Stunning Mirage Claimed In China

It looks real, and I have never seen a thing like that.

ITN, a broadcast network in Britain, posted video last week of a stunning mirage in East China that features a city skyline, replete with what appear to be buildings and trees.

Video-curation site Devour.com writes the mirage appeared over the Xin'an River in East China.

ITN is the only news network to report on it, although MSN UK picked up the video.

This is not the first time mirages like this, which Devour calls superior mirages, have been reported in China. In 2006, China Daily, an English language newspaper, posted four images of what it said were mirages off the coast of Eastern China's Shandong province.

Someone has an explanation ?

Bleed-through from another dimension would be my guess. I couldn't tell they were mirages from the video, they looked real. They should have juxtaposed the video with images of what the river normally looked like so naive eyes could see the difference.

I agree, it would have been nice to see what it looks like with and without the mirage. To me it just looks like more of the city with the shoreline surrounded in fog. If it's real, then it's most impressive.

Yep, hard to tell not knowing how it usually looks. The image highlighted by Huffington post looks to be a building with a lot of antennas though - or lots of some sort of long, thin, upwardly protruding things used for something... ;)

wow :wow: that's really impressive if it is true !

isn't there a phenomena called "Fata Morgana" that could explain this ?
I think I heared that a "Fata Morgana" is a actual image from another part of the world reflecting through the athmosphere ?
or something like this ?
even do the "Fata Morganas" that I saw didn't look tha clear on every part ? I also would think that "Fata Morganas" only come
in a very dry are like a desert?

Edit: wait I think I saw a video with the same area without this "image".
I'll post it if I find it

The buildings are real, I found this video on YouTube describing a blog post from a fellow that went on a boat ride and photographed the structures. Don't know how to attach photos so here is the link instead.

The blog post where picture is found.

Seems that the residents were interested in the 'mirage' because it Appeared to be floating on the water, with the mist below it creating the effect.

darn I didn't found it

I ried to find pictures witthout the Mirage but it is really hard to find a fix point
they are telling that some (all ?) trees you see in the river are from the Mirage too ?
I mean look at it that would be a marvelousness "illiusion" !

Edit: I searched with "Huangshan City Xinan River Bridge "
maybe someone can find pictures with this data.
the bridge parapet in a picture could be a fix point for comparison

My guess is that since it was after a heavy downpour, that the river has flooded that bank of trees, covering the ground. I say this because after looking at google earth pictures of the area, you can see trees next to a bridge on the edge of the river, I'm not sure if it's the right bridge, but its a possibility that it's the right one.

I've looked it up on google maps and I think that those trees near the bridge are
flooded in the video footage too. when you compare it from the viewpoint of the bridge
that would fit.
I tied to find the building on the island that is mentioned in your post, maybe it's the biggest building you can see there on the island but I'm not sure if that fits.

so I guess the so called Mirage is a hoax

Thousands of tourists and local residents witnessed a mirage of high clarity lasting for four hours off the shore of Penglai City in east China's Shandong Province on Sunday.

Mists rising on the shore created an image of a city, with modern high-rise buildings, broad city streets and bustling cars as well as crowds of people all clearly visible.

The city of Penglai had been soaked by two days of rain before the rare weather phenomenon occurred.

The mirage took place during the week-long Labor Day holiday. The small city received over 30,000 tourists on Sunday.

Experts said that many mirages have been recorded in Penglai, on the tip of Shandong Peninsula, throughout history, which made it known as a dwelling place of the gods.

They explained that a mirage is formed when moisture in the air becomes warmer than the temperature of sea water, which refracts rays of sunlight to create reflections of the landscape in the sky.

What I can't understand is who started this nonsense and why did ITN carry it? It's fog on a river with a background of building and trees. Is that meant to be strange? Why would anyone familiar or not with the area think it was a 'mirage' rather than fog on a river??

I don't know anything about this but the first photos look like a holographic projection. A technique that could be used to fake an alien invasion.

Either it's just news for news sake, with shoddy research and ignorance of the facts, or possibly it's being fed to us as a 'primer' for bigger things down the line. As if we should be expecting strange things in the future OSIT

Well if you read the article I posted above, the phenomenon seems to be quite known and not new at all.
