Of course a lie, since now the cost of food, clothes and many other things are higher and the tax is pretty much doubled on those items.
So how does this help the poor who can't afford food or clothes and other things. It's SO ridiculous !
Actually, their are a number of exemptions for the provincial portion of the harmonized sales tax in BC:
* Fuel to power your vehicle (gasoline, ethanol blends, diesel, biodiesel)
* Books
* Child-sized clothing and footwear
* Children’s car seats and car booster seats
* Children’s diapers
* Feminine hygiene products
Of course, the cost of food in BC is already high, so adding in the extra tax for food doesn't cater to low-income families at all.
