Re: What is this?

There are some similar videos on this thread

Its probably some kind of a plasma discharge.

More of this phenomenon and possible explanation see here: Strange light phenomena in the sky / 'shining moving clouds' http://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php/topic,38741.msg584198.html#msg584198

Dutchsinse claims on FB: "happened directly above the NEXRAD RADAR transmitter just Due West of Greenwood Indiana! NEXRAD here: 39 42 27 N , 086 16 49 W"

NEXRAD are S-Band (2 to 4 GHz) Doppler radars.

Anyone have an explanation how that could have played into this phenomena?

Re: What is this?

On IPOD page (NASA related) there is an explanation regarding the above video:

"In sum, this hypothesis holds that a lightning discharge in a thundercloud can temporarily change the electric field above the cloud where charged ice crystals were reflecting sunlight. The new electric field quickly re-orients the geometric crystals to a new orientation that reflects sunlight differently. In other words, a lightning discharge can cause a sundog to jump. Soon, the old electric field may be restored, causing the ice crystals to return to their original orientation".

Recently saw another video, also highly unusual , and i am not sure if the same explanation could be applied, but it seems something related to ice cristals ...
