Dosage

Since it is difficult to measure magnesium in the body accurately, being that most of it is in our bones and only about 1% is in our blood, do we wait until we show signs of deficiency before supplementing? The answer is clearly no if we want to live a long life in good health. Each day it is critical to receive the full requirements our bodies have for magnesium and those who understand the realities of modern life, diets and agricultural practices know how difficult it is to receive our needed magnesium through food alone.

The pertinent questions about magnesium chloride dosing are: how effectively is it absorbed transdermally, in bath water foot soaks, direct topical application or compared to oral consumption? And can we take in too much magnesium when all sources are considered. These are important questions when we start supplementing anything.

Before one begins transdermal magnesium chloride it is highly advised that you read the chapter on warnings and contraindications if you are suffering from any chronic illness, severe disease or deficiency, or are taking any pharmaceutical medications. Also if one is suffering from any kind of disease it is always recommended to have your treatments supervised by a primary health care practitioner. That could be a nurse, chiropractor, naturopathic doctor, acupuncturist, or allopathic medical doctor. Unfortunately few know anything about transdermal magnesium mineral therapy because it is so new.

Magnesium chloride is without doubt a versatile mineral medicine, though as with all forms of magnesium supplementation, it is not easy to calculate the exact dosage. Absorption rates vary considerably from one person to another and from one form of use to another, even with magnesium chloride, which probably delivers more useable magnesium to the cells than any other form. It is wise, especially if one is seriously ill, to start out with low dosages and build slowly up to higher doses over a period of a week or two.

In general, to individualize the appropriate magnesium dosage for oral intake, the rule of thumb is approximately 6-8 mg/kg (3-4 mg per pound) of body weight per day. That translates into a total dietary magnesium intake of 600 to 900 mg per day for a 200-lb man. With children some researchers indicate that 10 mg/kg/day are appropriate because of their low body weight and increased requirements for growth. Athletes also need more depending on their stress and training levels and we can always adjust upwards when under great emotional stress or when seriously ill.[ii],[iii]

The normal accepted recommended daily dietary amount of Magnesium is 300-400 mg. Many professionals feel this to be the bare minimum. Some would say that 1,000 mg is probably more in the range of what most people need due to stress (cortisol) causing magnesium to be dumped into the sweat in increasing quantities. Most people are numb to the amount of stress experienced every day. But cortisol can be measured by saliva tests if one really wants to know and if found to be high magnesium dosages can be adjusted up accordingly.

Dr. Norm Shealy recommends using 6-8 oz in each bath you take when using his suggested magnesium chloride product, which is a USP grade product, made by the process of using hydrocloric acid. This is not considered a natural product, as the magnesium oil evaporated from seawater is, and is considerably more expensive. With the natural form of magnesium oil, evaporated from seawater, the recommended amount per bath is only 2 oz. The cost and amount you use is dependent on the concentration of the magnesium oil obtained. The magensium product from Dr. Shealy contains 25% magnesium chloride as opposed to 30-35% from natural seawater evaporated forms. Fabricated forms of magnesium oil may contain 25 times the amount of heavy metals as the tested natural seawater form. It's the difference between using MgCl2 evaporated from sea water and MgCl2-5H20 powder to make the oil. Please write for more information on these products.

As with anything when just starting, caution should be taken in the beginning until one gets a feel for the appropriate dosages for adult and especially with children. Each person has to adjust the dosage to their own needs, size and body weight. The actual amount used is also dependent on the method of use or the combinations of methods used. Magnesium chloride may be taken orally, applied directly to the skin (used in a massage or simply rubbed on), used in foot baths, full body baths, and sprayed into mucus membranes.

Our cells are best served when they are brimming with magnesium reserves and we need to absorb a sufficient amount each and every day. A magnesium saturated body will be potent and will sport a tougher immune system that will fight more easily against infections and influenza. This does not mean that we should all put ourselves into hypermagnesaemia without concern and ignore the needed balance with other minerals. What we really have to do is made sure we have adequate magnesium, for all the cellular systems to work to their optimal level, and at all times.

The requirements for a very ill person are going to be higher than for a healthy person. In general, for a large adult, spraying one ounce of Magnesium Oil a day all over the body is recommended with that adjusted downward for children depending on their age and size. If used in a full body bath two ounces should be used. Some people enjoy a very concentrated magnesium chloride bath applying as many as eight ounces at a time. For sport injuries more concentrated baths would definitely be indicated. Footbaths use much less water so two ounces will yield a very concentrated footbath.

The Magnesium Oil can and should be diluted when applying directly to the skin (especially with children) if redness or “stingy” feelings result in uncomfortable feelings or sensations. If one is suffering from long term illness of any kind, dosages, whether orally or topically administered, should be started at lower levels and brought up gradually. Magnesium chloride and Vitamin C have similar toxicity profiles with overdose from both resulting at worst usually in diarrhea unless the kidneys are seriously compromised.

Soak the whole body or just the feet in bath water for 20-30 minutes, at a temperature of about 108 degrees The most effective protocol for this therapy is to begin with a daily body or foot bath every day for the first 7 days, (starting at lighter concentrations and building up) then continue with a maintenance program of 2-3 times a week for 6-8 weeks or longer. Sensitive care must be taken especially with children as to dose levels, water temperature and magnesium concentrations. Muscle spasms might occur on rare occasions if one forgets to get out of the tub so it is necessary to supervise children and the length of time they remain soaking in magnesium chloride. All strong reactions like redness in local areas to diarrhea or even muscle spasms are indications to reduce concentration.

