Surprising JK Rowling Harvard Commencement Speech

Thanks for posting the video Pob! It was a really good speech, almost brought tears to my eyes too!

J K Rowling - A speech that wealthy graduates needed to hear.

I just came across the above posted on Prowess 2.0 Women in Business. I am sure everyone will enjoy listening to JK Rowling's personal advice about life from her own experiences. We sooo need people to be brave enough to speak such truth with such conviction. I hope it makes a difference to life choices for those graduates and those they influence.

Certainly similar circumstances/predicament to where I am now and the courage I have to find to pull myself out using my own creativity and imagination - when there is no alternative. Ho Hum - Today was a hugely positive day for me so hearing this seemed like the icing on the cake.

Enjoy.

Goose bumps =)

I hope that those fortunate enough to have been there, absorbed what they heard.

Incredible speech. I always love her and I always feel how deep she reach in Harry Potter in for me crucial matters like friendship, honesty, will power, truthfulness and "go beyond fear and DO " things. I wish her luck with all my heart. :wizard:

Mods - thanks for joing the threads.

Funny update: I thought I had reached rock bottom, well the universe had another shock for me today. Was driving up a steep hill to see my solicitor to help with getting a bank loan (long story but to do with guarantors). Well I never got there! The car engine ended up on fire.

Quite terrifying, on a fast motorway too! Well she was an old gal, over 30 years, and served me well for the last 3 of those.

Time to be creative. :cool2:

I'm glad you are ok Happyliza! I have had an old truck blow up and it is very scary. Good attitude to have. Happy hunting with your creativity :)

Thank you for your kind wishes. Tomorrow is another opportunity - so a good sleep, wake positive, and hopefully the universe reciprocates the energy. :)

Wow, that is a wonderful speech. Thanks for sharing. I've never watched it before.

And, I'm glad you're okay, happyliza. That sure was scary. :flowers:

That was a very impressive speach, I wasn't aware of JK Rowlings background. Her message will hopefully inspire the graduates to reach out as well.

Good to hear you're alright happyliza!

Yes, Thanks Pob and Vulcan:

She was true to her essence, did what she loved. Hopefully, some of the graduates were touched by her presentation. Her words touched me very deeply. :wizard:

Noticed J.K. Rawling was doing her best calling out Rupert Murdoch on his tweeting about Hebdo:

It is not new, yet it has been in a number of articles, so her is one example:

_http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/11/jk-rowling-rupert-murdoch_n_6453306.html

Author J.K. Rowling took to Twitter on Sunday to slam Rupert Murdoch for saying all Muslims "must be held responsible" for extremist violence such as last week's deadly attack on the headquarters of satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo.

On Friday, the News Corp boss said via Twitter that even peaceful Muslims are responsible for the "jihadist cancer."

Maybe most Moslems peaceful, but until they recognize and destroy their growing jihadist cancer they must be held responsible.

— Rupert Murdoch (@rupertmurdoch) January 10, 2015

On Sunday, the "Harry Potter" author linked to an article about Murdoch's comments and unleashed a verbal stinging jinx:

I was born Christian. If that makes Rupert Murdoch my responsibility, I'll auto-excommunicate. http://t.co/Atw1wNk8UX

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) January 11, 2015

She didn't stop there. She also pointed out that the faith of her birth had a few flaws of its own and (sarcastically) took responsibility:

.@dom209 The Spanish Inquisition was my fault, as is all Christian fundamentalist violence. Oh, and Jim Bakker.

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) January 11, 2015

After the two zingers, she completed a Twitter hat trick by working some numbers into the argument:

.@peeyushmalhotra Eight times more Muslims have been killed by so-called Islamic terrorists than non-Muslims. http://t.co/JXLfZOmcKl

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) January 11, 2015

If Murdoch has seen the tweets, he hasn't responded. However, on Sunday he tweeted in remembrance of a Muslim hero -- and victim -- in last week's attack:

Extraordinary scenes in Paris today, but do not forget the heroic sacrifice of Ahmed Merabet, Muslim police officer whose funeral was today.

— Rupert Murdoch (@rupertmurdoch) January 11, 2015

Good on J.K. Rowling for dampening down the Murdoch acrid vile.
