The Living Force
Edison had a whole series of less important and not so famous invention. One of these inventions were the mechanical dolls produced in 1890, intended for children, but the children were afraid. Today there are only a few survived. The two are into the hands of collectors phonograph Joan and Robin Rolfs. Although longed to hear how these dolls are sometimes sounded, were never tried because they feared it would damage the outdated mechanism.

Well, I can see why children were afraid of them. A shrill, screaming, staticy voice would creep out most adults.

Thanks for sharing this Casper ... interesting ... well 1890 Edison created creepy automation dolls, probably to scare kids, and at the same time, just few years later Tesla did the first demonstration of AI - one radio-controlled boat :) ... this tells a lot of a a two different guys and their different mindsets, that both brought tremendous technological advancement to man, but with slightly different motivation ... :cool2:

Really creepy, haven't heard till the end :) I wonder how such inventions could be given to the child? May be just as sleeping pills? It forced them to cover themselves with blanket and shut their eyes tight

Precursor of the modern times baby dolls. They are still creepy, they seem to be liked for many. From my point of view, it just changes the quality of the sound, like phonograph (that hears like tortured music nowadays). When I was a kid, the sounded ones did not reached my country, but certainly I would want to have one, I did have the one that fed it make "poo", though.
