I have not watched this movie but have seen trailers and thought the premise was interesting. It seems like one of those movies put out to make people think a certain way, and the time of release is interesting too - with everything that's going on in the world. I wonder how they're going to go about the story and how people handle "the end of the world".

I have not watched this movie but have seen trailers and thought the premise was interesting. It seems like one of those movies put out to make people think a certain way, and the time of release is interesting too - with everything that's going on in the world. I wonder how they're going to go about the story and how people handle "the end of the world".

Have not seen it but I also saw the trailer last week when I was in the theater for "Rock of Ages" (which I thought was great! Took me right back to those hair metal days of the 80s! ).

I got the chance to watch this last night. It was an "okay" movie, but not great.

The film starts with the announcement about the NASA mission to destroy the asteroid named Matilda, which is on a collision course with Earth. It failed. While the main character, Dodge (Steve Carell), was listening to the radio, his wife ran away from him. Life on Earth has three weeks until impact, when all of humanity would be wiped out. Of course, during the entire film, you never got to see the asteroid.

It seems to be about the friendship developing between Dodge and his neighbor Penny (played by Keira Knightley), during their journey (meeting strange people, place to place, etc.), and they then turned into a romantic couple themselves in the end.

In regards to how people handle "the end of the world," there were people still working at their jobs and some took it very seriously (for example, there was a police officer who stopped the duo on the road and took them to jail for speeding, broken taillight, etc. in a hope to meet his quota). And, there is that "suicide" thing going on, such as people jumping off the buildings and hiring people to kill them (there was even an ad showing "Assassins Needed" on the wall). Riots were breaking out. All planes were grounded.

There were some whom stayed with their families and some trying to get to their families. Almost everyone in the film was dealing with this apocalypse problem in their own way.

There was a scene where Dodge was trying to drink himself to death in the park with a window cleaner, he woke up the next day with a little dog tied to him and a note left on his shirt, saying "Sorry," which became the dog's name. Who would abandon that cute little dog?

Anyway, they said that this film is a comedy-drama, but it's more romantic-drama. It felt more serious than a "ha-ha."
