sluggish liver and other problems

A Disturbance in the Force
Hi,
i'm new to this forum so i'll give a short introduction of myself. I'm a 30 year old single male from Holland. I have had health problems for pretty much most of my life, varying in severity, maybe also because i'm a very sensitive person.

When I was 25 I was very depressed for a year or so. In that time I was told to take antidepressants, which I did for pretty much a whole year. When I was 27 I got a bad streptococcus infection in my jaws. I took antibiotics for about 3 months and was very sick. I also have a history of EBV or Pfeiffer and CMV.

Both meds didnt cure me, I just had to find out that the problem was actually my liver. It's sluggish and remains sluggish, even after about 25 liver cleanses in the past 2-3 years.

In the meantime I found out I am B12 deficient. For 3 months I have been taking huge doses of B12: sublingual methylcobalamin (30 mg a day), dibencozide (26 mg a day) and folic acid (1,6 mg a day). As advised by my health practitioner, who is actually a doctor.

I also take super enzymes, 30mg zinc and some B6, taurine, biotin and magnesium everyday.

At the moment I am having problems with what seems to be my spleen (pain left just below ribs), my liver (always big and upset)and my pancreas (sugar problems). The whole digestion just doesnt move. I eat pretty healthy, almost no sugar, dairy and wheat. I do drink something every week, sometimes too much.

I also feel pain in the lower right part of my belly, close to the side of my body. Does anyone have an idea what that could be? I'm thinking it's my large intestine thats having problems to digest the food when everything is so clogged up.

Is it also possible that the stones have entered the pancreas, given the pain on the left side of the ribs?

Loads of questions and uncertainties, i'm just trying to find a way to live a 'normal' life. Thanks for helping me out!

Hello wolterdh, and welcome to the forum!

Regarding your health issues, I'm curious what your diet is. Have you heard of the gluten- and diary-free diet, low-carbohydrate diet and the Ketogenic Diet? Not just "almost"-gluten-free and "almost"-diary-free but being very strict about it, meaning ZERO of it?

Edit:

Some people are like "canaries in the mine" regarding gluten, diary and carbohydrates, meaning that even small amounts can literally ruin their health.

Hi Data,

thanks for the welcome!
I have heard of the diet and I tried to keep it for a while in may this year. Right now i'm avoiding gluten and dairy as much as i can, but ive never had anyone telling me i should, even after numerous visits and checks (MRI, echoes, blood tests, camera's inside me :) )

The problem is that i dont know where this problem starts. Can it be that my liver is clogged because of intestinal problems or is it because of a problem in the liver? Right now i'm done with hospitals and doctors as they won't be able to help me other than trying loads of chemical medicine.

Is it wise to try this diet anyway?

I think it's wise to gently ween yourself off carbs as much as you can. Obviously going entirely carb free is very hard, if not impossible as it involves eating practically no plant matter - not even salsa or green chile or anything of the sort. I think, and I hope others will correct me if I am wrong, is that you need to be very "choosy" when it comes to what carbs you do eat. For me for example, coconut milk is a staple of my diet, sugar free, sweetened with stevia, would be hard to quit as it's very hard to have nothing to drink but water or stevia-flavored water. But, it includes a good amount of saturated fat and MFC, so there is a bit of a +/- gain there. I think the big thing is to proceed slowly, and I would recommend working on quitting the drinking, as it has no potential health benefits. The C's did state, to Ark, that a shot of whisky is beneficial, but whether that applies to you is something you would have to research and experiment with.

So to be short, you would want to start by reading the Ketogenic Diet - Path To Transformation? thread before making any serious changes to your diet, and the books recommend therein.
