I just don't think it can be more obvious:

safe zone - a neutral territory possessing no hostile energies.

Aleppo is along the Turkish-Syrian border, losing ANY position along the border would cut ISIS off from their supply line coming in from Turkey
Turkey is aware that it IS the main supply-line for ISIS, it just seems ridiculous that they would even ASK for a safe-zone, (especially considering the new commands) under ANY guise, when it's obvious that it would serve to benefit ISIS.
Luckily their window of opportunity is closed, since Russian warplanes will now be within striking at distance of the border, with troops and artillery on the ground, so it's too late to ask for a safe-zone. (But can you imagine is they actually did get it?!)
Thank. You. Russia.

The victory was announced just hours after Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said in an interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour that Turkey would be willing to invade Syria as long as Washington agreed to provide air support, create a safe zone along the Syrian-Turkish border, and remove Syrian President Bashar al Assad.

A top Saudi commander of the Al-Nusra Front - Al-Qaeda's official branch in Syria - urged all militant groups across Syria to leave their positions for Aleppo, warning that the strategic territory near the border with Turkey will soon be completely lost if thousands of fresh forces do not join them in coming days.