Fick’s Law of Membrane Permeability says that the amount of any solute (magnesium) that will be absorbed is directly dependent upon the area of contact, the concentration of the solution and the time that the solute is in contact with the membrane.[iv] Thus one has to feel one’s way to appropriate dosage both in initital self-treatment phases and for long term maintenance dosage levels. A particularly strong sensation is realized when one uses magnesium chloride in the mucous membranes and it is especially useful as a mouthwash to strengthen teeth and revitalize the gums. Spraying three or four sprays full or half strength several times a day is appropriate.

There are no numbers available for how many milligrams are absorbed through the skin but it is generally acknowledged by all who have been involved with transdermal application of magnesium chloride that topical is actually the best avenue of entrance into the body. Dr. Norm Shealy has gone as far as applying for a patent for the specific use of transdermal magnesium therapy to raise DHEA hormone levels, something he claims oral and intravenous methods do not seem to do.

Magnesium Oil from the sea weighs 12 pounds per gallon. Distilled water weighs only 8 pounds.[v] Thus we can calculate in a straight away manner how much elemental magnesium is in each gallon and ounce. Each spray of Magnesium Oil contains approximately 18 milligrams of elemental magnesium. An ounce would contain just over 3,300 mg. Five sprays in a glass of water would be almost 100 milligrams and one could probably count on the majority of that being absorbed. If two ounces are put into a bath we might have over six thousand milligrams floating around in the water but only a fraction of that will be absorbed. But absorbed it will be for almost everyone experiences the effect and Dr. Shealy has done studies showing the rising magnesium levels. Spraying it on the body will yield a higher magnesium concentration on the skin so an ounce used that way will result in more magnesium absorbed than two ounces used in a bath.

It should be understood that we need more research into studies on absorbability and bioavailability thru the skin, and the necessity to use this chapter as a general guideline only. Possibly the best approach is a combination approach alternating with baths, direct spraying on the body, and oral intake besides relying on one’s foods. When one uses all three approaches together it is easier to bring ones magnesium levels up in a month or two to healthy levels and from there one has only to maintain appropriate daily intake.

There is no specific information about oral magnesium chloride in liquid form but it is reasonably safe to assume it would be more absorbable than magnesium taurate. Liquid minerals are thought to be much more absorbable than tablets.

3-5 sprays of magnesium chloride in a glass of pure water is an
excellent way to take magnesium internally. It assists digestion,
counteracts excess acidity in the stomach, and delivers magnesium
swiftly into the bloodstream for distribution to all the cells of the body.

Tao of Detoxification

The taste of the solution is not very good (it has a bitter-saltish flavor) so a little of fruit juice (grapefruit, orange, lemon) can be added to the solution. Individuals with very sensitive taste buds may start using it in tiny amounts mixed with strongly flavoured food and increase doses very gradually. Alternatively, drink it in one gulp dissolved in water while pinching your nose and quickly drink something pleasant afterwards.

Hydrated magnesium chloride (powder or crystal) contains about 120 mg of magnesium per gram or 600 mg per rounded teaspoon. It has a mildly laxative effect. As a good maintenance intake to remain healthy you may take about 400 mg or a level teaspoon daily in divided doses with meals. With raised blood pressure and symptoms of magnesium deficiency you may temporarily increase this to 2 teaspoons daily in divided doses under the supervision of your healthcare practitioner. This may already cause 'loose stools' in some. However, commonly with these conditions a rounded teaspoon daily or 600 mg may be just right. With low blood pressure additional calcium may be required together with about 300 mg of magnesium for a ratio of two parts of calcium to one part of magnesium.

Dr. Raul Vergin offers the following guidelines for oral intake of a 2.5% Magnesium Chloride hexahydrate (MgCl2-6H2O) solution (i.e.: 25 grams or approximately one ounce of pure food grade powder in a liter of water). The quantity of elemental magnesium contained in a 125 cc dose of the 2.5% solution is around 500 mg.

Dosages are as follows:

Adults and children over 5 years old 125 cc
4 year old children 100 cc
3 year old children 80 cc
1-2 year old children 60 cc
Over 6 months old children 30 cc
Under 6 months old children 15 cc

125 milliliter = 4.2267528 ounce [US, liquid]
cc and ml are equivalent

Dr. Vergin indicates that “In acute diseases the dose is administered every 6 hours (every 3 hours the first two doses if the case is serious); then space every 8 hours and then 12 hours as improvement goes on. After recovery it's better going on with a dose every 12 hours for some days. As a preventive measure, and as a magnesium supplement, one dose a day can be taken indefinitely. Magnesium Chloride, even if it's an inorganic salt, is very well absorbed and it's a very good supplemental magnesium source.”

Daniel Reid says, “Using Magnesium Oil is the quickest and most convenient way to transmit magnesium chloride into the cells and tissues through the skin. 2-3 sprays under each armpit function as a highly effective deodorant, while at the same time transporting magnesium swiftly through the thin skin into the glands, lymph channels, and bloodstream, for distribution throughout the body. Spray it onto the back of the hand or the top of the feet any time of day or night for continuous magnesium absorption. Regardless of where you apply the spray on the body, once it penetrates the surface of the skin, the body transports it to whichever tissues need magnesium most.”

Dr. Norm Shealy recommends using 6-8 oz in each bath you take when you use his suggested magnesium chloride product, which is a food grade magnesium chloride. With the Magnesium Oil that we recommend using, the recommended amount per bath is only 2 oz. The cost and the amount you use is dependent on the concentration of the magnesium oil used. The magnesium oil we recommend is 30–35 percent Magnesium Chloride as opposed to 25 percent for Dr. Shealy’s oil. It’s the difference between using MgCl2 evaporated from sea water and MgCl2-6H2O powder to make the oil.

