Sign of the times?

I also feel this way looking at these glasses.
They certainly (in my eyes) look very assertive - which is another way of writing 'acceptable aggressive behaviour'.
What happened to the big round googly specs that people used to wear? With their big innocent smiles?

I know that (for me) any extra features around the face or head make me feel uncomfortable - probably linked to my childhood.
I see it as people trying to hide something. Looking at todays fashion, i dont think its all my issue though.
Head-wear like baseball caps (Im really suprised there isnt a thread on baseball caps alone) are increasingly popular.
I detest baseball caps and the image (again, just my perception - and i could be irrational) they give off.

And its becoming more and more cool for people to hide more and more of their face, which to me is a 'sign of the times' in society and how people hide so much more of their real self (and emotions) and play this fake lie of a game they have been entered into.

Same with guys that wear jeans hanging off their arse. The media is a powerful tool (as we on here all know). Do these guys know that this 'trend' comes from american prisons, and is a prison-code way of saying "Hey im up for some fun with another man today/tonight".
A pretty good example of brainwashing imo.

There exists a study about glasses "The effect of wearing glasses upon judgments of personality traits of persons seen briefly." by Thornton unfortunately not freely available.

Abstract from study said:
Subjects were rated in person and from photographic slides for several personality traits. In viewing the slides, judges tended to evaluate subjects wearing glasses as "more intelligent, more industrious, more honest, and more dependable." The same general results were obtained when subjects appeared in person, except that they were not judged more honest. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)

Actually wearing more squarish frames are considered to be more intelligent.

If you choose frameless glasses you can design yourself the shape of your lenses;that's what my optician has proposed me because,as you,I disliked square glasses and I did draw mine although I'm not entirely satisfied yet!Everything is possible then even big Lennon's style ;D

Does my head look small in these? :P

^ lol.

One thing ive noticed is that camo gear has become very popular with fisherman in england, (as its the the most popular past-time here) - what better way to get a large part of the population thinking 'war is cool'.
Is pretty funny watching someone going fishing, looking like they are S.A.S soldiers dropping out of an aircraft behind enemy lines - just to catch a 7lb carp from a pond.
Sillyness doesnt describe it imo.

I like big glasses. I figure if I'm going to have to look through them, I want the biggest field of view I can get. Unfortunately, big glasses are "out" and I can't find anything I like in the optometrist's shop. Very frustrating.

Actually big glasses are IN! And will never go out of style trust me, I'm a fashion stylist, and even if stores and manufactures say "Oh big glasses are so OUT" it is totally they trying to sell you their new cheap little models! Here are some web sites where you can find big ones, even retro inspired and vintage models.

FWIW, I'm with EVGV on this one! Big glasses are having a come back (to me, they were never out of style). The choice is much larger for sunglasses though. Lots of people simply take sunglasses frames and have them kitted with their prescription glasses. In France and Belgium, these last few years, the Ray Ban Wayfarer (which are normally sunglasses) with prescription glasses have been all the rage, for example. They give a Buddy Holly look. But there's plenty to choose from and it's über trendy
