Re: The storm devastated part of the Australia

I live in the Upper North Shore of Sydney and the worst has now passed hopefully. It was my first experience in a Cat 2 cyclone and I feel very lucky that nothing serious happened to my family or property. I think about 300mm of rain fell in 48hrs, which is the worst we've had in 10 years. All my neighbour's power was cut but somehow ours stayed on :) This was due to big trees falling over the power lines. We are surrounded on a ridge with huge Gum trees so we were feeling a bit vulnerable! All low lying areas are flooded, the beaches have been eroded by 14 foot waves and there is tree carnage everywhere. We are very lucky indeed!

Re: The storm devastated part of the Australia

I'm glad to hear that you came through it unscathed, Tony.
Now for it to be a cyclone you would have to be north of the tropic of capricorn.
Notwithstanding, it was a hell of a Southerly Buster! I felt the cold winds down my way.
I saw the images of the house floating away at Dungog. A very destructive system.
It will be a big clean-up, for sure!
I mean, folk who live at Manly were saying they had never seen flooding like that in their lifetime.
None had ever seen the dam full, never mind overflowing.

Freak weather indeed- I'm on the mid-north coast just north of Newcastle, and while we got rain, it was nothing like what Sydney and the Hunter experienced. Glad to bear that you're okay Tony! And yeah MusicMan I too couldn't believe that houses were simply being washed away in Dungog - it's all a bit surreal.

Tony keep your eye on those gum trees, they can soak up a lot of water when it's wet, and then the branches start breaking off because they can't handle the weight. Don't park under them.
Stay safe!

Thanks Arwenn and Musicman. Rain is forecast for all of next week a well. I had a thought today about experiencing 4d in the force of nature. We can't see it like the wind but we experience it's affects. 4d sts could be effecting us or communicating to us with the now devistating use of what we call mother nature. Anyway it was an interesting thought.
