Just thought id share a brilliant, revitalizing evening myself, Lilyalic and Carl had today from my perspective that was so out of the blue and unexpected for all of us im sure.
Today, in the North West of England we had an extremely humid day ranging from 25-30 degrees. One of those days that you can feel the hot air fill your lungs each breath. I had arranged to go out and just do something with the sun and the heat, but soon enough early afternoon it got really overcast and a storm was expected all week - yet seemed unlikely to happen due to the stability of the weather.
The day was getting late, so i for no real reason decided to take us to the closest beach hoping to get abit of a breeze to wind down with after we had all been in work on such a humid day.
We packed our bags, and included some swimming bottoms - as the idea of some real cold water therapy enticed me. Ive been doing alot of kayaking over the past few weeks, and have grown very fond of the stress relieving and purifying effects of the ocean. So thought heck, why not, lets go for it!
The drive down took longer than expected, but now looking back, i would have drove twice as far to experience this.
Arriving at the beach, walking across the dunes was extremely pleasant and calm. The clouds where still parted somewhat, and the view of the sea just looked beautiful. We all laughed at how long it had been since we touched sand, and how difficult it was to walk in this stuff!
Soon enough we got to the tide, and pretty much kitted down and scampered in. This is where it all changed. Instantly we had turned from three normal, stressed, working day folk - with our own separate experiences through the day, into three free and united folk. We was laughing, jumping, running, swimming. We could do as we pleased, with not one other thing in mind.
Carl gave it the perfect description; Primal. We where right then, animals who had just found water. And boy did we need a wash! It felt like we was in there for a lifetime, that dream that gives a sense of nostalgia.
I truly felt like we where a pack. All in it together, for the simple joy of it. The simple why the hell not! The water was cold, but the chill in the air colder. Yet it was warming to the soul.
Me and Carl from belly deep in sprant out, and this gives such a burn to the thighs it was crazy! The tide had moved further away, so we was just in hysterics laughing at the distance we still had to run - but we new we didnt want to stop. It was just such a raw feeling that cannot be missed.
When we got back to the beach, we was jumping, running and stretching it all off to get abit of warmth and blood flowing. After this, starting to walk back, i can only describe it as that of a mild hallucinogenic experience. The cold water done something to us... Whether it gave us a slap of mild hypothermia, or it literally shuck our senses to attention i dont know, but my jaw was tense, my body was alert, more receptive and ready for anything. The scenery had all changed after this... Like some sort of sensory alteration. The clouds looked like they had another dimension to them, showing true form. The green was the greenest green, it could have been mistaken for different grass.
The air was fresher, and the overall atmosphere denser.
Climbing to the top of the dune to exit, we slowly seen a storm creeping up over where we was heading. And then thunder... Again, and again and again. Finally bringing lightning, and lashing down rain.
The thunder, having not heard it since i actually started The Work, sounded different. It sounded cleaner... More like the true form of thunder, and i couldnt put my finger on it. Until Carl described it as sounding like pure electricity. With this comment, you could actually heart it moving across the sky like a current through the clouds.
It was just surreal to hear it on such an open plane, not bouncing around city towers and buildings. One of the most natural experiences to this date for me.
Walking slowly back barefoot, in single file we near approached the car when the rain really poured. We literally screamed and shouted with excitement that it just kept going.
Smiles where on all our faces, and laughter got into the car with us as we sat and just listened to it down pour.
I just wanted to actually share how i felt about this event. I felt electrified with life. Revitalized and reborn after getting out of that water. Socially bonded and proud of all of us that we actually find solace in such a simple activity that lasts less than 2hours long, and costs a couple of £, but has such a real positive effect. I can only describe my current state as happy. Truly for what that actually should entail. The happiness that brings tears to the back of the eyes while you type, the happiness that will stick.
Thank you for letting me get that out :)
