Smalltooth Sand Tiger Shark Washes Up on Hampshire Beach

A Smalltooth Sand Tiger Shark was spotted in the Solent a few days before. It was then found in trouble on a beach where a woman attempted a rescue. It was then found dead on Lepe Beach the next day:


It is believed to be the first time this species of shark has been recorded in the UK.

The behaviour of the locals is also interesting, first in not attempting to help the shark (although they may not have known exactly what it was/how dangerous it was), and then, when the carcass was found, it has the head and fins cut off before it could be retrieved/examined...
