friends, about business (Kovalchuk, Rotenberg), about some offshore companies with businessmen who Putin has never seen. All of this is repetitive, in different variations, although the next repetition is being prepared," — said Peskov.

The President's spokesman called the upcoming material "blatant bribery", noting that the Kremlin respects "those genres of journalistic investigation". "It's about asking questions that have been asked already hundred times, and answers were given hundreds of times, which were legal, emotional and factual. We are not talking about the desire to engage in an objective investigation, but the task is to perform an information attack, to direct, to concoct, and implement an information agenda. We don't like it," explained Peskov.

What is ICIJ? ICIJ was founded in 1997 by American journalist Chuck Lewis as a project of the nonprofit organization "Center of Public Integrity". As is stated on the website of the organization, the objects of its investigations are "cross-border crime, corruption, and the responsibility of the government". The consortium is a "global network of more than 90 investigative journalists in more than 65 countries who collaborate in the work of deep investigative journalism".

ICIJ is the author of publications in which, in particular, the wife of the first Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov and businessman Gennady Timchenko appeared in. In April 2013, the consortium reported that it would publish information about the owners of offshore accounts. In particular, among them were the wife of Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, as well as "two high-ranking leaders" in "Gazprom". The organization claimed that these Russians held accounts in the British Virgin Islands, although all three refused to comment. In February 2015, the consortium found businessman Gennady Timchenko fell under the US sanctions in 2014, among Swiss clients of the Bank HSBC. The representative of the businessman then told the organization that Timchenko "always fully complied with all tax matters", and that sanctions against him were "far-fetched and deeply flawed".

Simultaneously with ICIJ, a "very well known international news agency" is preparing a publication, added Peskov. "We're talking about some of the statements made by the project on informing about organized crime and corruption, which are rehashed from Putin with businessmen, providing businessmen with government contracts, and the enrichment of businessmen at the expense of Putin," — said Peskov. "We took specific initiatives to aim to announce our opinion concerning these kinds of questions".

The Press Secretary of the President listed the issues that the agency wanted to ask Putin: "Is it true that your accumulated amount is over $40 billion, is it true that you own the huge mansions, mega-yachts, and other assets. It is argued that Putin maintains a close relationship with Sergei Roldugin (Russian cellist, who the media calls a friend of Putin and is a shareholder of the Bank "Russia"), and it is reported that he is doing business that this is directly related to the President, and that this is nothing more than presidential fraud."

"Judging by the questions, there is a claim that Putin is in some way associated or has interests in companies" — said Peskov. He stated that these questions would not be answered in the Kremlin. "Of course, we are not going to respond to such requests. We repeat every time: no, no, no, but to tell them it that has no relation to us, it would be stupid. So yes, we will not answer," — said Peskov.

"We are sure that not only journalists, but also representatives of other organizations and services that are gathering in Germany, US, UK, Switzerland, France, Russia, and in several other countries, and will publish in the next few days the next opus," continued Peskov. The Kremlin has not excluded the possibility of not filing a lawsuit on the media in case false information discrediting the President is published, stressed the spokesman."Of course, if any distortion, any lie, and any unfounded allegations would relate personally to the head of state, then we have a whole arsenal of legal means, both nationally and internationally, to protect the honor and dignity of our President", — he said.

In 2015, Peskov once denied a publication in the media before its was made public, calling it an "information attack". The President's Press Secretary told journalists that the Kremlin received queries from "a reputable London newspaper" and some of the American outlets. One media agency, he said, sent a set of 21 questions "in the style of a "Prosecution's questioning" about direct or indirect linkage to the activities between the businessman Gennady Timchenko and Putin. In particular, journalists were interested in whether Putin, directly or indirectly, had approved a loan of a 20th trust to Gunvor, and discussed whether Putin and Timchenko, during business issues in the 90's, helped him to build a cottage on a "Lake", as well as cooperation on a number of other issues.

The answer is no to all the media's questions, Peskov told reporters. He called the queries evidence that "there are still many who want to attack our country and members of our leadership with informational spin, and they are not afraid of getting their hands dirty."

The day afterwards, the former St. Petersburg businessman Maxim Freidson told "Radio Liberty" about the participation of Vladimir Putin in corruption schemes in the 1990's in St. Petersburg. Text conversations with Freidson were published on May 23nd, but were later deleted. "The post was removed at the request of the "Radio Liberty" interviewee, who feared for his safety. Sorry about that", — stated the message on the page of the radio station's website where the interview was placed.

This article goes into some detail explaining how the militias armed through both the CIA and the Pentagon are now fighting - each other on the Syrian battlefield?

In Syria, militias armed by the Pentagon fight those armed by the CIA
http://novorossia.today/in-syria-militias-armed-by-the-pentagon-fight-those-armed-by-the-cia/

Syrian militias armed by different parts of the U.S. war machine have begun to fight each other on the plains between the besieged city of Aleppo and the Turkish border, highlighting how little control U.S. intelligence officers and military planners have over the groups they have financed and trained in the bitter five-year-old civil war.

The fighting has intensified over the last two months as CIA-armed units and Pentagon-armed ones have repeatedly shot at each other while maneuvering through contested territory on the northern outskirts of Aleppo, U.S. officials and rebel leaders have confirmed.

