Up, the new Pixar animated movie

Older Disney movies are filled with tragic events... Bambi, The Lion King, The Fox and the Hound, Beauty and the Beast, The Sword in the Stone <-- all have really heartbreaking scenes that affected me significantly as a child.

Is it possible for someone to relate the actual title of this film? It doesn't seem to be referred to as anything but the new Pixar animated movie, or the movie in this thread.

I live in Europe and have no idea what this hubbub is about. Has American cinema done away with film titles?

I've little doubt that the entertainment media has pulled out the big gun mind control technology... and fired it straight at the little ones.... especially after anart's take on it.

OK... Just did a scroogle and think you guys are talking about Up? After reading this thread I think I would be very reluctant to let my child (if I had a wee one) see this film... for that matter any of the stuff coming out of the Hollywood cinema mill these days. TV too... especially the animated programming.

Off to imdb.com to get up to cultural speed.

 Rabelais, did you happen to read the title of the thread? ;)

I think good points have been made about how emotionally traumatic most children's movies are (especially Disney). Personally, I think that's Evil - but I've been told I'm a little odd.

Hi everyone, this movie left me feeling very perplexed when I first saw it because it just seemed such a departure from the usual animated movie. I couldn't get a handle on it. Why did it have such emotionally wrenching scenes/themes in it if it was essentially a kids movie? In the last couple of days I saw it on dvd at my sisters' place.

I am going out on a limb here but I am coming to think it is a film in the vein of the "Wizard of Oz". A film designed to, through symbolism, show reality complete with psychopaths, organic portals, feminine principle, other dimensions and the struggle of souled humanity. I realise this may be contentious but I am interested in others opinion. Cheers
