I watched a segment on Working Dogs one day and it was about the "Beagle Brigade" (they looked so cute walking into the airport with their little coats on). They said that beagles have really good noses for sniffing out things, but the beagles only really wanted to sniff out FOOD. :D So that is what they are used for at the airports. They are so cute.
Yup, they're adorable, VERY efficient, and having laws against transporting certain foods, especially fruits, from region to region makes good sense considering all the fungi, bugs, diseases, etc. floating around.
Guardian, I agree that dogs and pot bellied pigs are so much more appealing than the normal "pigs" at the airport, and they do a better job, but I'm afraid that this is not on the agenda of those in control. :( They are pushing for something much less cute and effective. They are pushing for control, so anything that could actually help keep airports safe is out. They want us afraid and hysteric so that they can control us better.
I know....but what if they had to publicly explain WHY they don't use dogs to VERY angry people standing in line waiting to be groped...day after day? There is massive resistance to the porn scanners and groping, but people are buying the "we want to be safe from terrorists" line because they seem to believe that there is no other way to keep the mostly imaginary explosives off the planes. I've not seen dogs even mentioned as an alternative anywhere in the msm?
Frankly, I'm MUCH more concerned about a foreign beetle in someone's banana getting into our orchards, but if the masses need a sense of security due to all the "terrorist" programing....why not give it to them, in the form of cute animals? At least plant the idea, water it a bit, and see if it grows?
Creating awareness about a problem is not enough...people need a viable solution to rally around....and it never hurts if the solution is cute and cuddly.
I've got an idea that been chasing itself around my head for a couple weeks now. It's kinda large for me...waaaaayyyyy bigger than my usual regional/community type actions, but as angry as fliers are going to be after this holiday season, it just might work.
Ya think even a small group of people protesting with creative signs, pigs and pups ... just outside the entrance to a national airport would get some media attention? Of course I'd have to all the usual background and lead-up stuff.. website, permits, maybe a billboard or two...those worked REAL well.
The TSA has based their entire defense of these HORRIBLE violations of human dignity on one thing, and one thing only...the "need for security" We could publicly PROVE that dogs and pigs can do a better job at providing that security right outside their front gates.
There are thousands of people already on the TWA protest pages....I bet I could get quite a few of them to help? The guy who made the scanners has enemies too... I have no idea who they are yet, but I could find out and there's our political sponsors.
It would take a LOT of work...but it is a double hitter, we get to help people and critters at the same time. I know it's a long shot, but practically everything I do is...so why should that stop me from trying?
We need some slogans... :P
I prefer to have the 4 legged pig sniff my junk.
Airport security needs to go to the dogs.....it would be a great improvement.
When a TSA Agent rubs against your crouch and starts to pant and wiggle, it's sexual assault. When a TSA dog does it, it's "Hi, nice to met ya."
We don't have to trade our dignity for safety, 'cause Creator gave us dogs.
Your child can't get skin cancer from petting a puppy.
...any suggestions?
