there is a graph of Hormesis effect from a small dose. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this graph remind one of a human heart beat with the small blip just before the major blip?
 
The key is not to let yourself get burned. Start with a small amount of exposure and slowly increase. Having a tan is like natural sunblock.
