on CBC in the day 6 section (CBC.ca/day6) you should be able to stream this show. I know day 6 starts at 10:00 (-5 GMT) but I don't know when this segment is airing. should be interesting, a precis is below.

Imagine studying psychopaths for years, then discovering that you are one. Such is the story of Dr. James Fallon, a neuroscientist who studies how genetic and environmental factors affect the brain. A few years ago Dr. Fallon made an unintentional discovery: his own brain fits an "obviously pathological" profile. We have one copy of Dr. Fallon's memoir, The Psychopath Inside, to give away. Email day 6 @ cbc dot ca with the subject line "PSYCHOPATH" and your mailing address for your chance to win.

I won't be able to listen as I'll be away, but will listen on my return.

There's an article about the author up on SOTT:

http://www.sott.net/article/269328-The-neuroscientist-who-discovered-he-was-a-psychopath

thanks!
I actually remember reading that. It's interesting that our beliefs about psychopaths if they are black and white lead us to comments like that made after that article. We humans tend to scapegoat and witchhunt and so project onto others. I am not saying psychopaths are not a problem, they obviously are! :( But maybe there exists a continuum whereby psychopaths that are able to experience love at critical moments of life (i.e. bonding at birth) have chemical changes which ameliorate the psychopathy? I wonder if his parents had known if they could have provided more targeted assistance to help him. and I wonder if Nora Gedgaudas neural feedback would help in such cases?
It will be interesting to hear the speech of self confessed (possible) psychopath.

There is also the possibility of characteropathy where an individual isn't necessarily a psychopath but rather born with an ability for feeling and even empathising, and whose brain chemistry differs, oftentimes significantly, from that of a regular human being. In some cases characteropathy in an individual is so severe that his traits and behaviours will closely resemble those of a psychopath.

Lobaczewsky's "Political ponerology" and George Simon's "Character disturbance" are excellent books on that subject. More about the works of these two authors and researchers here: http://cassiopaea.org/2012/02/08/political-ponerology-a-science-on-the-nature-of-evil-adjusted-for-political-purposes/ and http://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php/topic,26987.0.html

There is a more recent one hosted by Jian Ghomeshi on CBC's "Q": Tuesday, December 10, 2013

James Fallon tells Jian he has never "snapped" - but doesn't rule it out as a possibility.

James Fallon -- an award winning neuroscientist at the University of California, Irvine -- was flipping through the brain scans of family members for an Alzheimer's study when he made an alarming discovery: one of them had all the tell-tale markers of a psychopathic mind.

Fallon soon discovered that the aberrant brain in his family was his own.

Jian speaks to Fallon about how he has curbed his psychopathic tendencies, what he's learned about his family's past, and why (despite the possible stigma and rejection) he decided to open up about the way he's wired.

The neuroscientist has written a book about this personally-relevant area of research: The Psychopath Inside: A Neuroscientist's Personal Journey into the Dark Side of the Brain.

Listening in on how he describes being at home with his family - he is described as not being present; he can't connect, and how he has never needed for money, home, sex etc. and what would happen if it was all removed; well he does not know if he would not snap. He discusses some of his traits being useful, with references to Mandela, Mother Teresa and Gandhi (reminded me of Kevin Dutton's thinking) and superficially, what he does in life, he could be considered as being a "swell guy", yet he acknowledges the darker sides to his thinking, however, he just does not act on them.