The magnesium oil also comes in a gel (lower concentration for massage) form as well as a small bottle with a spray pump for easy application to the skin. All massage therapists should be using the gel, and even families, for it is always a good idea to combine a massage with a magnesium treatment. The oil, which is not an oil actually, (it just has an oily consistency), is also usable in massage applications. If we really appreciated how important it is to make sure our magnesium levels are satisfactory we would be spraying our underarms with it everyday, spraying it on to different parts of our body and would never leave it out of our baths.

[iv] Diffusion is the mechanism by which components of a mixture are transported around the mixture by means of random molecular (Brownian) motion (cf. permeation: the ability of a diffusant to pass through a body - dependent on both the diffusion coefficient, D, and the solubility coefficient, S, ie, permeability coefficient, P = D.S). Flynn et al. cite Berthalot as postulating, at the beginning of the nineteenth century, that the flow of mass by diffusion (ie, the flux), across a plane, was proportional to the concentration gradient of the diffusant across that plane. http://www.initium.demon.co.uk/fick.htm

[v] Magnesium chloride is an ionic compound because it has a metal, magnesium, and a nonmetal, chlorine. Magnesium will lose two electrons and form a +2 charge. Chlorine will gain one electron to form a chloride ion with a -1 charge. The formula for the compound is MgCl2. To get the formula weight, find the atomic weights and add them together taking the subscripts into account. Magnesium is 24.3; chlorine is 35.5; so two would be 71.0. The total gives 95.3 as the formula weight.

Product Description
Transdermal Magnesium Therapy is the first and only book that focuses on one of the most important, exciting, and natural ways of magnesium replenishment; i.e., as absorbed through the skin. Extensive research has shown that this vital macronutrient enters the body through the skin, beneficial physiological processes occur, such as a natural increase in DHEA production, that happen no other way. Mark Sircus provides a critical overview of magnesium's grossly overlooked place in the nutrition matrix, as well as a comprehensive look at other available forms and intake protocols.

From the Publisher
The rise in chronic illness and disease as associated with the concurrent rise in routine use of, and exposure to toxins and pathogens, is well documented. In fact, chronic illness and disease has become an accepted, and even expected eventuality of modern living. What has not been well documented is the body's natural ability to maintain, and even restore its health, IF properly nourished... not so much with popular foods (which are themselves nutritionally compromised), but with minerals. Magnesium is one of the most important minerals to human health, but also one of the least publicized.

Mark Sircus has researched the research on magnesium, and found hundreds of cases that prove its critical role in the maintenance of our health.

Understanding Magnesium Replenishment Transdermally

The world is waking up to a new form of magnesium replenishment on the strength of the book, Transdermal Magnesium Therapy, that is experiencing high pass along and word-of-mouth growth. As a concept, the term “replenishment” would be positioned as a step beyond supplementation. “Supplementation” presupposes that you are getting somewhere near adequate supplies from traditional nutritional sources, which for most of us are through food and beverages.

But that’s not the case.

We’re not getting enough magnesium; not nearly enough, and our health — in the form of a rising tide of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, stroke, heart disease, Autism, cancer, and even AIDS — is showing it. This is not to say that magnesium deficiency is the “cause” of all of these conditions, but it is a major factor in the ability for each to exist. The severity of the deficiency is directly related to the severity of the disease.

One other factor that is almost never considered with respect to “nutritional” intake, is the water we ingest, not by drinking, but that which is absorbed through the skin. While we fastidiously take measures to buy the best and sometimes expensive bottled waters and convince ourselves that we’re well protected, we take showers, baths, and wash dishes with waters that are often treated with chlorine and fluoride. Chlorine, which is used as a disinfectant in water treatment systems, produces carcinogenic byproducts in the human body. Fluorides are used in water and toothpaste. Both are members of the halogen family of elements, along with bromide. All have harmful effects, and are ingested without much thought given to the consequences.

Irrespective of how one came to be magnesium deficient, our state of health and well-being improves when magnesium levels are increased. To that end, replenishment is important, and as a concept, it is still new. Well, it’s not really new; our experience with it is.

Many of the people who are now talking about transdermal magnesium intake are only discussing it in the context of being something that you apply to an ache or pain, or for inflammation. While this is true, this level of communication yields behaviors that maintain deficiencies because it is only being applied when something “hurts.” When the critical role of magnesium as a foundational nutrient that can and will help the body produce DHEA master hormone plus over 325 enzymes on its own is fully appreciated, different behaviors will ensue. We will apply it even when we’re not hurting. This will improve the condition of our bones, flexibility of muscles, including the heart.

Magnesium naturally breaks down calcium deposits, which can build up in the arterial system, increasing blood pressure and causing blood clots. It does much more.

I spoke to a man the other day whose son has an extreme case of psoriasis. He gave his son some “magnesium oil” (actually contains no oil). When he applied it, it was like someone had put liquid fire on his back. He summarily put the magnesium down, and didn’t pick it up again.

What happened?

I told his dad that this is what happens when magnesium chloride encounters toxins, pathogens, or heavy metal deposits that have lodged themselves in skin tissue. The magnesium chloride solution — which tests have shown contain virtually no toxins or impurities — would cause no discomfort if applied to tissue areas that have no toxin or heavy metal buildup. Since magnesium works in ionic form, entering inside each cell, it is crucial that a sufficient supply of magnesium ions are available.

