I’m about 3/4’s if the way through ‘The Bond’ and have to say that it is a really interesting read and enlightening. From the introduction on though it becomes apparent, as with a lot of people, that she would do well to research and piece together how psychopathy fits in with her research. What is also interesting is how much of the topics she has covered have been covered on the forum (one example is mirror neurons). It’s nice to read about it again or in more depth. I just purchased her first book ‘Intention Experiment’ and will probably reread ‘The Field’ in the near future.

Her overall premise is that there is a bond to life that has not been fully explored that flies in the face of accepted beliefs and theories such as Darwin’s evolution and Dawkin’s selfish gene. That this bond has deteriorated in western society and it is very important to such topics as better health, that it is an essential aspect of life and getting is back is the way forward to healing society.

I thought about typing out the whole chapter 2 since I think it really helps explain the advantage of changing diet, what impact it can have on an individual and why it is so important. Here is one excerpt:
As Jirtle and Waterland’s study decisively demonstrated, genes, far from being the central controller, exist much as subatomic particles do, purely as a potential, to be activated or not by signals outside our body. Research now suggests that information actually flows from the other direction: from outside in. An environmental signal of some sort alerts the body that a particular protein product is needed, and it is the outside environmental signal that activates particular genetic expression. The intricate array of environmental influences to which we are exposed throughout our lives actually determines the final expression of every gene in our body. Genes get turned on, turned off, or modified by our life circumstances and environment: what we eat, who we surround ourselves with, and how we lead our lives.
