To Mods Question on Appropriateness of Subject For Posting

For a little over a year, I've been working with a coalition of groups in New York to ban hydro-fracking in New York State. In addition, the group I work most with has formed a committee to form a National Coalition for this purpose as well.

We have an action planned for next week which is to ask people to make phone calls to specific elected officials to urge them to ban fracking in the U.S.

Is doing such a thing appropriate for the forum?

We will be reaching out to the members of our coalitions, but it would be nice if people from the forum who live in the U.S. could call as well.

Yesterday, thiis message appeared on The Sierra Club Gas Drilling Task Force list serve - (not the sponsors of the action)

http://www.dec.ny.gov/energy/75370.html

This is notification that the final Supplementary Environmental Impact Statement has been released. The protocol is that we have 90 days to comment before the permits for drilling will be issued.

Everyone in our coalition who has experienced the impact of fracking is suffering. My coalition state is Texas, and they are suffering drought. Water is being rationed in the cities, and yet there is millions of gallons of water being used for hydro-fracking. I was told that people are paying $1,500 a month for a tank of water. And this is not to mention the amount of water that is needed to put out the fires raging in that state.

One family who had the misfortune to have a huge toxic pit dug on their land by an energy company, had the the contents of the pit analyzed, found substances such as benzene in high concentrations, and got the company to fill in the pit. But when the pit was filled, the land owner found that the soil had been mixed with huge quantities of salt so that nothing will ever grow there again. He is also worried that the salt will leach into his underground aquifer and destroy his water supply forever.

In New York State, we are facing the loss of one hundred million trees that will be cut down. I can't wrap my mind around that number.
Our food shed is slated for drilling. All the organic farms and grass fed cattle will no longer be viable. Part of the shale that will be drilled is connected to New York City water tunnels, and the concern is that they will crumble from the vibrations of the drilling.

We are all, all of us who are cursed with shale in our states either suffering, or about to suffer from this industry. Once the land is fracked, it is believed that it will never be able to be used for any other purpose ever.

So would it be all right if I posted the letter we are sending out around the 12th to all our coalition members? I can send it for preview before by personal message to one of the moderators for review.

Good for you.

No.

If individual people are interested in the situation, they can get involved in their own lives and context. You may not solicit activity for your personal mission on this forum.

One of my issues is that I try to bring different parts of my life together in ways that aren't appropriate. This is bringing up a lot of emotion in me, so I guess it's something that I really need to look at.

My Aim in rejoining the forum is to learn to perceive myself honestly and then work from there. I think what I was doing was letting everyone know what a good person I am by describing my involvement in this issue.

However it was self importance and not considering the needs of everyone else and the mission of the forum.

Hopefully, it won't happen again.

Sometimes when we do things there is a little voice in the back of our minds that reminds us of what we already know or suspect is true, but that we ignore for various reasons. By your response above, which demonstrates some self-awareness, I'm wondering if you already sort of heard that little voice and decided to just ignore it, or did it come only after the answer you received? But, more importantly, I'm wondering how you can make that little voice or understanding more recognizable to yourself? :)

I already heard the little voice, and chose to discredit it by usurping it with a wishful thinking program that has been sabotaging me my entire life.

I don't think that the little voice can coexist with the wishful thinking program. I have to make that voice stronger and give it more authority, and do the opposite with the wishful thinking program.

I would never have done this analysis without your questions .

Thank you.

In a way, though, it is clear that you were listening to that little voice because you posted about your wanting to get support for your personal project first. You showed respect for this forum and its aims and were not quick to assume that it would just be ok to post what you did somewhere else.

Yes, it's a process and a question we must all ask ourselves as much as possible, and as difficult as it may be - especially in this context.

You're welcome :) You can, if you like, internalize the questions or refine them and observe yourself as you are doing this. Make them your own in such a way that you - the greater part of you - is always listening and paying attention to that part of you that seeks to serve your identifying with something unconstructive.