When they enter through the skin, they will encounter toxins where they reside. Sensations experienced can range from mild itching to wildly painful. I call it a “shootout at the OK corral.” If you know what’s happening, then you won’t put the magnesium down and forget about it. You can dilute it and reapply, or add it to bath water or a foot bath. You can also apply it to another part of the body that doesn’t react as dramatically.

Once the magnesium has entered the body, it will be carried to the place of greatest need, where the greatest benefit can be realized. As your levels get to normal — whatever that is for you — any discomfort that you may have experienced, will abate. All you need to know is that it’s critical to the restoration and maintenance of your health.

Transdermal Magnesium Therapy

In the caveman period, calcium and magnesium were at a ratio of 1 to 1. Now, because the soil is no longer magnesium-rich and because the foods that contain magnesium are usually cooked or processed, the mineral is in short supply, and the ratio has become 6 to 1.

The disparity has led to many different and varied health issues because magnesium plays a role in most of human processes.Magnesium deficiencies are associated with conditions as varied and as simple as hangovers and wrinkles, and as severe as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Since there is nothing done in the human body that does not use energy, and since that energy cannot be made nor used without magnesium, people become patients suffering from PMS, Chronic Fatigue, low metabolism, painful and enlarged breasts, sinus problems, psoriasis, and heavy metal toxicity.Deficiencies of magnesium are involved with deficiency of Vitamin B6, Vitamin C and E, and with the body's inability to make or use protein.

Among other signs, magnesium deficiency might be suspected when someone is restless, can't sit still, body rocking, grinding teeth, noise sensitivity, poor attention span, poor concentration, irritability, aggressiveness, ready-to-explode anger, a variety of psychological symptoms, as well as depression.

Lack of the mineral has also been connected with Parkinson's disease, MS, and Alzheimer's disease.

A quick look at some general uses of magnesium includes the following: SKIN - sprayed on, the skin will begin to rejuvenate; on the hair, new growth. TEETH - use as mouthwash to strengthen teeth and for gingivitis.

MUCUS MEMBRANES - use low concentrations for nose and eye washes (half water, half magnesium): when spayed into the vagina or on the sexual organs, it may stimulate desire.

GENERAL TONIC - essential for life, it participates in over 325 enzyme reactions, giving more energy, strength and endurance, as well as increased sexual energy.

SPORTS - may be the most important mineral for sports nutrition, helping to fight fatigue, heat exhaustion, blood sugar control and metabolism. It may make the difference between winning and losing. The loss of magnesium through sweat and urine during heavy exertion may account for the number of athletes who have congestive heart failure and those long distant runners who suddenly drop dead with heart arrhythmias.

PAIN RELIEF - use for all aches and pains.

NATURAL IMMUNE SYSTEM BOOSTER

MEMORY AND COGNITIVE FUNCTION - may improve cognitive functions particularly of children and the elderly.

DHEA has been called the "Fountain of Youth: however," the synthetic product is dangerous to health and can lead to cancer, heart disease, etc. Fortunately, the use of magnesium chloride applied to the skin will gradually increase DHEA in a natural way. (Some women have even reported a complete abatement of the symptoms of menopause.)

Magnesium is essential to health. "Five minutes without air spells doom. Deficient daily magnesium intake means serious trouble and speaks of disease when uncorrected. It means premature aging, declining fertility and sexual potency and ability to conceive new life." It means more pain than you want to feel and the potential of dropping dead after strenuous exercise or becoming a long-term victim of diabetes or heart disease or cancer.

I suppose because magnesium chloride is derived from the sea, that a daily swim in the sea would also be beneficial?

In one liter of sea water, you have roughly 35 grams of salt, including 4 grams of magnesium chloride.

So a bath in the sea is a way to promote transdermal magnesium intake.

If you can bath in the dead sea it's even better ;)

If you add 200 grams of nigari to your bath water, you will get roughly 170 grams of magnesium chloride for roughly 200 liters almost 1 gram per liter.

Interesting...I decided to take a look at my daily multi-vitamin- lo and behold! Hardly any Mg at all (also very low values of calcium and zinc). I went out and purchased a supplement that contains all three, it will be interesting to see what sort of an effect that has. I frequently get charlie horses in my legs (this wakes me up about 1x a week at least), which is unusual considering that I exercise frequently, am young, and a healthy well-rounded vegetarian. I also get tired easily (I've had mono twice, each lasting for several months), but no other significant health problems to date. We'll see if that has any effect on the leg cramps, at least.

there are various UK suppliers of magnesium supplements, but many of them seem to contain the apparently less useful compounds (eg magnesium oxide, magnesium aspartate), so here's one place I found where you can get Magnesium Citrate in the UK: link

and also a supplier of magnesium chloride (uk, europe, n. america): link
but I haven't ordered from there so, as always, 'caveat emptor'.

I was able to find magnesium orotate at the local pharmacy, which seems good too:

In 1961, Laborit and Nieper introduced cardiac therapy, especially protective therapy against cardiac infarction, based on magnesium aspartate. Somewhat later, in 1968, magnesium orotate - a further development - was added as longterm therapy against cardiac infarction, by Nieper.

Since then, we have had a large number of patients under long-term magnesium orotate therapy because of angina pectoris and other cardiac metabolism disturbances. This treatment has such a positive effect that the patients themselves request renewed presciptions once they run out of tablets. Thus, long-term therapy necessarily results.

