The End of Google Videos: videos you think we should archive before they vanish!

I some time ago was a hungry video/documentary downloader. Specifically to issues for learning.
I also had in mind the idea of a Digital Noa Ark. To save as much as possible.

I tested the script 'googlegargle', it does not work for me as expected.
Nonetheless the script 'youtube-dl' is working fine, when I launch it file by file.
I'm downloading two videos linked here.

I see the archive team do have seed list files.
Nonetheless I do not expect them to select the same kind of videos which interest this group.
Please if this initiative is not inappropriate, please add to this thread the parameter 'docid' values, not one by one, but in a list.
I'm going to automate somehow, the download of all of them, I have plenty of space at home.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe I misunderstand but it seems to me that google is transfering its video features to youtube (which they bought?). So it seems that this could be a merger of information, more then a deleting of information. If this is the case their is no vacuum operation going on. What could be happening is that during the transfer some important videos are ´accidentally lost´. In any case this initiative to save important videos has value on its own. It might happen one day that all is errased, without warning. FWIW.

I've started a List on my first post.

I'll add the ones you guys post.

PS: here are some people we should give a special attention while searching:

Richard Dolan
Laura Knight-Jadczyk
Dr Karla Turner
John Keel
Graham Hancock
Klaus Dona
James McCanney
...

that are the ones that come to my mind right now

Edit: others

On May 13, 2011 videos that have been uploaded to Google Video will no longer be available for playback. We’ve added a Migrate to YouTube link to the Video Status new window page, which will allow you to easily migrate your video to a linked YouTube account. In addition, we’ve added a Download link, so you can download any video content you want to save. If you don’t want to download your videos, you don’t need to do anything. (The Migration and Download features will be disabled after May 27, 2011.)

If I read this statement correctly is depends on the people who have downloaded material on Google to migrate it on You tube. So it seems (at least from this statement) that Google itself is not going to migrate anything. The fact that it is the people who downloaded the material on Google need to do the migration might have to do with ownership. Google does not own the videos so it cannot decide to migrate them

from the Google infomation pages:

What's going on with Google Video Uploads?

We are no longer offering uploads to Google Video. Since this is a big change for our site, we wanted to make sure we answered your questions about it.

* Why did Google Video discontinue uploads? Is Google Video shutting down?

No, Google Video will continue to focus our mission on search and search technology. This move will allow Google Video to spend more time on technologies that make the information contained in online video more available and accessible, enabling users to search all kinds of videos across the web.
* Does this change only apply to new and future accounts?

No, this change applies to all accounts.
* If I currently have an account, can I still upload videos?

You won't be able to upload videos to Google Video, but Google will still offer hosting services. Your Google account will enable you to upload videos to Picasa and YouTube.
* Will all of the videos in my Google Video account be deleted?

No. The videos that are already in your account will remain hosted by Google Video. You will still have access to all the existing management tools for them.
* Do I need to notify Google Video that I want my videos to stay up?

You do not need to notify us. Your videos will remain on the site.
* Can you transfer all of my videos to YouTube or Picasa?

While we encourage you to move your content, we are unable to transfer it for you.
* Does this change apply to Google Video for Business and Google Video for Education, used by companies for private, secure video sharing?

No, it doesn't. Google Video for Business and Education is part of Google Apps for Business, and it lets employees share video content with each other, like team updates and recordings of training sessions and guest speakers. Business and education users can continue to upload and share videos.

"Meetings With Remarkable Men" (the 1979 movie) is available in 11 parts on youtube. But 11 parts? That's what I liked about google videos, it was continuous. :(

So many bookmarks to go over.

I was looking for the movie :O didn't knew it was on you tube, have to watch it.

Affirmative. I understood that the google's video users have an option to migrate to youtube. Nonetheless if the user does nothing, or does not have a youtube account ... the content will be deleted.

I already got a lot of stuff years back. Nonetheless it is always a good option to check and grap what you can now. Nevertheless I'm not sure I will, a more important subject is keeping me busy. If I can get a file with an URL list, then sure I will put a background task to download them.

If you google (video downloader) you get a nice software for Mozilla that allows you to download videos from the internet. Though i am still trying to figure out how to download from google video.

P.S. The Richard Feynman series on quantum mechanics part 1 - 4 is very good

There is a program called "Youtube Downloader" that allows you to download video's from Google video and Youtube. I was able to download one video from Google so it should work for most. Here is the link for the program - http:(slashslash)youtubedownload(dot)altervista.org/. I have been using this for about a year now and I do like the simplicity of the program. Perhaps we could make a list of recommended video's needing to be saved?

Sorry about that, I knew I saw it somewhere, but I resolved the google video issue.

There are a lot of videos from David Ray Griffin and Naomi Klein on google. If anyone can find ones that aren't on youtube let us know. I am going to upload the videos I found to my youtube account.

I found Worlds in Collision: Immanuel Velikovsky:

New decision, the videos are no longer to be deleted. They will be migrated to YouTube.
