The “Naughty” Skin Care Ingredient You Absolutely Must Try! [Tallow]

Very interesting. I began accruing a stockpile of astaxanthin a year ago because it came as part of a discounted package deal containing 2 other supplements I was taking. Then I read about it's antioxidant benefits, so I began taking it 3 months ago. I had never heard of any topical use or skin benefits, but a few weeks ago, I noticed my face had a healthy glow not typical for me in winter.

I've used coconut oil topically, so adding astaxanthin sounds like a great addition.
Good to hear a first-hand testimony. I'll see if I get this product to try it too.

I've read Dr. Mercola's site for a decade, and I have a lot of respect for him, even though, unfortunately, he still includes dairy and vegetables as part of a healthy diet. On the other hand, his writing seems to indicate a very sharp mind and his physical appearance seems to be the picture of health. And, to give credit where it's due, he was recommending a zero-grain diet many years before we here on the forum embraced a Paleo diet.

FWIW, my impression is that he is genuinely a good guy who just has some blind spots. I don't think he's beholding to any pharmaceutical companies because he publishes lots of articles exposing their schemes and has no advertising on his site for their products.
Yes, it really seems a good guy and very studious. And you are right. What he (and his team) disclose proves it in himself. So, although sometimes seems to mix some desinfo with true, may be due to the simple fact that not yet realized that, and not due to a bad will.
Thanks for sharing, JGeropoulas.

Fwiw, I would be careful with the source of astaxanthin. Some of it is made from algae in the Pacific Ocean. This could be a bit radioactive.

Thank you very much, 3D Student. I was also thinking of buying stevia stems, another great antioxidant. But apparently it is not so easy now, since large corporations have cornered the stock for themselves.

Very true. I bought a big bag of stevia not that long ago. I seemed to be having some sort of reaction to it, and when i checked the ingredient list i found that it contained Maltodextrin. (Like what is the point?)

Almost all stevia uses some sort of filler to dilute it since it's so potent by itself, so selecting a source takes some care. I've seen one before that uses xylitol as the filler, and if you search for '100% pure stevia' you're more likely to get the pure stuff. For instance, we have a 1 oz. container of this, which came with a tiny measuring scoop to help with the fine measurements:

A note of caution, though: because the powder is very fine it can easily be lifted into the air and put a layer of sweetness on things nearby. ;)

Thanks for starting this topic HowToBe! I like finding natural, non-toxic and cheap alternatives to the numerous skincare products out there.

A really good exfoliant I found just happens to be a cloth with microfibers in it, soaked and wrung. The dryer it is, the better it gets at scrubbing the dead skin layer, which can clog pores.

Tallow and other animal fats are great moisturizers for your face, as others have attested.

A good toner I've heard is equal parts water and apple cider vinegar. Applying it before a moisturizer helps lock in the moisture and prevent skin from drying out too much.

Has anyone else tried something similar? What have your experiences been?