For some time we have observed, with some surprise, that hardly any new cancer occurrences appear in this group of patients. The probability for this is so small, in fact, that in cases of doubt and for acute complaints, a diagnosis of cancer is highly unlikely. The rate of new cancerous diseases with long-term magnesium orotate therapy is perhaps less than 20% of the frequency otherwise expected, at least for the first 10 years of the observation period. Obviously further observations are necessary, and we thought this finding was so important that we wanted to mention it. In the last analysis, it is also in line with Pierre Delbet's scientific legacy.

In contrast to all other magnesium salts, magnesium orotate transports the magnesium atom to the membranes of the structures in the cullular plasma - the socalled mitochondria - and possibly to the cell nucleus' genetic apparatus. We know from S. Rubin's extraordinary studies in Berkeley that the magnesium ions freed at these locations are necessary to activate those enzymes which are required to "read" the genetic information in the chromosomes. the International Cancer Congress in Seattle, in the fall of 1982 dealt predominantly with the problem Of misinformation from the genetic system and the subsequent cancer generation of a cell. To discuss this question in detail is beyond the scope of this article. There are some indications that it is not only gene defects in the cancer cell chromosomes that cause the loss of control; it is also various deficiencies and distubances in correct "gene reading."

And

Magnesium Orotate (MgOr) is more effective than other magnesium supplements. It penetrates cell membranes and delivers the magnesium ion inside the cell at the level of the mitochondria and the cell nucleus.

As we shall see, MgOr has documented benefits in treating and improving outcomes of cardiovascular disorders such as heart attacks, arrhythmias, blood vessel stiffness, atherosclerosis, pacemaker function and high blood pressure. It is also used by competitive athletes to increase endurance, and treat symptoms of other magnesium deficiencies, including diabetes, dementia, and osteoporosis, as well as to treat migraines, asthma, chronic lung disease and various types of cancer. If you are worried or suffering from any of these conditions I suggest you take the no-obligation Inflammation Survey

Heart and Blood Vessel Diseases are one of the Leading Causes of Death
Their prevention and therapy are very important. It is important to understand that free radicals are highly toxic to heart cells and are involved in ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Deficient cellular nutrition created by metabolic abnormalities is an important consideration in the pathogenesis of both skeletal and cardiac muscle dysfunction. (Sole, Mj 2003) Several specific deficiencies have been found in the failing myocardium:

* The important myocardial energy producers L-carnitine, coenzyme Q10, creatine, thiamine and magnesium are reduced
* A relative deficiency of taurine, an amino acid that is integral to the modulation of intracellular calcium levels often coexists with an increase in myocardial oxidative stress (see more on Taurine below)
* A reduction of both endogenous and exogenous antioxidant defenses is present.
* In addition, these processes may negatively impact skeletal muscle metabolism and function.

The good new is that each of these deficiencies is amenable to restoration through dietary supplementation. For example

* Magnesium Orotate reduces serum cholesterol levels.
* It prevents hardening of the arteries restoring the cells of the arteries even more than calcium aspartate

Dr. Nieper generally combined magnesium orotate with other nutrients for optimal effect. For example, it’s known that potassium deficiency is closely linked with magnesium deficiency. In addition, potassium orotate itself is thought to be beneficial for conditions such as cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure.

Excess Acidity in the Heart Muscle as a Preparation for Cardiac Infarction
In preparation for cardiac infarction, initially the heart muscle’s acidity increases strongly, i.e., its pH decreases.

The physiology professor, Schmidt-Schönbein, from Aachen, Germany showed that during excessive blood acidity, the red blood corpuscles become rigid and are no longer plastic (pliable) enough. Normally, a red blood corpuscle can become so thin that it readily passes through an opening much smaller than its normal diameter. However, when the red blood corpuscles become rigid due to excessive blood acidity, then they can clog the end network of fine capillary branches. They then cause renewed damage. For this reason, acidification of the blood in the heart muscle must absolutely be avoided.

When potassium magnesium aspartate, magnesium orotate and carnitine are supplied the pH becomes alkaline again. The intracellular delivery of these nutrients stimulates the production of ATP, accelerating glucose entry into and acid flow out of the cell causing the danger of heart muscle necrosis or cardiac infarction to recede.

Improving Blood Vessel Elasticity while Lowering Blood Pressure
The magnesium from the specifically-transported magnesium orotate activates enzymes which then “clean” the organism of deposits, for example, of cholesterol layers in the vessels. In addition to its cholesterol-lowering and heart-energizing effects; magnesium orotate has been reported to improve the elasticity of blood vessels. Using capillarographic recordings Dr. Nieper was able to show that a daily dose of 380 mg magnesium orotate over 15 months was sufficient to normalize or greatly improve the elasticity of peripheral blood vessels in 60 of 64 patients. Such an effect on vessel elasticity suggests the use of magnesium orotate for lowering blood pressure as well as for inhibiting arteriosclerosis.

Unclogging Arteries and Inhibiting Arteriosclerosis
A Nieper combination designed for unclogging arteries involved magnesium orotate, together with carnitine, selenium and bromelain. This combination of nutrients produced an excellent cleansing effect on arterial deposits inhibiting platelet aggregation and dissolving fibrin clots. The 2- and 4-year mortality rates for patients on this regimen were reportedly reduced by 90% or more compared to patients in other studies who received conventional medications.

