Traditional Finnish Log House Building Process

I decided to post this after listening to latest SOTT Talk.

The film shows how to put together a small house using pine logs. The Scandinavian technique of cutting and trimming the logs also makes it fairly airtight, which is of great importance in a cold climate.

I highly recommend this video for anyone interested in building their own house.
It can, IMO, be viewed without sound (soundtrack is in Finnish) and still be understood.

Impressive. Man are they superb with those axes.
:) Quite so. I figure it would take some time to earn those skills...

I had the same thoughts, in the video everything looked so easy, but in real life trees are not made of butter ;).

Indeed! In the related videos there is one of a guy giving a tour of a very basic log cabin that he made (with some youth volunteers or something) with no prior experience. Apparently it took 8 months  .

These guys look like they could do it in 5 days.

It's really inspiring to see what people can do if they develop the skills to accomplish something.
Thanks for posting these videos. Great information!

Here's one of Swedish traditional log home building. There's two sections and the first shows the making of a hand forged ax - the second half on traditional wooden lodge construction starts at about 3:40. Beautiful craftsmanship.

Wonderful craftsmanship; from forging and hewing logs to the nice joinery.

Thank you.