In mid-February, a CIA-armed militia called Fursan al Haq, or Knights of Righteousness, was run out of the town of Marea, about 20 miles north of Aleppo, by Pentagon-backed Syrian Democratic Forces moving in from Kurdish-controlled areas to the east.

“Any faction that attacks us, regardless from where it gets its support, we will fight it,” Maj. Fares Bayoush, a leader of Fursan al Haq, said in an interview.

Rebel fighters described similar clashes in the town of Azaz, a key transit point for fighters and supplies between Aleppo and the Turkish border, and on March 3 in the Aleppo neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsud.

The attacks by one U.S.-backed group against another come amid continued heavy fighting in Syria and illustrate the difficulty facing U.S. efforts to coordinate among dozens of armed groups that are trying to overthrow the government of President Bashar Assad, fight the Islamic State militant group and battle one another all at the same time.

“It is an enormous challenge,” said Rep.Adam Schiff (D-Burbank), the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, who described the clashes between U.S.-supported groups as “a fairly new phenomenon.”

President Obama this month authorized a new Pentagon plan to train and arm Syrian rebel fighters, relaunching a program that was suspended in the fall after a string of embarrassing setbacks which included recruits being ambushed and handing over much of their U.S.-issued ammunition and trucks to an Al Qaeda affiliate.

Amid the setbacks, the Pentagon late last year deployed about 50 special operations forces to Kurdish-held areas in northeastern Syria to better coordinate with local militias and help ensure U.S.-backed rebel groups aren’t fighting one another. But such skirmishes have become routine.

Last year, the Pentagon helped create a new military coalition, the Syrian Democratic Forces. The goal was to arm the group and prepare it to take territory away from the Islamic State in eastern Syria and to provide information for U.S. airstrikes.

The group is dominated by Kurdish outfits known as People’s Protection Units or YPG. A few Arab units have joined the force in order to prevent it from looking like an invading Kurdish army, and it has received air-drops of weapons and supplies and assistance from U.S. Special Forces.

Gen. Joseph Votel, now commander of U.S. Special Operations Command and the incoming head of Central Command, said this month that about 80% of the fighters in the Syrian Democratic Forces were Kurdish. The U.S. backing for a heavily Kurdish armed force has been a point of tension with the Turkish government, which has a long history of crushing Kurdish rebellions and doesn’t want to see Kurdish units control more of its southern border.

The CIA, meanwhile, has its own operations center inside Turkey from which it has been directing aid to rebel groups in Syria, providing them with TOW antitank missiles from Saudi Arabian weapons stockpiles.

While the Pentagon’s actions are part of an overt effort by the U.S. and its allies against Islamic State, the CIA’s backing of militias is part of a separate covert U.S. effort aimed at keeping pressure on the Assad government in hopes of prodding the Syrian leader to the negotiating table.

At first, the two different sets of fighters were primarily operating in widely separated areas of Syria — the Pentagon-backed Syrian Democratic Forces in the northeastern part of the country and the CIA-backed groups farther west. But over the last several months, Russian airstrikes against anti-Assad fighters in northwestern Syria have weakened them. That created an opening which allowed the Kurdish-led groups to expand their zone of control to the outskirts of Aleppo, bringing them into more frequent conflict with the CIA-backed outfits. WASHINGTON – D.C. police and fire officials are responding to a report of shots fired at the Capitol Visitor Center at the U.S. Capitol complex, according to authorities.…

The person believed to be the gunman has been shot by police, according to two D.C. police officials. He was taken to Washington Hospital Center.

An email sent to U.S. Senate staff says “gunshots have been reported” and asked workers to shelter in place. The White House also was placed on lockdown.

“There has been an isolated incident at the U.S. Capitol Center,” D.C. police tweeted. “There is no active threat to the public.”
The visitor’s center is an underground complex located east of the Capitol building. All visitors are screened through metal detectors as they enter the facility.

EARLIER ~ A police officer was shot and wounded in the US Capitol complex and the gunman captured, a source citing information from the Sergeant-at-Arms office in Congress says.

Gunshots were heard in the US Capitol Visitors Center and workers were told to shelter and there was confusion in early accounts about what occurred.

The source said the officer’s wounds were not serious.

A US Capitol Police officer, who asked not to be identified, said that the suspected shooter was being transported to hospital.

The officer did not identify or describe the suspect and he added that there were no additional suspects.

Congress is in recess, with few lawmakers in Washington but the shooting happened just a few hours after a drill for an active shooter took place at the Capitol, creating further confusion.

Cathryn Leff a licensed therapist, tweeted that she was at the visitor’s center when she heard gunshots while going through a security check point.

“That moment when it goes down . Everyone is screaming & running and you can’t see where the shots fired‪ are from,” tweeted Leff(@Cathrynlefflmft).

The Secret Service temporarily cleared tourists from an area surrounding the White House after the incident, but activities quickly went back to normal.

So we are forewarned to counter that nonsense far and wide via social media and other areas... :v:
That goes to show again how really desperate the western psycho elites are, to take Putin down and smear him in every way they can.

Here is a short clip of what Belarus president Lukashenko had to say, way back in 2012, about the west and syria and what will follow:

President of Belarus Lukashenko talks about Syria:

Now wonder the western/european media paint Lukashenko, for years now, as the "last dictator in europe"...
He likes and supports Putin very much on top of that. The western elites do not like that at all, of course...