Improving the Heart’s Pacemaker Function
Dr. Nieper’s research indicated that ionic detergent residues (especially those used in dish washers) impair the combustion process of neutral fats. He said, “They also exert their damaging influence on the pentose-pathway tissue. This can be seen, for instance, in an acute hearing loss, as well as in an abrupt disturbance of the heart’s pacemaker system. It is thus not unusual for an acute hearing loss to be the harbinger of a disturbance of failure in the natural pacemaker system. These deleterious effects to the pacemaker system are fairly easy to overcome if the substrates, which are necessary for the cell’s proper functioning, are supplied. These are vitamin C, potassium orotate, magnesium orotate, calcium orotate, chromium and especially selenium. The orotates mentioned are important because the carrier molecule, orotic acid, has an unusual ability to penetrate into the pacemaker system’s cells. Aspartates (aspartic acid) do not have this ability.”

The Lysosomal Connection
Magnesium orotate is effective in quelling the activity of lysosomal enzymes. During intense acidity levels in the heart muscle, certain enzymes are activated, namely, the lysosomal enzymes. These results in enzymatic destruction of the heart muscle and blood vessel tissue called a “lysosomal chain reaction”.

Dr. Nieper sternly points out: “One substantial injurious factor that leads to an increase in lysosomal frequency in the heart muscle is the smoking of cigarettes. Thus, the consumption of cigarettes leads to countless latent bombs, which can explode at any time, in the context of a chain reaction in the heart muscle. It is thus quite understandable that the increase in cardiac infarction frequency is particularly noted in the case of smokers, while they are not particularly susceptible to a greater degree of coronary sclerosis, in comparison to nonsmokers.” It’s especially important that these people do as much as possible to counteract the tremendously detrimental effects of their insidious addiction. Cigarettes are a legal drug of choice with terrible consequences that seem to have no impact on those addicted who will even ignore the obviously fact that they are committing suicide and at the same time, through second hand smoke, murdering others.

An Important Adjunct to Magnesium Orotate NutriTherapy
TAURINE: The neuroprotective effects of taking taurine for about six months include the significant reductions of ventricular fibrillation. Taurine provides significant cardio-protection against the deleterious effect of free radicals. In a 2004 study by the Hanna et al, the authors conclude that taurine acts as a potent, but non-specific, scavenger of free radicals that cause heart damage and protects against reperfusion-induced ventricular.

In Japan, taurine therapy us used in the treatment of ischemic heart disease with supplements of 5-6 grams daily in three divided doses. Low taurine and magnesium levels were found in patients after heart attacks or heart surgery. Taurine also treats arrhythmias, especially arrhythmias secondary to ischemia. People with congestive heart failure have also responded to a dosage of 2 grams three times daily with improved cardiac and respiratory function. Other cardiovascular uses of taurine include hypertension, especially those related to effects in rennin-angiotensin system of the kidneys, and in patients with high cholesterol levels.

Healthy Athletes Benefit from Magnesium Orotate
Finally, it’s worth pointing out that magnesium orotate isn’t just for heart patients-it’s also for healthy athletes. In a double-blind, randomized study competitive triathletes had greater endurance as a result of the magnesium orotate supplements. By contrast, a different study in which athletes were supplemented with magnesium oxide (which is relatively poorly absorbed) reported no improvement in exercise performance, attesting to the superior uptake of magnesium in the orotate form compared to the oxide.

Ed Sharpe reports: With regard to the other orotates, I have previously mentioned that magnesium orotate increases endurance in exercising athletes and that potassium orotate has been shown to increase blood levels of reduced glutathione, the body’s natural antioxidant. Since endurance depends critically on the levels of oxidative stress in exercising muscle, I guessed that adding some potassium orotate to the magnesium orotate I was already taking might yield even better results. In general I take one tablet of each of the orotates every morning; on exercise days, I increase the dose by taking an extra tablet each of potassium and magnesium orotate an hour or two before heading for the gym. It didn’t take long for the results to become obvious. I’m now pushing heavier weights on the Nautilus machine than I’ve ever done previously.

Magnesium Orotate and Cancer
“We have had a large number of patients under long-term magnesium orotate therapy because of angina pectoris and other cardiac metabolism disturbances. This treatment has such a positive effect that the patients themselves request renewed prescriptions once they run out of tablets. Thus, long-term therapy necessarily results” reports Nieper.

“For some time we have observed, with some surprise, that hardly any new cancer occurrences appear in this group of patients. The probability for this is so small, in fact, that in cases of doubt and for acute complaints, a diagnosis of cancer is highly unlikely. The rate of new cancerous diseases with long-term magnesium orotate therapy is perhaps less than 20% of the frequency otherwise expected, at least for the first 10 years of the observation period.” Dr. Nieper quips, “Use of magnesium orotate would be a nightmare for any government if it should turn out to be true that this substance is as effective in cancer prevention as it is in the prevention of cardiac and circulatory diseases, this would severely threaten the collapse of all retirement-financing plans.

Nieper states: “Today we know that cancer of the cervix is caused – or better yet “started” – by a virus of the herpes family. The start of cervical cancer can be of a fairly aggressive nature and is characterized by one peculiarity: the bodies own immunological defense systems, especially those of the lymphocytes and of steroid surveillance, are quite ineffective against this cancer from the very beginning, in contrast to many other tumors.”

He than warns us: “In this context, another peculiarity exists: the administration of sodium fluoride in drinking water and, probably to the same extent, in tablets (also for children) clearly increases the rate of cancer incidence. “On the other hand, there is a peculiarity in connection with the occurrence of cervical cancer, which has directly affected my work recently. This is the shortage of a certain complement (C3c) which is a component of blood albumen, having a complex structure, and which must be coupled to antibodies or defensive cells to render their action against viruses effective. This finding allows the conclusion that the shortage of such a complement is responsible for the fact that herpes virus can start its malignant activity on the skin cells of the cervix. Incidentally, a complement deficiency can be eased by supplying magnesium orotate and zinc aspartate, as well as selenium and molybdenum (from cauliflower), and Squalene.”

