Source Code

I saw today a good movie "Source Code" from this year.

_http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0945513/

An action thriller centered on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown man and discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train.

I saw this movie the other night and I thought it was a pretty interesting movie. I liked it.

SPOILER ALERT

It talked about quantum theory/alternate realities and other things that I thought were really interesting.
It had a pretty 'happy' ending, depending on your point of view - but I couldn't help but think about what was actually happening to Shawn's soul every time Colter Stevens would 'posses' his body. So in the end I thought it was in a way somewhat of a hostile possession of the body, and thought about how the girl friend would never know that her boy friend actually became another individual and thought that was kind of messed up.

But I think as always, I think too much into things. For general sci-fi lovers I think this movie was pretty cool. ;)

I had the same thoughts about what happened to the original owner of that body, it did seem like an involuntary takeover. The movie seemed to imply that the source code was a cycle that involved Colter Stevens preventing tragedy and then continuing to live on in another's body.

Wasn't he looking at his own image in that mirror at the end though? (standing next to the girl)

Saw it yesterday!

Even if you had multiple occasions to fix your own life, you've got only one right choice to make to find the solution :cool2:

Hmm I thought he was seeing his reflection as himself, but he was really Shawn. I remember the guy that was standing beside the girl was the actor that played Shawn. So I picked it up as Colter basically taking over Shawn's body.

*edit for clarity*

I really try to avoid getting into these discussions about movies - since they're movies - but I did happen to see this one and I think you are all missing the fact that the Shawn person was already dead. His soul had already been released, so the soldier guy wasn't taking over his body in any real sense. This all happened within software. The point of him starting a new life with the woman was that his consciousness continued to exist within the source code and created all of that - which basically appeared to create another timeline of reality, but only within that source code. Shawn's soul was released from his body long before the soldier entered the source code. From within that other source code timeline, he could, however, interact (electronically) with the main reality (via a text message) - which was the twist.

So - I don't think discussing whether he took over the other guy's body makes much sense, since the other guy was already dead in the main reality and all other realities only took place within the software. The twist was the consciousness within that software (which is rather like it having attracted a faint soul imprint, I suppose) that continued to exist electronically, in its own timeline. At least, this was my take on it.

Very interesting movie, watched it the other night.

There was something I was wondering about, is it true that our brain retains like an "imprint" of an x amount of time (8 minutes) when we die? Or was this just like science-fiction, a supposition?

It would be amazing if it would indeed be possible to access this portion of information somehow...

Obviously, I realize it's a movie and most of it has to be taken with a grain of salt, however I was very intrigued by the concept of source code -> quantum physics
