Fireball over Galicia, on the 18th, translated:

A fireball is sighted from different points in the south of Galicia

The region of Pontevedra has witnessed the passage, about 19.30 hours, of a large fireball in the sky that left a large trail that was visible for several minutes while it was getting dark.

The object, which according to the first hypotheses could be some kind of meteorite, moved through the south of the province and was visible from different points, such as Bueu, Cerdedo-Cotobade, Ponte Caldelas, the city of Pontevedra and also the areas closest to the coast, in whose horizon it was lost.

The main initial hypothesis is that it could be a bolide, that is, a "mass of cosmic matter of appreciable dimensions to the naked eye, which quickly crosses the atmosphere with the appearance of a flaming balloon and usually bursts and breaks into pieces". Something that would support this theory is the duration of the wake left behind, which could be photographed from all corners of the province.

Thus, according to the theory, "the luminous furrow that it leaves in its path through the atmosphere persists for more than tens of seconds and can last for several minutes or even half an hour".

When Nate Phinney packed up his ice fishing gear in Watertown, South Dakota and set out for a nearby lake on Feb. 9, he wasn’t expecting the scene he found when he arrived — some 1,000 to 1,500 dead snow geese piled up and frozen into the lake’s surface. The carnage that he filmed at the scene was jarring enough to amass millions of views on social media.

Phinney has been fishing and hunting in this area for years, and the sight of dead birds frozen into the water wasn’t exactly a new one, he tells Outdoor Life.