Meanwhile the strong suspicion has arisen that in many other organ tumors, viruses – especially of the herpes group, as well as those of hepatitis-B and the so-called cytomegalovirus– are more or less co-responsible for the initiation of the malignant process, i.e., for the real cancer genesis in the cell. This suspicion applies to the following tumors: ovaries; bladder; kidneys; prostate; all tumors in the nose, mouth and throat area; certain tumors of the so-called adenocarcinoma type, of the windpipe and the bronchia in the lungs; lymphomas; the so-called clear cell melanomas; melanomas in general; and pancreas, which was repeatedly observed following acute shingles.

It also applies to primary liver cancer after earlier viral hepatitis-B. Furthermore, apparently viruses of the herpes group also play a role in Hodgkin’s Disease. However, the latter must be included among the immune diseases, which can also lead to – among other things – the development of equally malignant primary tumors at several locations. Finally, there are several originally tropical tumors, such as the so-called Burkitt lymphoma, caused by Epstein-Barr viruses, which belong to the herpes group.

Thus the role of a virus in cancer, at least as a causative factor, is apparently much more important than previously imagined.

Insomnia and Fatigue Fighter
Dr. Nieper found Magnesium Orotate especially effective against insomnia, fatigue. He reports: “One of my private patients who had severe insomnia for 42 years, just responded to magnesium orotate in a miraculous way.”

PubMed Studies:I found hundreds of research articles regarding the effectiveness of Magnesium Orotate. In study after study MgOr has proven to be cardio protective. These studies indicate that magnesium orotate is myocardial and neuronal protective too. MgOr is indicated for the treatment of Mg depletion and also in coronary heart patients undergoing e.g. aortocoronary bypass surgery. Here are just a couple of examples.

Metabolic supplementation with orotic acid and magnesium orotate.

Orotic acid (OA), a naturally occurring substance, is a key intermediate in the biosynthetic pathway of pyrimidines. Previous investigations in the heart suggest that orotate can protect recently infarcted hearts against a further ischemic stress and may be beneficial in certain types of experimental cardiomyopathy. At the Hamburg symposium on magnesium orotate, a number of studies of this form of metabolic supplementation were presented that indicate orotic acid and its magnesium salt have a modest beneficial effect on the myocardium under conditions of stress ranging from myocardial infarction to severe physical exercise. The following conclusions can be drawn: (1) Orotic acid can improve the energy status of the recently infarcted myocardium (rat hearts). (2) Orotic acid may improve myocardial purine and pyrimidine levels by stimulating hepatic release of uridine into the bloodstream, which in turn augments depleted myocardial pyrimidines and purines (rat heart). (3) Orotic acid improves the tolerance of the recently infarcted heart to global ischemia (rats). (4) Magnesium orotate may reduce the severity of chronic myocardial dysfunction and structural damage in cardiomyopathy (cardiomyopathic hamsters). (5) Magnesium orotate may improve exercise tolerance in patients with coronary artery disease and in trained athletes (humans). (6) Magnesium orotate has only a weak inotropic effect, if any, on normal hearts (rats). (7) Further clinical testing is indicated to determine if the effects described could be of significant clinical benefit in the treatment of heart disease.

Magnesium orotate molecule includes two synergic protective components: orotic acid and magnesium. Moreover, the orotic acid behaves as a transporter, carrying magnesium into the cells. The antioxidative protective effect of the orotic acid is mainly due to the pirimidinic bases that favor and increased synthesis of enzymes which act as free radical scavengers. The cell antioxidative protective system is dramatically impaired following heavy aggressions such as the ischemia. Magnesium orotate improves the survival of cells situated within the perinecrotic areas as well as of the cells secondarily damaged during the so-called “second wind”.

DNA REPROGRAMMING
This is a comprehensive biomedical protocol to assist in restoring damaged DNA to its previous, normal state. To learn more read the article “Speaking the Language that Reprograms the DNA”.

1. DNA Reprogramming can be used to clear heart muscle acidity, blood acidity and lysosomal enzymes.
2. Check and if needed use DNA Reprogramming for defective Complement (C3c).
3. DNA Reprogramming can be used to clear the Herpes virus family, including cytomegalovirus and Epstein Barr. This often requires more than one clearing due to the insidious nature of and the many strains in the Herpes Family
4. In light of Dr. Nieper’s observation that Liver Cancer is often associated with Hepatitis B DNA Reprogramming can be used to check for and clear this virus if needed

About Magnesium Orotate

Magnesium orotate is a mineral salt that is normally found in small amounts in all living things. Each molecule of magnesium orotate consists of two molecules of orotic acid in which a single magnesium atom replaces a pair of hydrogen atoms (one from each orotic acid molecule).

Orotate (orotic acid) is a biochemical substance made by all living cells. It is a necessary raw material for making the genetic material: RNA and DNA.4

Magnesium is an essential mineral that serves as a cofactor for many enzymes made in the body.1 The optimum dietary magnesium intake for humans is still being disputed. Some authorities give a range of 30 to 400 mg/day depending upon age,2 while others believe it is more like 400 to 1000 mg/day.3

Of the minerals required in large amounts by the human body, the one most likely to be deficient is magnesium.5 Various disorders have been linked to magnesium deficiencies, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, anxiety disorders, dementia, migraines and osteoporosis.1 In addition, physicians have found magnesium compounds helpful for treating asthma, chronic lung disease, and cardiac conditions such as heart attack and arrhythmias.5

What we can’t tell you

In the U.S. and some other industrialized countries, government agencies like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have adopted censorship as a method for intensifying their control over supplement users and their suppliers. Thus, FDA regulations prohibit us from telling you that any of our products are effective as medical treatments, even if they are, in fact, effective.

