Solar eclipse to plunge Britain into darkness

The Living Force
The moon will pass in front of the sun on Friday, March 20, casting a large shadow over the Earth.

Solar eclipse next March threatens Europe solar grid, temp ‘may drop 6C in 30 minutes

Just curious, what temperature drops are possible in case of lasting darkening of skies, like we used to see under heavy winter clouds for a couple of days in the past, only longer in a theoretical scenario?

Also I have the feeling that this eclipse might lower the natural realm-border defenses of Earth and a cyclone-sized negative intelligent power, usually dealing with large area-of-effects, might use this opportunity and worm its way in to cause a "breaking news" category event.

I've seen partial eclipse in Ireland a long time ago it's a bit spooky but doesn't seem to last that long,

partial eclipse will last for around two hours and will be visible across Europe.
from the article I wouldn't imagine it would last that long, though I wonder if this is calculated for the complete transit.

When i was a kid i remember one partial eclipse like this. It was mid summer and there were rumors among people that during eclipse its very dangerous to be outside and look at it. The streets were empty and all windows closed.
So i and few my friends took a welding mask and have nice position outside and watched the eclipse trou that welding mask.
It was very unusual and interesting. I cant understand why people think its dangerous.
How can temperature drop 6C in 30 mins l just because of the shadow of the moon. I think its not possible.
Its just interesting natural phenomenon that happens regularly and there is no need to be scared of it.

I too remember a full solar eclipse, when I was ~8 years old. It was summer, so the temperature drop was welcome and it got so dark on the school yard.

All I recall was the silence - no birds were singing. Other than that, the rest of animals continued to graze, a bit of shade went through the surroundings.

lilies,

The second link has a mention about the length of the event saying:

The eclipse is expected on the morning of March 20, 2015. For roughly an hour, direct sunlight will be blocked over Norway and other northern European states. For roughly an hour and a half, it will be visible in other parts of Europe and North Africa.

So it will be about an hour and a half at the most. But they are more worried about the shortness of the event it seems because they think the off/on effect might damage the solar sources being used. I guess kind of like an on/off switch effect that is too sudden.

As far as your idea:

Also I have the feeling that this eclipse might lower the natural realm-border defenses of Earth and a cyclone-sized negative intelligent power, usually dealing with large area-of-effects, might use this opportunity and worm its way in to cause a "breaking news" category event.

Who am I to say it might not be a part of the equation? The C's do mention that the confrontation of dark/light or STS/STO often display as weather to us.

Eclipses are mysterious. I can understand the fear of some people. It is like that suddenly people take conscience of something, that the sun is important, the moon also. I remember a solar eclipse many years ago, the light was so strange, and the birds went to sleep. If you want to read a very beautiful description of a solar eclipse Virginia Woolf wrote about one, in her diary, vol. 3. She tells how suddenly the people went silent, like in a sort of trance. The gray taking form, a sort of solitude in front of a mystery, a surprise, a moment of awareness. Then little by little the light comes, the life also. The ordinary comes back.

Maybe the PTB will do something during the eclipse?

March 20 comes to a solar eclipse, this is a link that talks about how, where if parts of the world to be seen, for how long and other information.

Thanks for that casper!

Hopefully it will be clear skies for this amazing event! Thinking about some of the ancient civilisations and the importance they placed on the sun, I might practice some POTS :)

For those in Europe, here is a map (time in UT) _http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEplot/SEplot2001/SE2015Mar20T.GIF

A total solar eclipse on Friday morning will be best seen from the Faeroe Islands Svalbard in the Arctic Ocean
However, with the eclipse will mark Friday and the spring equinox, or equinox. This is the moment in which the Sun in its apparent annual movement of the sky arrives at the celestial equator, and day and night last for 12 hours.
The moon will also be on Friday at perigee, or there will be closest to Earth. This means that it will be higher than usual, but as a young moon he will not see.

How to safely monitor the eclipse? :)

Quote:
In any case, what we must not do is to look directly at the sun as it can damage the retina. Sunglasses are also not enough protection. Glasses for viewing the eclipse are equipped with filters to safely view the moon passing in front of the sun. But if you will not find in any of the stores, ultimately you can serve and welding mask, but marked DIN 13, which means the level of protection. It is often suggested and smoky glass, but this is not recommended because the thickness of this layer can not control and is removable.
Similarly, you can make and binoculars, so that the butt is turned toward the sun, and the thinner the paper on which you should see the Moon passing in front of the sun. Never look at the sun through a telescope. Even if you use glasses with filters, look toward the sun just a few seconds and then rest your eyes. The eclipse will last long enough for you to enjoy in it.

Create projection system with the help of paper or paperboard. On a sheet of paper with a pin drill a tiny hole and hold it above the other at a sufficient distance. On it you should see a mirror image of the sun passing through the hole. The same image can be projected on another surface such as a wall. Similar systems projection of sunlight can create a variety of ways, and one is, and with the help of a metal strainer. His tiny holes should also be able to serve as the paper.

Yeah i'm looking forward to it, should be able to see it from 8 in the morning, just before I leave for work. I've used the binocular trick before and it work's quite well.
