I saw this story on Yahoo and took a look at the photo gallery located on the left

Picture #17 (link below) had a black shape right smack in the middle of the picture. Reminded me of the things I made in Art class in elementary school where a piece of paper is folded and cuts made on the seam and other places and then unfolded to produce a symetrical layout.
No idea what this could be. Someone holding it over the camera, camera malfuction...?
