Dagobah Resident
I've been waiting to introduce the band to the forum and start a thread on them (or us, I should say, I'm the singer/songwriter) for a long time.
We started playing together in late 2013. I was going to wait until we have something solid, like an EP with worthwhile lyrics, looking to share signal, not noise.
Well, it just so happens that we recorded or started recording a live studio EP on the 17th, we only had time for the drum tracks. But it's 5 songs and most of the lyrics are related to and/or inspired by the forum and The Work. Especially the new songs. We officially released one single to date called Slate, it was more of a test run, an audition demo of sorts. They had the song done, they shopped it around, none of the singers came up with anything for it and then they met me and they (the guitarist and the drummer) wanted me to do it. I was testing waters, not sure how heavy my lyrics could get, so I wrote about a guy who wants to commit suicide. I'll just share the lyrics here at the end of this post with links. But the main reason I'm sharing this now is these two comments from the C's in recent sessions:
And this:
Before I get to the songs individually, a little bit more about the band itself. The name, The KeyTones came from the Ketogenic diet, of course. We're inspired by classic rock, mostly late 60's, some 70's influences. Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC and the like. We also got heavier musically as time went by. So the first song was almost pop-ish but definitely light. Speaking of which, the lyrics to Slate:

The second one I feel the most uncomfortable with, sharing. They already had the song idea and it totally fit with a set of lyrics that I wrote years and years ago to commemorate my experience of moving to NYC and who I left behind. It's called Move to the city. When I think I probably should've forgotten about the old lyrics and rewritten it: "Get out of the city!!" or something but it's already recorded and it's more of a love song/confession than anything about the city. Plus, we were also still pretty new, a few months old and I also didn't want to forget about strategic enclosure at least with my band members. What listeners get or when they hear what for the first time, is out of my control. But that was and still sort of is the plan, to gradually become more and more 'in your face' about issues. I talked about musical influences but lyrical influences would be very different: from Bob Dylan and Sixto Rodriguez, through Pink Floyd to Rage Against the Machine.
It was never released as a single because I'm not completely satisfied with the outcome, it sounds a little monotone and repetitive to me. We're thinking about changing a few minor things here and there and making it a part of the new album that way. I really like Lefty's (the guitarist's) solo though. Anyway, I'm probably just overcomplicating something simple. Here are the lyrics for

To make this long post more easy to read, here's a breakdown of the new EP songs:
- Let It Burn (The chorus pretty much sums it up: the world is gonna catch on fire and we're gonna let it burn)
- Backbone (basically a song about psychopathic predators)
- Another Day (basically about and against apathy and procrastination)
- The Girl From Hell (sex as the ultimate lure and weapon of mass distraction)
- Revolution (exactly what it sounds like, the idea originally having been conceived by the following comments from the C's:)

A: Wait for October.
Q: (Odyssey) What's happening in October?
A: Wait and see!
And this:

Julian's waiting for the afterlife
He's planning on ending it all tonight
He had some losses and his dues were due
it takes a man to stand all that he's been through
He's got a bottle and some pills
And a razor's edge
[Devil’s voice]
Are we happy yet?
Don't be a fool
Come with me
And set yourself free
He used to be a dreamer at heart
But reality just doesn't add up
He could have thought twice but he had enough
And we've all been there, getting ready to rock
Well we know we gotta be the change
And you can't give up
[Chorus:]
(DEATH) is not that hard
(LIFE) is what takes balls
(CHANGE) Challenge yourself
(LIVE) And keep on keepin on
Well we all had enough of this world
(Killing ourselves, calling it just)
Then they blame it on human nature
(You know it ain't a part of us!)
[Solo]
[Chorus]
Julian's waiting for the afterlife
He was planning on ending it all tonight
His eyes are glazed, his lips are tight
Now we’ll never know what he dreamed about
The last thing he wanted before he died
Was to live

Move to the City:
When you tried your best in your homeland
And you ran out of time that you've given yourself
You can reroll the dice, maybe even change the stars
But starting all over is not for the faint of heart
[Chorus:]
Who's gonna move, move to the city
I tell ya gotta move, move to the city
You can easily fail at what you don't wanna do,
You might as well live the life that was meant for you
You gotta play to win, just let your life begin,
All you need is already within, it's time to amend
[Chorusx2]
[Solo]
[Bridge:]
Every time I look at you, I remember all that we've been through
Sticks, stones may break my bones but you've got my heart
I toss and turn but I cannot stay, we knew a while it would be this way
You'll always be my little star but I gotta go
[Chorusx2 with choir]

A: Oh indeed!
Q: (Galaxia) Now that's what I like to hear! (Andromeda) Is it going to be a very bloody revolution?
A: Yes.
Q: (Galaxia) On both sides?
A: Yes.
