Under the Dome by Stephen King

I didn't read the book, but just started watching the series on Amazon.com (in it's 3rd season). Just when I thought it was going to degenerate into predictable cliches, it ramped up the metaphysical aspects, which now have me intrigued. I don't know what Stephen King had in mind, but so far I'm seeing some rich metaphors for ideas familiar to us here on the forum. For example, is the impenetrable dome a prison imposed or a protective shield provided by the universe; while the power brokers scheme and jockey for dominance, the 2 young teens join hands and access the power of the dome surrounding them; those in authority fear the dome, but the 2 teens are curious about it, try to make contact with it and delve into discovering it's source. Of course, non-metaphorically, but typically, the military just tries to blow it up with no necessity or concern for "collateral damage". I'll write more in the Movies thread after I've watched at least the first season.

I haven't read any of the latest books by Steven after I started reading Dean R Koontz. I found Dean to be just as "good" as Steven but Dean is not so long winded when it comes to description, I.e.-" Misery".
My wife got me into reading novels after we got married by asking me to read "Phantoms"
( my reading and righting was not very good)
"Phantoms" scared me so much I couldn't read it at night! (I'm 2200pouds and 6'1" an I don't consider myself easily scared)
Such a page turner, I couldn't put it down until it was done. This was made into a movie in the early 2000's (called "The Blob") and stuck very close to the book. Have read nearly all of Deans work and most of Steven's.
Thanks for the heads up on this one, I'll take a look.