Accordingly, we will limit our discussion of magnesium orotate to a brief summary of relevant research, and let you draw your own conclusions about what medical conditions it may be effective in treating.

Magnesium orotate was introduced as a supplement by Dr. Hans Nieper, the innovative German physician,6 who used it to treat or prevent the following conditions:5,7

* atherosclerosis
* kidney failure from diabetes or high blood pressure
* viral diseases
* heart attacks
* blood clots

Nieper considered orotates to be superior to carbonates, chlorides, sulfates, and other anions as bioavailability enhancers for minerals like magnesium.5

Hans Nieper was a controversial figure whose treatments were denounced by many in the medical profession and were targeted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration — despite the fact that these critics had done essentially no investigation of these treatments, and despite the fact that countless thousands of Nieper’s patients and followers found the treatments to be superbly effective.6 Nieper died in 1998, but his influence lives on.

Other researchers have also studied some of the medical applications of magnesium ororate. Let’s look briefly at these applications.
Recovery from heart attacks and heart surgery

A substantial number of studies have been done using magnesium orotate supplements for patients who have had heart attacks or heart surgery. The main benefits reported include: improved survival of tissue damaged by oxygen starvation,8 reduction of premature heartbeats,9 increase in exercise capacity,9,10 correction of magnesium depletion,11 improvements in skin appearance,12 and reduction in calcification of damaged heart tissue.13 The mechanism for these benefits is suspected to involve an improved availability of DNA and RNA precursors needed for repair of damaged tissue, and an increase in the synthesis of glycogen and ATP, both of which provide energy to the heart muscle.14
Magnesium orotate and athletic performance

Since magnesium orotate has been shown to improve the performance of heart muscle in patients who have had heart attacks, and apparently does so by improving the heart muscle’s access to energy, it is not surprising that similar results have been seen in studies in which the subjects were athletes rather than patients. For example, a 1998 study reported that “... 23 competitive triathletes competing in an event consisting of a 500-meter swim, a 20-km bicycle race, and a 5-km run were studied after 4-week supplementation with placebo or 17 mmol/d Mg orotate. ... Swimming, cycling, and running times decreased in the Mg-orotate group compared with the controls.”15
Cardiovascular disease and cholesterol profiles

As science writer Ed Sharpe has pointed out, magnesium orotate has been reported to improve the elasticity of blood vessels. A daily dose of 380 mg magnesium orotate over 15 months was sufficient to normalize or greatly improve the elasticity of peripheral blood vessels in 60 of 64 of Hans Nieper’s patients.“Such an effect on vessel elasticity suggests the use of magnesium orotate for lowering blood pressure as well as for inhibiting arteriosclerosis.”5

Hungarian studies during the 1990s found that magnesium orotate influenced LDL and HDL cholesterol levels in the arteries of rabbits and inhibited plaque formaiton.16 “Atherosclerotic alterations in each vessel could be influenced moderately by Mg-chloride, quite well by orotic acid and excellently by Mg-orotate. From these results one can conclude that orotic acid and Mg-orotate have a beneficial effect in the prevention and therapy of heart and vessels diseases.”17
In combination with potassium orotate

Hans Nieper usually combined magnesium orotate with other supplements to take advantage of synergies. For example, he recommended a combination of magnesium orotate (1.5 to 2.5 grams per day) plus potassium orotate (138 to 300 mg daily) for treating coronary heart disease. He also suggested adding the pineapple enzyme bromelain (120 to 140 mg per day) to inhibit platelet aggregation and dissolve fibrin clots. In this way he reduced the mortality rates by 90% or more compared to patients in other studies who received conventional medications.5
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

The main symptoms of ADHD are inattention, instability, and physical aggression with no self-control. Children with ADHD have significantly lower-than-normal magnesium levels in red blood cells.18 In a 2004 study of 52 hyperexcitable children, intervention for six months with magnesium and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) reduced hyperactivity, hyperexcitability, and aggressiveness in all treated patients and improved school attention.18,19
Autism

Autism, a neurodevelopmental disorder, is characterized by three behavioral impairments: impaired social interaction, impaired communication, and restricted and repetitive interests and activities.20 According to a recent online survey, approximately 30% of parents give their autistic children a supplement of magnesium and vitamin B6.21 There is no agreement of what dosages of magnesium and vitamin B6 should be used.

In a recent study French researchers showed that children with autism had significantly lower red blood cell magnesium levels than controls. Intervention with magnesium and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) reduced autistic symptoms in 23 children out of 33, stereotyped restricted behavior in 18 children, and abnormal/delayed functioning in 17 children. It improved social interactions in 23 children and communication in 24 children.22

If you don't want to spend to much money on magnesium chloride for bath there are two interesting solutions :

Magnesium chloride bags for cattle : roughly 20% of magnesium chloride and 1 euro per kg if you buy 5 or 20 kg bags.

Nigari (what allows to transform soy milk in tofu) : roughly 20% of magnesium chloride and 5 euro per kg if you buy 1kg bags.

Here in France, my Traditional Chinese Medicine physician say, in his experience, there's only one brand which is really effective : Oligosol. 14 doses for 3€ in drugstore.

Perhaps the effectiveness is due to the fact you have to keep the liquid under the tongue for 2 mn to assist the body penetration through this way.
